    On quasianalytic local rings

    This expository article is devoted to the local theory of ultradifferentiable classes of functions, with a special emphasis on the quasianalytic case. Although quasianalytic classes are well-known in harmonic analysis since several decades, their study from the viewpoint of differential analysis and analytic geometry has begun much more recently and, to some extent, has earned them a new interest. Therefore, we focus on contemporary questions closely related to topics in local algebra. We study, in particular, Weierstrass division problems and the role of hyperbolicity, together with properties of ideals of quasianalytic germs. Incidentally, we also present a simplified proof of Carleman's theorem on the non-surjectivity of the Borel map in the quasianalytic case.Comment: Final Manuscrip

    Observation of channeling for 6500 GeV/c protons in the crystal assisted collimation setup for LHC

    Two high-accuracy goniometers equipped with two bent silicon crystals were installed in the betatron cleaning insertion of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during its long shutdown. First beam tests were recently performed at the LHC with 450 GeV/c and 6500 GeV/c stored proton beams to investigate the feasibility of beam halo collimation assisted by bent crystals. For the first time channeling of 6500 GeV/c protons was observed in a particle accelerator. A strong reduction of beam losses due to nuclear inelastic interactions in the aligned crystal in comparison with its amorphous orientation was detected. The loss reduction value was about 24. Thus, the results show that deflection of particles by a bent crystal due to channeling is effective for this record particle energy.peer-reviewe

    The LHCb upgrade I

    The LHCb upgrade represents a major change of the experiment. The detectors have been almost completely renewed to allow running at an instantaneous luminosity five times larger than that of the previous running periods. Readout of all detectors into an all-software trigger is central to the new design, facilitating the reconstruction of events at the maximum LHC interaction rate, and their selection in real time. The experiment's tracking system has been completely upgraded with a new pixel vertex detector, a silicon tracker upstream of the dipole magnet and three scintillating fibre tracking stations downstream of the magnet. The whole photon detection system of the RICH detectors has been renewed and the readout electronics of the calorimeter and muon systems have been fully overhauled. The first stage of the all-software trigger is implemented on a GPU farm. The output of the trigger provides a combination of totally reconstructed physics objects, such as tracks and vertices, ready for final analysis, and of entire events which need further offline reprocessing. This scheme required a complete revision of the computing model and rewriting of the experiment's software

    Nous avons étudié le vieillissement thermique de polypyrrole (PPy) synthétisé à l'aide de tosylate ou de chlorure ferrique. Le PPy synthétisé à l'aide du tosylate ferrique est plus conducteur que celui synthétisé à l'aide du chlorure ferrique. Les deux polymères ont un comportement identique pour des traitements à 120°C, 140°C et 180°C. La dégradation du polypyrrole suit, en atmosphère oxydante, une cinétique du premier ordre après une période de stabilisation régie par la diffusion de l'oxygène au sein du matériau

    The Synchronization System of the Thomx Accelerator

    International audienceThe ThomX compact light source uses a 50 MeV ring to produce X-rays by Compton scattering. For historical reasons the linac and the ring could not operate at harmonic frequencies of each other. A heterodyne synchronization system has been designed for this accelerator. This synchronization is based on mixing the two RF frequencies to produce an heterodyne trigger signal and that is then distributed to the users. Bench tests of the system has demonstrated a jitter of less than 2 ps. We describe here this synchronization system

    Experimental Results for Multiphoton Nonlinear Photoemission Processes on Phil Test Line

    International audienceOne of the prerequisites for the next generation high luminosity light sources is the availability of the short electron bunches. It also has several applications in other domains, including medical diagnostics and high-resolution imaging. In principle, using photoelectric effect a short electron bunch can initially be generated by illuminating a photocathode with an ultra-short light pulse of appropriate wavelength. Strong EM fields from a RF gun or similar accelerating structures, synchronized with the incoming laser pulses, are then used to accelerate these electron bunches initially up to an energy of tens of MeV. We present our preliminary results on the experimental investigation of two-photon nonlinear photoemission processes for the generation of picosecond, low-charge electron bunches conducted at PHIL photoinjector facility. A comparison of the emission efficiency and bunch characteristics with the single photon emission process is also made

    Short Bunch Experiment at EXALT Facility

    International audienceNowdays, different applications required short bunches, with low energy spread and low emittances. On EXALT facility, we perform an experiment with a short (few100 femtosecond) laser pulse on a photocathode in a 3 GHz RF gun. We perform the measurement of the single photon emission process with a copper cathode. We show that the longitudinal photoinjector model via transfer matrix is suitable for the reconstruction of the bunch duration even in short pulse mode with an increased accurracy charge below 20 pC. We clearly measure the parabolic profile in the energy spectrum resulting from blow out phenomena at the cathode due to strong space charge forces. Measurements are also compared with the Astra simulations
