PARAMETRIC ANALYSIS OF A GRINDING PROCESS USING THE ROUGH SETS THEORY

    Get PDF
With continuous automation of the manufacturing industries and the development of advanced data acquisition systems, a huge volume of manufacturing-related data is now available which can be effectively mined to extract valuable knowledge and unfold the hidden patterns. In this paper, a data mining tool, in the form of the rough sets theory, is applied to a grinding process to investigate the effects of its various input parameters on the responses. Rotational speed of the grinding wheel, depth of cut and type of the cutting fluid are grinding parameters, and average surface roughness, amplitude of vibration and grinding ratio are the responses. The best parametric settings of the grinding parameters are also derived to control the quality characteristics of the ground components. The developed decision rules are quite easy to understand and can truly predict the response values at varying combinations of the considered grinding parameters

Hydrogels can be fabricated and designed to exert direct control over stem cells\u27 adhesion and differentiation. In this study, we have investigated the use of polydopamine (pDA)-treatment as a binding platform for bioactive compounds to create a versatile gelatin-alginate (Gel-Alg) hydrogel for tissue engineering applications. Precisely, pDA was used to modify the surface properties of the hydrogel and better control the adhesion and osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs). pDA enabled the adsorption of different types of bioactive molecules, including a model osteoinductive drug (dexamethasone) as well as a model pro-angiogenic peptide (QK). The pDA treatment efficiently retained the drug and the peptide compared to the untreated hydrogel and proved to be effective in controlling the morphology, cell area, and osteogenic differentiation of hASCs. Overall, the findings of this study confirm the efficacy of pDA treatment as a valuable strategy to modulate the biological properties of biocompatible Gel-Alg hydrogels and further extend their value in regenerative medicine

Reconstruction of Human Faces from Its Eigenfaces

Eigenface or Principal Components Analysis (PCA) methods have demonstrated their success in face recognition, detection and tracking. In this paper we have used this concept to reconstruct or represent a face as a linear combination of a set of basis images. The basis images are nothing but the eigenfaces. The idea is similar to represent a signal in the form of a linear combination of complex sinusoids called the Fourier Series. The main advantage is that the number of eigenfaces required is less than the number of face images in the database. Selection of number of eigefaces is important here. Here we investigate what is the number of minimum eigenface that is required for faithful production of a face image

    A Brief Study To Cloud

Cloud Computing is a versatile technology that can support a broad-spectrum of applications. The low cost of cloud computing and its dynamic scaling renders it an innovation driver for small companies, particularly in the developing world. Cloud deployed enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management applications (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM) applications, medical applications and mobile applications have potential to reach millions of users. In this paper, we explore the different concepts involved in cloud computing. Leveraging our experiences on various clouds, we examine clouds from technical, and service aspects. We highlight some of the opportunities in cloud computing, underlining the importance of clouds and showing why that technology must succeed. Finally, we discuss some of the issues that this area should deal with

A Modified Encryption Technique using Playfair Cipher 10 by 9 Matrix with Six Iteration Steps

One of the well-known digraph substitution cipher is the Playfair Cipher. It secures information mathematically by mangling message with key. The privacy of intended sender and receiver information is protected from eavesdropper. However the original 5 x 5 Playfair Cipher can support only 25 uppercase alphabets. Here we have implemented a new technique which includes a rectangular matrix having 10 columns and 9 rows and six iteration steps for encryption as well as decryption purpose. This 10 x 9 rectangular matrix includes all alphanumeric characters and some special characters. Cryptanalysis is done to show that the modified cipher is a strong one. Finally we have implemented this concept with the help of MATLAB

    Digital Image Forgery

Image control has disintegrated our trust of computerized pictures, with progressively unobtrusive fraud techniques representing a regularly expanding test to the integrity of images and their legitimacy. With the progress of advanced image controlling software and modifying tools, an electronic picture can be successively controlled. Checking the decency of pictures and recognizing indications of modifying without requiring extra pre-inserted data of the image is the basic field of inspection. In this paper, a study of such research commitments has been directed by following a well-defined and systematic procedure. There are different paths for modifying an image, for instance, copy-move, splicing, and re-sampling. This paper focuses on two types of digital image forgery detection which are copy move and splicing of image

Towards the Internet of Robotic Things : Analysis, Architecture, Components and Challenges

Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics cannot be considered two separate domains these days. Internet of Robotics Things (IoRT) is a concept that has been recently introduced to describe the integration of robotics technologies in IoT scenarios. As a consequence, these two research fields have started interacting, and thus linking research communities. In this paper we intend to make further steps in joining the two communities and broaden the discussion on the development of this interdisciplinary field. The paper provides an overview, analysis and challenges of possible solutions for the Internet of Robotic Things, discussing the issues of the IoRT architecture, the integration of smart spaces and robotic applications.arXiv:1907.03817</p

Short-chain n-alkanes in benthic mats and mosses from the Larsemann Hills, East Antarctica

    No full text
Variation in leaf colour (green, red and grey) of mosses and lake benthic mats in Antarctica is often linked to water stress and ultraviolet light (UV-B) exposure. Changes in the abundance of organic compounds, such as pectin and phenols, are associated with mechanisms protecting against desiccation and UV radiation. However, the function of n-alkanes, especially against UV radiation, is rarely examined. Here, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analyses were performed to study the variation in n-alkanes in freshwater lake benthic mats and mosses collected from the Larsemann Hills in East Antarctica. Stable isotopes of organic carbon and nitrogen, environmental DNA characterisation and microscopy-based analyses are used to estimate the presence of cyanobacteria, algae and diatoms in moss and benthic mat consortia. Variation in the short-chain (n-C17 to n-C20) versus long-chain (n-C21 to n-C30) n-alkanes in the mosses and benthic mats with their colour were noted. The research links the relative abundance of short-chain n-alkanes to the UV-B exposure and proposes that Antarctic mosses and benthic mats synthesise short-chain n-alkanes for protection against UV-B.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Sanitary Engineerin
