Simple Weight Modules of the Lie Algebra of Vector Fields of C2
Classification of the weight modules of the Lie algebra Wn of vector fields on C n has been a long-standing problem in the area of representation theory. In this thesis, a classification of all simple weight modules of W2 with a uniformly bounded set of weight multiplicities is provided, and much of the theory that will be needed to classify all simple weight modules of Wn with a uniformly bounded set of weight multiplicities will also be developed. To achieve this classification, a new family of generalized tensor Wn-modules is introduced, and a twisted localization functor is applied
Neuropsychological evaluation of children with intracranial tumors: impact of treatment modalities
Antineoplastic treatment has a deleterious effect on intellectual functions, which is mainly attributable to radiotherapy. With the object of determining the neuropsychological disturbances associated with brain irradiation in the child, and to try to differentiate them from the effects caused by the other types of treatment (surgical and chemotherapy) as well as from the effects of the tumor itself, a cross-sectional study was carried out in 25 survivors of medial edge intracranial tumors. In order to monitor the effect of systemic chemotherapy on the cognitive functions, and the effect of prolonged absence from school, two control groups were formed, one made up of subjects treated with chemotherapy for extracranial tumors, and the other of patients with non-malignant chronic disease. Neuropsychological functions were measured using the Spanish version of the Wechsler scale, as well as the following tests: Spreen-Benton, ITPA and TALE scales, Yuste Memory Test, Thurstone Attention Test, and the Rey Complex Figure. In addition to a progressive decline found in the full scale intelligence quotient in children irradiated for intracranial tumors, variance analysis showed that these patients deteriorate mainly in visual attention and memory, but also significantly in verbal fluency and in the Performance Intelligence Quotient and all its subtests, when compared to the control groups. Visual attention and the Wechsler Picture Arrangement and Block Designs, were the tests whose decline correlated with the total radiation administered. The article relates this specific neuropsychological injury with the total brain irradiation dose but also with the structures located in the cone-down fields of irradiation to boost regions in the middle edge intracranial content
The receptivity of Eldermed members toward the purchase of long-term care insurance
The Long-Term Care Insurance Attitude Survey was mailed to 3600 ElderMed members in the Los Angeles Area to assess their knowledge of long-term care financing, interest in and perceived affordability of long-term care insurance. One-half of the surveys were mailed with an educational brochure regarding long-term care to measure impact on attitudes and knowledge. Eleven point six percent of the surveys were returned. Significantly fewer (p.0l) of the subjects who received the brochure returned the survey. The brochure had no significant impact on attitudes or knowledge. Knowledge that Medicare alone does not pay for long-term care was positively correlated with both general interest level and the belief that insurance is affordable. However, there was no relationship between knowledge that Medicare combined with supplemental insurance does not pay for long-term care and the belief that insurance is affordable. Belief that one would require long-term care was correlated with interest level and the belief that insurance is affordable. Respondents (49%) expressed the most interest in insurance which covers the continuum of long-term care services. Twenty-six percent were most interested in coverage of only home-based services, and 25% of only institutionally-based. These data suggest that marketing efforts should focus on the risk of requiring services and the lack of coverage provided by Medicare, that individual and group seminars may be more successful than mailed information, and policies which cover the continuum of long-term care services would be most successful.California State University, Northridge.
