    The CEOS Data Cube Portal: A User-Friendly, Open Source Software Solution for the Distribution, Exploration, Analysis, and Visualization of Analysis Ready Data

    There is an urgent need to increase the capacity of developing countries to take part in the study and monitoring of their environments through remote sensing and space-based Earth observation technologies. The Open Data Cube (ODC) provides a mechanism for efficient storage and a powerful framework for processing and analyzing satellite data. While this is ideal for scientific research, the expansive feature space can also be daunting for end-users and decision-makers who simply require a solution which provides easy exploration, analysis, and visualization of Analysis Ready Data (ARD). Utilizing innovative web-design and a modular architecture, the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) has created a web-based user interface (UI) which harnesses the power of the ODC yet provides a simple and familiar user experience: the CEOS Data Cube (CDC). This paper presents an overview of the CDC architecture and the salient features of the UI. In order to provide adaptability, flexibility, scalability, and robustness, we leverage widely-adopted and well-supported technologies such as the Django web framework and the AWS Cloud platform. The fully-customizable source code of the UI is available at our public repository. Interested parties can download the source and build their own UIs. The UI empowers users by providing features that assist with streamlining data preparation, data processing, data visualization, and sub-setting ARD products in order to achieve a wide variety of Earth imaging objectives through an easy to use web interface

    Portal Hypertension, Variceal Bleeding, and High Output Cardiac Failure Secondary to an Intrahepatic Arterioportal Fistula

    Intrahepatic arterioportal fistulas (APF) are uncommon complications following hepatic trauma. Large fistulas can result in portal hypertension and cardiovascular compromise. A 46-year-old patient is described who presented with portal hypertension, variceal bleeding, and high output cardiac failure due to a large intrahepatic APF. Surgical closure of the APF by hepatic resection successfully resolved the portal hypertension, prevented further variceal hemorrhage, and restored normal cardiovascular function

    The Open Data Cube (ODC) initiative, with support from the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) System Engineering Office (SEO) has developed a state-of-the-art suite of software tools and products to facilitate the analysis of Earth Observation data. This paper presents a short summary and cost analysis of our experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host one such software product, the CEOS Data Cube (CDC) web-based User Interface (UI).     Factors influencing the choice of shared bicycles and shared electric bikes in Beijing

    AbstractChina leads the world in both public bikeshare and private electric bike (e-bike) growth. Current trajectories indicate the viability of deploying large-scale shared e-bike (e-bikeshare) systems in China. We employ a stated preference survey and multinomial logit to model the factors influencing the choice to switch from an existing transportation mode to bikeshare or e-bikeshare in Beijing. Demand is influenced by distinct sets of factors: the bikeshare choice is most sensitive to measures of effort and comfort while the e-bikeshare choice is more sensitive to user heterogeneities. Bikeshare demand is strongly negatively impacted by trip distance, temperature, precipitation, and poor air quality. User demographics however do not factor strongly on the bikeshare choice, indicating the mode will draw users from across the social spectrum. The e-bikeshare choice is much more tolerant of trip distance, high temperatures and poor air quality, though precipitation is also a highly negative factor. User demographics do play a significant role in e-bikeshare demand. Analysis of impact to the existing transportation system finds that both bikeshare and e-bikeshare will tend to draw users away from the “unsheltered modes”, walk, bike, and e-bike. Although it is unclear if shared bikes are an attractive “first-and-last-mile solution”, it is clear that e-bikeshare is attractive as a bus replacement

    Development of a UAV track injection and imagery presentation system

    The Navy is increasingly using advanced Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) to perform critical missions. UAVs have grown in capability, while the Navy's underlying Command and Control structure has changed little to take advantage of the advances in technology. While UAVs are rapidly developing the potential to be effective combat tools, learning how to utilize this potential in an integrated Command and Control environment is hampered by a lack of UAV connectivity. This thesis develops a methodology for using UAV telemetry data packets to inject tracks of the UAV into a Command and Control system such as the Global Command and Control System (GCCS), and provide near-real-time imagery delivery from the UAV to tactical end users via a network such as the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET). Focus is on the development of a proof-of-concept system utilizing the Naval Postgraduate School's Systems Technology Battle Lab (STBL) and the Center for interdisciplinary Remotely- Piloted Aircraft Studies (CIRPAS) Altus UAV.     Multi-study analysis of learning culture, human capital and operational performance in supply chain management: The moderating role of workforce level

    Purpose – The purpose of this study is to empirically evaluate the relationship between learning culture, workforce level, human capital and operational performance in two diverse supply chain populations, aircraft maintenance and logistics readiness. Design/methodology/approach – Drawing upon competence-based view of the firm and human capital theory, this paper analyzes data from two studies. Findings – The results provide support for the hypothesized model. Workforce level moderates the relationship between learning culture and human capital, and human capital partially mediates the relationship between learning culture and operational performance. Research limitations/implications – The findings have implications for behavioral supply chain management research and implications for educating and training the supply chain management workforce. While the populations represent a diverse set of logistics functions and responsibilities, the participants are all military members, which may limit generalizability. Practical implications – This study should help leaders understand the importance of learning culture and the perceived differences in its effect on human capital based upon workforce level. Originality/value – This research is among the first to investigate the role of workforce level and answers a multitude of calls for research into the human side of supply chain management
