ARTEMIS: Real-Time Detection and Automatic Mitigation for BGP Prefix Hijacking

Prefix hijacking is a common phenomenon in the Internet that often causes routing problems and economic losses. In this demo, we propose ARTEMIS, a tool that enables network administrators to detect and mitigate prefix hijacking incidents, against their own prefixes. ARTEMIS is based on the real-time monitoring of BGP data in the Internet, and software-defined networking (SDN) principles, and can completely mitigate a prefix hijacking within a few minutes (e.g., 5-6 mins in our experiments) after it has been launched

The oxytocin analogue carbetocin prevents emotional impairment and stress-induced reinstatement of opioid-seeking in morphine-abstinent mice.

The main challenge in treating opioid addicts is to maintain abstinence due to the affective consequences associated with withdrawal which may trigger relapse. Emerging evidence suggests a role of the neurohypophysial peptide oxytocin (OT) in the modulation of mood disorders as well as drug addiction. However, its involvement in the emotional consequences of drug abstinence remains unclear. We investigated the effect of 7-day opioid abstinence on the oxytocinergic system and assessed the effect of the OT analogue carbetocin (CBT) on the emotional consequences of opioid abstinence, as well as relapse. Male C57BL/6J mice were treated with a chronic escalating-dose morphine regimen (20-100 mg/kg/day, i.p.). Seven days withdrawal from this administration paradigm induced a decrease of hypothalamic OT levels and a concomitant increase of oxytocin receptor (OTR) binding in the lateral septum and amygdala. Although no physical withdrawal symptoms or alterations in the plasma corticosterone levels were observed after 7 days of abstinence, mice exhibited increased anxiety-like and depressive-like behaviors and impaired sociability. CBT (6.4 mg/kg, i.p.) attenuated the observed negative emotional consequences of opioid withdrawal. Furthermore, in the conditioned place preference paradigm with 10 mg/kg morphine conditioning, CBT (6.4 mg/kg, i.p.) was able to prevent the stress-induced reinstatement to morphine-seeking following extinction. Overall, our results suggest that alterations of the oxytocinergic system contribute to the mechanisms underlying anxiety, depression, and social deficits observed during opioid abstinence. This study also highlights the oxytocinergic system as a target for developing pharmacotherapy for the treatment of emotional impairment associated with abstinence and thereby prevention of relapse

Production design in 3D computer animation: multipurpose and polymorphic stages for efficient production frameworks

The potential to enhance production efficiency in computer animated films was explored holistically by designing multipurpose stages for two films. Certain cases demonstrate static stages with stationary scenic elements that are laid out according to ground plans with multiple acting spaces which share a common background theme. The multiple case study also deals with dynamic stage elements which enable differentiating the mise-en-scène for varied shot compositions. Specific object repositioning systems enable managing a limited number of scenic elements in order to increase the usefulness of stages. Reusable objects that internally comprise of modular elements are shown for their ability to reappear reassembled and differentiated at different moments during a sequence. Productivity advantages deriving from reusable stage objects include reduced modelling workload, and limited computational loads due to the restricted amount of stage geometry. Computational optimisations facilitate working with an economical technical infrastructure as they enable reducing latencies deriving from the execution of digital processes. Making films with a reduced number of stages enables working with a limited number of project files and with a less fragmented workflow. A stages that enables managing multiple scenes on a lengthy animation timeline can provide a centralised overview of production progress. The presented stage design rationales are not restricted to specific visual themes or styles as their operation does not rely on surface colours. For example, systems demonstrated within the salt lake stage are most likely applicable in an alternative arctic environment theme with similarly shaped geological features. Moreover, the presented multipurpose stages enabled making scenes that feature types of travelling actions commonly found in animated films such as running, driving, and flying. The outcomes guide designers through organisational and creative options that enable realising respectable computer animated films with optimal use of production resources

Expression of proteins related with endoplasmic reticulum stress in primary breast adenocarcinomas

ERp29 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein that facilitates the transport of the secretory proteins in the early secretory pathway. Its expression has been detected at varying levels in virtually every tissue tested and particularly in the professional secretory cells. Here we evaluated the expression of ERp29 in the resting and lactating mammary glands of mice as well as in a bank of human primary breast tumors. ERp29 was readily detected in the mammary epithelial cells during lactation while in virgins it was found below the detection limits. Furthermore, ERp29 was expressed in the six (6) out of twenty nine (29) primary human adenocarcinomas (21%) with the higher degree of differentiation classified as grade I and II tumors. Our findings imply a role for the ER folding/secretory assistants and ERp29 in particular in the mammary gland development and carcinogenesis.Εξετάσαμε την έκφραση της πρωτεΐνης ERp29, που σχετίζεται με το στρες του ενδοπλασματικού δικτύου και την έκκριση πρωτεϊνών, στο επιθήλιο του μαστού πειραματόζωων (επίμυων) κατά τα διάφορα στάδια διαφοροποίησής του, και σε ανθρώπινους όγκους του μαστού.
