Effect of relativistic acceleration on localized two-mode Gaussian quantum states

We study how an arbitrary Gaussian state of two localized wave packets, prepared in an inertial frame of reference, is described by a pair of uniformly accelerated observers. We explicitly compute the resulting state for arbitrarily chosen proper accelerations of the observers and independently tuned distance between them. To do so, we introduce a generalized Rindler frame of reference and analytically derive the corresponding state transformation as a Gaussian channel. Our approach provides several new insights into the phenomenon of vacuum entanglement such as the highly non-trivial effect of spatial separation between the observers including sudden death of entanglement. We also calculate the fidelity of the two-mode channel for non-vacuum Gaussian states and obtain bounds on classical and quantum capacities of a single-mode channel. Our framework can be directly applied to any continuous variable quantum information protocol in which the effects of acceleration or gravity cannot be neglected.Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures. The article is an introduction to further reflections on common pedagogical thoughts and linguistic connections present in the works of Joanna Kulmowa and Janusz Korczak. According to the author, both Korczak and Kulmowa prove to be leading representatives of childhood pedagogy, which relates to Korczak’s right of children to respect as well as the child’s right to literary escapism manifested by Kulmowa. Joanna Kulmowa, a diligent reader of the Old Doctor’s works, is associated with Janusz Korczak by the linguistic practice of autobiography, which, in its turn, is linked to the language of early childhood education mentioned in the introduction and the conclusion of the article. The subtitle „Prolegomena” is therefore justified. This is a preview of another, more extensive elaboration on this subject.Artykuł stanowi wstęp do dalszych rozważań na temat wspólnych pedagogicznych myśli i językowych związków obecnych w twórczości Joanny Kulmowej i Janusza Korczaka.

Analysis of complete positivity conditions for quantum qutrit channels

We present an analysis of complete positivity (CP) constraints on qutrit quantum channels that have a form of affine transformations of generalized Bloch vector. For diagonal (damping) channels we derive conditions analogous to the ones that in qubit case produce tetrahedron structure in the channel parameter space.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures (.eps), minor changes in the text and formula

The proteasomal and apoptotic phenotype determine bortezomib sensitivity of non-small cell lung cancer cells

    Get PDF
Bortezomib is a novel anti-cancer agent which has shown promising activity in non-small lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, only a subset of patients respond to this treatment. We show that NSCLC cell lines are differentially sensitive to bortezomib, IC50 values ranging from 5 to 83 nM. The apoptosis-inducing potential of bortezomib in NSCLC cells was found to be dependent not only on the apoptotic phenotype but also on the proteasomal phenotype of individual cell lines. Upon effective proteasome inhibition, H460 cells were more susceptible to apoptosis induction by bortezomib than SW1573 cells, indicating a different apoptotic phenotype. However, exposure to a low dose of bortezomib did only result in SW1573 cells, and not in H460 cells, in inhibition of proteasome activity and subsequent apoptosis. This suggests a different proteasomal phenotype as well. Additionally, overexpression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 in H460 cells did not affect the proteasomal phenotype of H460 cells but did result in decreased bortezomib-induced apoptosis. In conclusion, successful proteasome-inhibitor based treatment strategies in NSCLC face the challenge of having to overcome apoptosis resistance as well as proteasomal resistance of individual lung cancer cells. Further studies in NSCLC are warranted to elucidate underlying mechanisms

Poetry in the Context of Early Education. The World Must be “Caught up in Otherness” – Poems by Wisława Szymborska in the Reception of Five-Year-Olds

Poezja stymuluje rozwój procesów poznawczych i w znaczący sposób wpływa na rozwój emocjonalny małego dziecka. Analiza i interpretacja utworów poetyckich odgrywa ważną rolę w opanowaniu poprawnego języka, kształtowaniu i rozwijaniu pamięci, rozwijaniu wyobraźni twórczej dziecka. Zdaniem autorki małe dziecko potrzebuje niekonwencjonalnych przeżyć i doznań, impulsów filozoficznych i wolnościowych – takich, jakie daje właśnie poezja Szymborskiej „Tylko język poetycki dzisiaj może zainteresować młodego użytkownika Facebooka” – mówiła w 2009 roku Caroll Ann Duffy, nadworna poetka brytyjskiej rodziny królewskiej. Niniejszy artykuł jest przyczynkiem do rozważań na temat roli poezji w kontekście wczesnej edukacji.Poetry stimulates the development of cognitive processes and significantly affects the emotional development of the small child. The analysis and interpretation of poetry plays an important role in mastering a language, shaping and developing memory, and developing the child’s creative imagination. Nowadays, it seems necessary to reach for highly artistic poetry with a deep poetic message. Such are the poems of Wisława Szymborska who practises a kind of poetic pedagogy and play on words. The recipients of Szymborska’s poetry were five-year-old children, for whom the poems became an object of “great fun” and aesthetic satisfaction. The author of the article has been conducting classes with children based on highly artistic literary texts by Szymborska, Miłosz, Herbert, and Kulmowa for many years. According to the author, the small child needs unconventional experiences and sensations, philosophical and libertarian impulses – such as those provided by Szymborska’s poetry. “Only poetic language can interest a young Facebook user of today” – said Caroll Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom, in 2009. This article is a contribution to the reflection on the role of poetry in the context of early education

Communication between general-relativistic observers without a shared reference frame

We show how to reliably encode quantum information and send it between two arbitrary generalrelativistic observers without a shared reference frame. Information stored in a quantum field will inevitably be destroyed by an unknown Bogolyubov transformation relating the observers. However certain quantum correlations between different, independent fields will be preserved, no matter what transformation is applied. We show how to efficiently use these correlations in communication between arbitrary observers. -Introduction. The central question of the quantum information theory: how to reliably encode, send and decode information In this work we propose a general method of overcoming the problems of mutual communication with quantum states between two observers without a shared reference frame. When one party wishes to send a quantum state to the other, the state becomes distorted due to relative motion. However, following the idea of Ref. [5] we note that any type of motion affects states of all quantum fields in an analogous way. Consider a number of independent, non-interacting quantum fields. Although the states of individual fields will be affected by the relative motion in a certain way, some correlations between different fields will remain unaffected. Therefore if the sender and the receiver have access to at least two independent quantum fields, they can securely encode information into correlations between the fields and such information will not be affected by their relative motion. We show how the ability to create and measure these correlations allows the observers to reliably communicate even without sharing a common reference frame. The same method finds application also in more general schemes. For example, this approach can be applied to dynamical space-times that are asymptotically flat, such as the scenario of a collapsing star forming a black hole or an expanding universe modeled by Robertson-Walker space-time The idea presented in this work is closely related to the common concept of decoherence-free subspaces used in non-relativistic quantum information to avoid or at least minimize the effect of correlated noise onto communication -The model. In quantum field theory any change of the coordinate system, for example due to motion of the observer, leads to a certain transformation of all quantum state

EPSS – METHOD AND TOOLS FOR IMPROVING THE COMPETENCE IN THE XXI CENTURY

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the features and usability of Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) in education and improving the competence of adults. It is a serious problem for enterprises to search for employees (definite period, employment of students) for work that requires the use of business software. Learning (training) in the performance of tasks in such environment is an investment (requires time and expense). EPSS have been designed as tools to reduce the number of hours of training involving a trainer (human). These systems are coached - supported by people who use business software in their work on an ongoing basis. In the research we present how to implement them and in which way their popularization can help in hiring people without special pre-preparation, and only with the basic computer skills

The present study examines a series of flavanone and chalcone derivatives substituted with electron-withdrawing groups (Cl or Br) and electron-donating groups (OH, CH3 and OCH3), namely, 7-methoxy-2-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one, C16H14O3, 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one, C16H14O3, 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one, C17H16O3, 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one, C15H11ClO2, 8-bromo-6-methyl-2-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one, C16H13BrO2, (2E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, C16H14O3, and (2E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, C15H12O3. It compares the two groups of derivatives with regard to their intermolecular interactions in the crystal lattice and lattice energy calculations, together with energy framework visualization and global reactivity descriptors (chemical hardness, chemical potential and electrophilicity index). It also discusses the relationships between different noncovalent interactions derived from Hirshfeld surface analysis, crystal lattice energy and global reactivity descriptors of the compounds

The impact of type 1 diabetes on the development of the craniofacial mineralised tissues (bones and teeth): literature review

    Get PDF
Background: There are many reports on the impact of diabetes on periodontium as well as the state of organs in diabetics; however, there is little research on the impact of the disease on morphological and anatomical changes in the mineralised tissues like teeth and craniofacial bones. The aim of this study was to present a review of literature on morphological and anatomical changes of mineralised tissues in the course of type 1 diabetes. Materials and methods: A review of PubMed database was made using the keywords: morphological changes, anatomical changes, enamel hypoplasia, type 1 diabetes, induced diabetes and the names of individual anatomical and morphological structures of the teeth. Results: The analysis of experimental studies have shown that in induced type 1 diabetes in rats there is a substantial reduction in the thickness of the enamel and dentin, compared with the control group. The changes in the content of individual minerals in the tissues of the tooth have been shown — a decrease in the concentration of calcium and fluoride ions and an increase in the concentration of magnesium. In a study conducted on embryos of rats born of diabetic dams, defects were observed in enamel organ, which can cause delayed enamel hypoplasia. Literature analysis revealed morphological disorders also in some clinical cases of patients with type 1 diabetes. Conclusions: Type 1 diabetes mellitus as a metabolic disorder may affect changes in the structure of mineralised tissues, thereby increasing their susceptibility to caries development and orthognathic disorders
