    Magnetocaloric effect of monovalent K doped manganites Pr0.6Sr0.4−xKxMnO3 (x=0 to 0.2)

    peer reviewedMagnetic and magnetocaloric properties are reported for polycrystalline monovalent potassium doped manganites Pr0.6Sr0.4−xKxMnO3 (x=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2) crystallized in orthorhombic structure with Pnma space group. The increasing K content shifts the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition temperature from 310 K for x=0 to 269 K for x=0.2. The magnetic entropy change under magnetic field variation of 2 T is found to be 1.95, 3.09, 2.89, 3.05 and 3.2 J/kgK for x varying from 0 to 0.2, respectively. The highest relative cooling power of 102 J/kg is observed for the undoped sample. The sensitivity of magnetic entropy change to magnetic field is estimated by a local N(T) exponent exhibiting the characteristic temperature variation. Phenomenological universal curves of entropy change and Arrott plots confirm the second order phase transition

    On the role of trust types and levels on inventory replenishment decision

    Using a participatory simulation platform, this paper investigates the inventory replenishment decisions made under different trust categories. Depending on the type of trust (trust in supplier versus trust in customer) and level of trust (high versus low), each decision is categorized and analyzed. We investigate how the inventory manager`s ordering behavior varies regarding their type and level of trust. This study provides evidence for the role of trust in inventory replenishment decision. The findings on the influence of trust on inventory decision indicators provide a new perspective in respect to the supply chain management literature, which generally postulates a positive influence of trust on supply chain stability and uncertainty reduction

    Spondylodiscite tuberculeuse : 12 ans d'expérience dans un centre hospitalier en Tunisie

    Objectifs : Décrire les particularités épidémiologiques, cliniques et paracliniques des spondylodiscites tuberculeuses et déterminer les facteurs prédictifs d’une évolution défavorable. Patients et Méthode: Etude rétrospective sur une période de 12 ans. Le diagnostic a été porté sur des preuves bactériologiques, anatomopathologiques ou sur un faisceau d’arguments. Résultats : Il s’agissait de 49 patients (26F/23H), âgés en moyenne de 51,84 ans. Le délai moyen de diagnostic était de 6,65 mois. Un facteur prédisposant à l’infection a été relevé chez 38,7% des patients. L’étage lombaire était le plus touché (67,3%). L’imagerie par résonnance magnétique était pathologique dans tous les cas où elle a été effectuée. Le diagnostic de certitude a été porté dans 9 cas sur une preuve histologique. La ponction biopsie disco-vertébrale a permis de confirmer le diagnostic dans 6/36 cas. Tous les patients ont reçu un traitement anti-tuberculeux d’une durée moyenne de 13,59 mois associé à un geste interventionnel dans 8 cas. L’évolution était favorable dans 84,2% des cas. Nous avons identifiés quatre facteurs prédictifs d’une évolution défavorable: une hyperleucocytose initiale ≥11500 éléments/mm3 (p=0,031), la présence d’abcès ou de collection à l’imagerie (p=0,018); un tassement vertébral à l’IRM (p=0,018) et l’existence de déformation osseuse avant correction chirurgicale (p<0,001). Conclusion: La spondylodiscite tuberculeuse devrait être suspectée devant toute rachialgie inflammatoire. Une prise en charge précoce est la clé pour éviter les complications neurologiques et ostéo-articulaires

    ICT-based solution approach for collaborative delivery of customised products

Growing interest on business collaboration motivates todays industries, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to establish and manage dynamic and non-hierarchical business networks to respond to market opportunities with added business benefits. This business environment requires concurrent work and real-time information sharing between key business partners in order to design and develop customised products. The use of traditional communication media such as e-mail, phone and fax is not satisfactory to get real-time information and is time-consuming and most often ineffective. In such environments, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT)/Web-based technology supports real-time information sharing among networked SMEs for the collaborative design and manufacturing of customised products. This study proposes an innovative ICT platform supporting SMEs collaboration, through Web and the Internet of Things technologies, which follows the Net-Challenge conceptual approach and methodological guidelines for SMEs to form and operate virtual organisations for the collaborative development and delivery of customised products. The ICT Platform was assessed in three different industry domains, namely the textile and apparel, the footwear and the machine tools, respectively. This ICT solution promotes collaboration, with substantial advantages for SMEs including the reduction of costs and delivery time and improvement of the innovation potential

    Transformation of UML Activity Diagram for Enhanced Reasoning

    IT industry has adopted the unified modelling language activity diagram (UML-AD) as a de facto standard. UML AD facilitates modellers to graphically represent and document business processes to show the flow of activities and behaviour of a system. However, UML AD has many drawbacks such as lack of formal semantics i.e. ontology used for the constructs based on intuition, that vaguely describes processes and no provision for verifiability. Petri Net (PN) has been around for decades and used to model the workflow systems but PNs and its variants are too complex for business process modellers with no prior experience. A logical foundation is desirable to construct a business process with a precision that facilitates in transforming UML AD into a formal mechanism supported by verifiability capabilities for enhanced reasoning. Therefore, in this paper, we will provide a framework that will provide formal definitions for UML AD core terms and constructs used for modelling, and subsequently transform them to formal representation called point graph(PG). This will provide an insight into UML AD and will improve the overall functionality required from a modelling tool.     Towards an Intelligent Tutor for Mathematical Proofs

    Computer-supported learning is an increasingly important form of study since it allows for independent learning and individualized instruction. In this paper, we discuss a novel approach to developing an intelligent tutoring system for teaching textbook-style mathematical proofs. We characterize the particularities of the domain and discuss common ITS design models. Our approach is motivated by phenomena found in a corpus of tutorial dialogs that were collected in a Wizard-of-Oz experiment. We show how an intelligent tutor for textbook-style mathematical proofs can be built on top of an adapted assertion-level proof assistant by reusing representations and proof search strategies originally developed for automated and interactive theorem proving. The resulting prototype was successfully evaluated on a corpus of tutorial dialogs and yields good results.Comment: In Proceedings THedu'11, arXiv:1202.453

    Equilibrium analysis in multi-echelon supply chain with multi-dimensional utilities of inertial players

    In a supply chain, the importance of information elicitation from the supply chain players is vital to design supply chain network. The rationality and self-centredness of these players causes the information asymmetry in the supply chain and thus situation of conflict and non-participation of the players in the network design process. In such situations, it is required to analyse the supply chain players’ behaviour in order to explore potential for coordination through incentives. In this paper, a novel approach of social utility analysis is proposed to elicit the information for supply chain coordination among the supply chain players in a dyadic relationship – supplier and buyer. In principal, we consider a monopsony situation where buyer is a dominant player. With the objective of maximizing the social utility, efforts have been made to value behavioural issues in supply chain. On the other hand, the reluctance of player due to the information asymmetry is measured in the form of inertia – an offset to the supply chain profit. The suppliers’ behaviour is analysed with three distinct level of risk for two types of the product in procurement process. The useful insight from this paper is in supplier selection process where the reluctance of supplier offsets supply chain profit. The paper provides recommendations to supply chain managers for efficient decision-making ability in supplier selection process

    Fit between humanitarian professionals and project requirements: hybrid group decision procedure to reduce uncertainty in decision-making

    Choosing the right professional that has to meet indeterminate requirements is a critical aspect in humanitarian development and implementation projects. This paper proposes a hybrid evaluation methodology for some non-governmental organizations enabling them to select the most competent expert who can properly and adequately develop and implement humanitarian projects. This methodology accommodates various stakeholders’ perspectives in satisfying the unique requirements of humanitarian projects that are capable of handling a range of uncertain issues from both stakeholders and project requirements. The criteria weights are calculated using a two-step multi-criteria decision-making method: (1) Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process for the evaluation of the decision maker weights coupled with (2) Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to rank the alternatives which provide the ability to take into account both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. Sensitivity analysis have been developed and discussed by means of a real case of expert selection problem for a non-profit organisation. The results show that the approach allows a decrease in the uncertainty associated with decision-making, which proves that the approach provides robust solutions in terms of sensitivity analysis

    International audienceThe effects of partial substitution of praseodymium by erbium on the structural, magnetic, and magnetocaloric properties of Pr0.6−xErxSr0.4MnO3 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2) powder samples have been studied. Our polycrystalline compounds were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction at high temperature. Rietveld refinement of the X-ray diffraction patterns using Fullprof program shows that all our samples are single phase and crystallize in the orthorhombic structure with the Pnma space group. The unit cell volume decreased with increasing the Er amount. Magnetic measurements show that all our samples exhibit a paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition with decreasing temperature. The Curie temperature TC shifts to lower values with increasing Er content. From the magnetization isotherms at different temperatures, magnetic entropy changes SM and relative cooling power RCP havebeen evaluated. The maximum of the magnetic entropy changes for the Pr0.45Er0.15Sr0.4MnO3 sample is found to be | delta Smax M | = 2.66 J kg−1 K−1 under a magnetic applied field change of 2 T
