Considering ethics and power relations in a qualitative study exploring experiences of divorce among British-Indian adult children

"This paper outlines the need for the critical scrutiny of ethics and power relations embedded in the research process, particularly when researching minority ethnic communities. Research with minority groups within institutional and structural contexts is challenging. It demands close engagement for recruitment, participation of minority community members for research. in addition, critical interpretation and reflexivity on part of researchers is vital to ensure that knowledge generated is not biased, or harmful that pathologises minority groups. This paper systematically considers issues of recruitment, participation, and interpretation throughout the research process through a qualitative research study carried out with British- Indian adult children of divorce. In doing so, it considers the strategies used and critical discusses their outcomes. It does not present findings but considers the experiences of conducting this research within the larger contexts of inquiry focussing on minority ethnic groups. The research processes are reflexively considered by the author and emphasises the need to consider power as dynamic relationship by engaging with the positions of the researcher and the researched, differing agendas, gender, cultural and linguistic influences within the interview that have shaped the data obtained. The paper concludes that research with minority ethnic communities is important and critical but needs to be conducted in ways that are cultural sensitivity, involve communities, provides opportunities for participation. Due to their minority status, research with this groups presents a greater need for analytical transparency-validation and critical researcher reflexivity." [author's abstract

Checkpoint Regulation of S-Phase Transcription: A Dissertation

The DNA replication checkpoint transcriptionally up-regulates genes that allow cells to adapt to and survive replication stress. Our results show that, in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, the replication checkpoint regulates the entire G1/S transcriptional program by directly regulating MBF (aka DSC1), the G1/S transcription factor. Instead of initiating a checkpoint-specific transcriptional program, the replication checkpoint targets MBF to maintain the normal G1/S transcriptional program during replication stress. We propose a mechanism for this regulation, based on in vitrophosphorylation of the Cdc10 subunit of MBF by the Cds1 replication-checkpoint kinase. Substitution of two potential phosphorylation sites with phospho-mimetic amino acids suffice to promote the checkpoint transcriptional program, suggesting that Cds1 phosphorylation directly regulates MBF-dependent transcription. The conservation of MBF between fission and budding yeast, and recent results implicating MBF as a target of the budding yeast replication checkpoint, suggest that checkpoint regulation of the MBF transcription factor may be a conserved strategy for coping with replication stress. Furthermore, the structural and regulatory similarity between MBF and E2F, the metazoan G1/S transcription factor, suggests that this checkpoint mechanism may be broadly conserved among eukaryotes. Our result shows that both the replication checkpoint and the S-phase DNA damage checkpoint are involved in activating MBF regulated S-phase gene transcription and that this coordinated transcriptional response is beneficial for survival during replication stress. I demonstrate that the beneficial role of the transcriptional response during checkpoint activation is mediated by three major MBF transcripts: cdc22, mrc1 and mik1. Mrc1 dependent stabilization of stalled fork is important during S phase arrest. However, cells ability to prevent mitosis (Mik1 dependent) along with stable fork (Mrc1 dependent) both are crucial for survival. Our data also suggest that the level of Cdc22 is a determining factor for replication checkpoint activation and when over-expressed can alleviate the effects not only in HU but also in MMS

Evaluation of Equity-linked structured products and pricing

Based on a unique data set, this research paper examines the pricing of equity-linked structured products in the market. The following section of this paper look at examining a few popular products available in the market, describing their key characteristics, and identifying one such product which will be examined closely for the purposes of determining if the issuing institution has priced the same fairly. The daily closing prices of a large variety of structured products are compared to theoretical values derived from the prices of options traded on the Eurex (European Exchange). This research paper also provides a brief background on the pricing of equity-linked structured products (‘products’) and issues around valuation of these products and look in detail fair pricing of the zero-coupon bond and the basket option. Comparing this with the market price of the instrument I could draw conclusions based on how close the real market price of the instrument is with the recomputed price

Review On Normal and Affected Fruit Classification

Automatic identification and classification of fruit diseases based on their particular symptoms are very useful to farmers and also agriculture scientists. Farmers and scientist are more concerned about fruit safety and quality because India is the second largest producer of fruits. Color and texture feature classification is used for recognition of fruits and to classify whether they are normal and affected fruit images. Color , texture components are extracted from fruit images. The RGB color features and the texture features are reduced in affected fruits. The BPNN classifier can be used for classification to get the improved result. This technique is used in agriculture and horticulture fields. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.150519
