Unusual behavior of growing pollen tubes in different combinations of pollination was observed in the ovary of the plum (Prunus domestica L.) cv 'Čačanska Lepotica'. It primarily refers to several issues, i.e. the curling up of pollen tubes within the micropyle, the growth of two pollen tubes into the nucellus of an ovule, the occurrence of a bundle above the nucellar cap and fluorescence of the part of the embryo sac containing the egg apparatus. Upon the growth of pollen tubes into the nucellus of the ovule, subsequently penetrating pollen tubes form a bundle either above the micropyle entrance or above the nucellus. Branching and bending of pollen tubes by 180o upon their growth into the micropyle was also observed

BACKGROUND: B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) is an example of human malignancy caused by alternations in the pathways of apoptosis. Mitochondria play a critical role in the regulation of this process. The B-CLL cells dying in apoptosis showed typical morphological characteristics: the reduction of the nuclear volume is accompanied with the reduction of the cytoplasmatic volume, while many of organelles remain intact. The aim of our study was ultrastructural investigation of mitochondrial morphology in apoptotic B- CLL cells. METHODS: Our study included peripheral blood samples from 32 B-CLL patients. The samples were fixed in 4% glutar-aldehyde buffered in 0.1 cacodylate buffer and postfixed in 1% osmium tetroxide in the same buffer. The specimens were dehydrated in a graded series of alcohol and embedded in EPON 812. The ultra-thin sections were stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. Ultrastructural analysis of sections was performed on Philips electron microscope 208S at 80 kV. RESULTS: The most frequent mitochondrial abnormalities in apoptotic B-CLL cells were a reduction of size with a hyperdensity of their matrix (mitochondrial pyknosis), or markedly swollen mitochondria with peripherally placed, disorientated, and disintegrated cristae. In some apoptotic cells, we also detected close association of mitochondria with loops of rough endoplasmatic reticulum. CONCLUSION: The results of our study showed the numerous of mitochondria damages in B-CLL cells during apoptotic process. The correlation between ultrastructural damage and functional activity of mitochondria in apoptotic B-CLL cells is still not clear and requires further investigation

Quark cheese is a diary product with high nutritive value. This product is essential food, but could, nevertheless, be enriched with some nutriments and thus, presented as functional food. A food can be regarded as "functional" if it is satisfactory demonstreted to affect beneficially one or more target functions in body, beyond adequate nutritional effects. The presented study evaluated the effect of probiotics on mineral composition. The results showed that quark cheese with probiotic has higher amount of Ca, Mg, Zn, K (45,61% 30,32; 20,18; 37,99 i 29,32; respectively), compared with quark cheese without probiotics. Results showed lower amount of Cu in quark cheese with probiotics.

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of different storage periods and temperatures on pollen viability in vitro and in vivo in plum genotypes ‘Valerija’, ‘Čačanska Lepotica’ and ‘Valjevka’. In vitro pollen viability was tested at day 0 (fresh dry pollen) and after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of storage at four different temperatures (4, −20, −80 and −196◦C), and in vivo after 12 months of storage at distinct temperatures. In vitro germination and fluorescein diacetate (FDA) staining methods were used to test pollen viability, while aniline blue staining was used for observing in vivo pollen tube growth. Fresh pollen germination and viability ranged from 42.35 to 63.79% (‘Valjevka’ and ‘Čačanska Lepotica’, respectively) and 54.58 to 62.15%, (‘Valjevka’ and ‘Valerija’, respectively). With storage at 4◦C, pollen viability and germination decreased over the period, with the lowest value after 12 months of storage. Pollen germination and viability for the other storage temperatures (−20, −80 and −196◦C) were higher than 30% by the end of the 12 months. Pollination using pollen stored at 4◦C showed that pollen tube growth mostly ended in the lower part of the style. With the other storage temperatures, pollen tube growth was similar, ranging between 50 and 100% of the pistils with pollen tubes penetrated into the nucellus of the ovule in the genotype ‘Čačanska Lepotica’. The results of these findings will have implications for plum pollen breeding and conservation. © 2022 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland

In this paper, we have investigated the temperature dependence of dielectric properties (relative dielectric permeabilities and dielectric tangents of losses) for woven fabrics of hemp, jute, flax, cotton, polyester (PES), cotton-PES mixture, and wool. The measurements have been carried out at a temperature range from -50 to 50 degrees C in the electric periodic field at a frequency 1 MHz in vacuum. For the same specimens, the values of the dielectric properties have also been measured at an air temperature of 21 degrees C and at relative humidities of 40%, 60%, and 80%. At different frequencies from 80 kHz to 5 MHz, the dielectric properties have been measured at a relative humidity of 40% and at a temperature of 21 degrees C. An investigation of the dielectric properties of woven fabrics can provide a better understanding of the relation between the dielectric properties of woven fabrics and the different raw material compositions, temperatures, relative air humidities, and frequencies for specimens. Hence, this investigation helps to improve textile material properties

Comparative study of the electrical and structural properties of woven fabrics

The application of woven fabrics as the substrate materials for electronic products causes the need to examine their electrical properties at various external effects. This paper presents the results of electrical properties of the fabrics of cotton, cotton/polyethyleneterephtalate (PET) and PET. Dielectric loss factor and dielectric permeability were analyzed in a wide range of temperatures and frequencies. Relaxation peak which appears in this measuring region was identified as the secondary beta-relaxation. At different frequencies the dielectric permeability has been analyzed at a different relative humidity at room temperature. At the higher values of relative humidity with the increase of frequency leads to greater reduction of the dielectric permeability and this is more prominent in the samples of cotton and cotton/PET blend. The dc volume resistivity has been investigated in the function of relative humidity at room temperature and interpreted by the raw composition and the structural properties. On the basis of the obtained results, it was concluded that on the electrical properties of cotton/PET blend, cotton has greater impact i.e. the component with the higher dielectric permeability value and smaller dc volume resistivity value

Some electrophysical properties of textile samples having different forms and raw material compositions were studied. For determining the electric resistance, a measuring device, based on the measurement of direct current through textile samples, was developed. The dielectric loss tangents and relative dielectric permeabilities were measured for some of the-textile samples tested. The dielectric properties were measured using specially designed capacitance cells
