Modelling the Effects of Oil Prices on Global Fertilizer Prices and Volatility
The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of crude oil price on global fertilizer prices in both the mean and volatility. The endogenous structural breakpoint unit root test, ARDL model, and alternative volatility models, including GARCH, EGARCH, and GJR models, are used to investigate the relationship between crude oil price and six global fertilizer prices. The empirical results from ARDL show that most fertilizer prices are significantly affected by the crude oil price while the volatility of global fertilizer prices and crude oil price from March to December 2008 are higher than in other periods
RGO-CoO-Ni(OH)2 as an electrode material of supercapacitor
A composite film containing reduced graphene oxide (RGO), CoO and Ni(OHJ2 has been prepared from CO(N03)2.6H20 and 1 Ji(N03h6H20 with its Co:Ni ratio of 2:1 using simple
electrodeposition technique. The effect of scan rate on the electrode film is highlighted. Changes in cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves and thus morphologies of the electrode film after CV test are identified. The electrode film exhibits specific capacitance of 558 F g-l at 5 mV sI in 1M KOH. However, the cycling Stability of the electrode film over 1000 cycles is low and need to be improved further. The morphology of the electrode film is demonstrated using
field emission scanning electron rmcrosope (FESEM)
Theory of coherent acoustic phonons in InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells
A microscopic theory for the generation and propagation of coherent LA
phonons in pseudomorphically strained wurzite (0001) InGaN/GaN multi-quantum
well (MQW) p-i-n diodes is presented. The generation of coherent LA phonons is
driven by photoexcitation of electron-hole pairs by an ultrafast Gaussian pump
laser and is treated theoretically using the density matrix formalism. We use
realistic wurzite bandstructures taking valence-band mixing and strain-induced
piezo- electric fields into account. In addition, the many-body Coulomb
ineraction is treated in the screened time-dependent Hartree-Fock
approximation. We find that under typical experimental conditions, our
microscopic theory can be simplified and mapped onto a loaded string problem
which can be easily solved.Comment: 20 pages, 17 figure
Assessment techniques, database design and software facilities for thermodynamics and diffusion
The purpose of this article is to give a set of recommendations to producers of assessed thermodynamic data, who may be involved in either the critical evaluation of limited chemical systems or the creation and dissemination of larger thermodynamic databases. Also, it is hoped that reviewers and editors of scientific publications in this field will find some of the information useful. Good practice in the assessment process is essential, particularly as datasets from many different sources may be combined together into a single database. With this in mind, we highlight some problems that can arise during the assessment process and we propose a quality assurance procedure. It is worth mentioning at this point, that the provision of reliable assessed thermodynamic data relies heavily on the availability of high quality experimental information. The different software packages for thermodynamics and diffusion are described here only briefly
Fine structure of excitons in CuO
Three experimental observations on 1s-excitons in CuO are not consistent
with the picture of the exciton as a simple hydrogenic bound state: the
energies of the 1s-excitons deviate from the Rydberg formula, the total exciton
mass exceeds the sum of the electron and hole effective masses, and the
triplet-state excitons lie above the singlet. Incorporating the band structure
of the material, we calculate the corrections to this simple picture arising
from the fact that the exciton Bohr radius is comparable to the lattice
constant. By means of a self-consistent variational calculation of the total
exciton mass as well as the ground-state energy of the singlet and the
triplet-state excitons, we find excellent agreement with experiment.Comment: Revised abstract; 10 pages, revtex, 3 figures available from G.

Resolution of dark matter problem in f(T) gravity
In this paper, we attempt to resolve the dark matter problem in f(T) gravity.
Specifically, from our model we successfully obtain the flat rotation curves of
galaxies containing dark matter. Further, we obtain the density profile of dark
matter in galaxies. Comparison of our analytical results shows that our
torsion-based toy model for dark matter is in good agreement with empirical
data-based models. It shows that we can address the dark matter as an effect of
torsion of the space.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
A Four-Gene Signature from NCI-60 Cell Line for Survival Prediction in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Purpose: Metastasis is the main cause of mortality in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Genes that can discriminate the invasion ability of cancer cells may become useful candidates for clinical outcome prediction. We identify invasion-associated genes through computational and laboratorial approach that supported this idea in NSCLC. Experimental Design: We first conducted invasion assay to characterize the invasion abilities of NCI-60 lung cancer cell lines. We then systematically exploited NCI-60 microarray databases to identify invasion-associated genes that showed differential expression between the high and the low invasion cell line groups. Furthermore, using the microarray data of Duke lung cancer cohort (GSE 3141), invasion-associated genes with good survival prediction potentials were obtained. Finally, we validated the findings by conducting quantitative PCR assay on an in-house collected patient group (n = 69) and by using microarray data from two public western cohorts (n = 257 and 186). Results: The invasion-associated four-gene signature (ANKRD49, LPHN1, RABAC1, and EGLN2) had significant prediction in three validation cohorts (P = 0.0184, 0.002, and 0.017, log-rank test). Moreover, we showed that four-gene signature was an independent prognostic factor (hazard ratio, 2.354, 1.480, and 1.670; P = 0.028, 0.014, and 0.033), independent of other clinical covariates, such as age, gender, and stage. Conclusion: The invasion-associated four-gene signature derived from NCI-60 lung cancer cell lines had good survival prediction power for NSCLC patients. (Clin Cancer Res 2009;15(23):7309-15
Constraints on the Nucleon Strange Form Factors at Q^2 ~ 0.1 GeV^2
We report the most precise measurement to date of a parity-violating
asymmetry in elastic electron-proton scattering. The measurement was carried
out with a beam energy of 3.03 GeV and a scattering angle =6
degrees, with the result A_PV = -1.14 +/- 0.24 (stat) +/- 0.06 (syst) parts per
million. From this we extract, at Q^2 = 0.099 GeV^2, the strange form factor
combination G_E^s + 0.080 G_M^s = 0.030 +/- 0.025 (stat) +/- 0.006 (syst) +/-
0.012 (FF) where the first two errors are experimental and the last error is
due to the uncertainty in the neutron electromagnetic form factor. This result
significantly improves current knowledge of G_E^s and G_M^s at Q^2 ~0.1 GeV^2.
A consistent picture emerges when several measurements at about the same Q^2
value are combined: G_E^s is consistent with zero while G_M^s prefers positive
values though G_E^s=G_M^s=0 is compatible with the data at 95% C.L.Comment: minor wording changes for clarity, updated references, dropped one

Virtual Compton Scattering and Neutral Pion Electroproduction in the Resonance Region up to the Deep Inelastic Region at Backward Angles
We have made the first measurements of the virtual Compton scattering (VCS)
process via the H exclusive reaction in the nucleon resonance
region, at backward angles. Results are presented for the -dependence at
fixed GeV, and for the -dependence at fixed near 1.5 GeV.
The VCS data show resonant structures in the first and second resonance
regions. The observed -dependence is smooth. The measured ratio of
H to H cross sections emphasizes the different
sensitivity of these two reactions to the various nucleon resonances. Finally,
when compared to Real Compton Scattering (RCS) at high energy and large angles,
our VCS data at the highest (1.8-1.9 GeV) show a striking -
independence, which may suggest a transition to a perturbative scattering
mechanism at the quark level.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures. To appear in Phys.Rev.
