On the maximum rank of a real binary form
We show that a real homogeneous polynomial f(x,y) with distinct roots and
degree d greater or equal than 3 has d real roots if and only if for any (a,b)
not equal to (0,0) the polynomial af_x+bf_y has d-1 real roots. This answers to
a question posed by P. Comon and G. Ottaviani, and shows that the interior part
of the locus of degree d binary real binary forms of rank equal to d is given
exactly by the forms with d real roots.Comment: To appear in Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicat
Policies and Education in Latin America : From the 'competitive quality' to 'quality for the generation of bicentenary'
Magnetic polarons in Ca_(1-x)Y_xMnO_3
Experimental evidence show that in the magnetoresistive manganite Ca_(1-x)
Y_xMnO_3, ferromagnetic (FM) polarons arises in an antiferromagnetic (AF)
background, as a result of the doping with Yttrium. This hypothesis is
supported in this work by classical Monte Carlo (MC) calculations performed on
a model where FM Double Exchange (DE) and AF Superexhange (SE) compite.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figs, submitted to LAW3M conferenc
Improving Diabetic Foot Screening in a Primary Care Clinic for Homeless Adults: A Quality Improvement Project
The purpose of this project was to increase the adherence of clinic providers at the homeless primary care clinic by implementing the American Diabetes Association Clinical Guidelines for the evaluation and management of Type 2 diabetes with foot care. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that affects 13% of the Texas adult population (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). The homeless person\u27s main method of transportation is walking. The complications of undiagnosed foot problems include reduced mobility, pain, lower limb amputations, and difficulty controlling chronic diseases including diabetes and depression. Provider responsibilities include screening for diabetes in all patients over the age of 18, documenting positive diagnosis in the electronic medical record, screening patients with diabetes for foot problems with appropriate screening tools and appropriate referral to podiatry.
A retrospective chart review was conducted where 35 patient charts were reviewed and de-identified. The pre- and post interventions were analyzed. At project completion, high no-show rates among patients for appointments and the short project duration were major limitations of the project. The interventions implemented were helpful in increasing provider documentation of the patients that did show up. Homeless people are exposed to the elements adding to their daily struggles, which indicate a need for continuous work on intervention models that will facilitate provider adherence with subsequent referral for treatment if needed
Improving Navigation in GNSS-challenging Environments: Multi-UAS Cooperation and Generalized Dilution of Precision
This paper presents an approach to tackle navigation challenges for Unmanned Aircraft Systems flying under non nominal GNSS coverage. The concept used to improve navigation performance in these environments consists in using one or more cooperative platforms and relative sensing measurements (based on vision and/or ranging) to the navigation aid. The paper details the cooperative navigation filter which can exploit multiple cooperative platforms and multiple relative measurements, while also using partial GNSS information. The achievable navigation accuracy can be predicted using the concept of "generalized dilution of precision", which derives from applying the idea of dilution of precision to the mathematical structure of the cooperative navigation filter. Values and trends of generalized dilution of precision are discussed as a function of the relative geometry in common GNSS-challenging scenarios. Finally, navigation performance is assessed based on simulations and on multi-drone flight tests
The Level of Handwashing Knowledge and Behavior of Yos Sudarso High School Medan Students' During The COVID-19 Pandemic
Background: The COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) outbreak which was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, has spread rapidly. One way of preventing and controlling infection in the community is by washing hands thoroughly and regularly. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of handwashing knowledge and behavior of Yos Sudarso High School Medan students’ during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The design used was one group pretest-posttest design. The type of data is primary data obtained through online questionnaires using a total sampling technique. Results: Of the 76 respondents, the level of knowledge on handwashing was dominated by the low category, namely 65 people (85.5%) and the good category of handwashing behavior, namely 59 people (77.6%). After being given information, the level of the good knowledge was 35 people (46.1%) and the good behavior was 66 people (86.8%). Students have a low knowledge about handwashing but have a good handwashing intensity behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Given information, there is an increase on the level of handwashing knowledge and behavior of Yos Sudarso High School Medan students’ during the COVID-19 pandemic
Characteristics of Lung Cancer Patients in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan in 2016-2018
Lung cancer is a malignant disease in the lung where abnormalities caused by collection of genetic changes in the epithelial cells of the airway, which lead to cell proliferation that cannot be controlled. This study was conducted to determine the characteristics of lung cancer patients in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan in 2016-2018. This research is a descriptive study with a case series approach. The study population was 311 lung cancer patients using Total Sampling method. The tendency of inpatient lung cancer patients visiting H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan in 2016-2018 has decreased. The highest proportion of patients with lung cancer based on sociodemography obtained 65-69 years old age group, men with 3: 1 sex ratio, work of farmers, living outside the city of Medan, the main complaint was more than one complaint, had a history of smoking, no pleural effusion occurred, the type of adenocarcinoma histology and the method of taking a cytological fluid specimen. There was a statistically significant relationship between age with sex, sex with occupation, sex with smoking history, occupation with primary complaints, occupation with smoking history, and histology type by specimen collection and there rest have no statistically significant difference
Evidence of strong antiferromagnetic coupling between localized and itinerant electrons in ferromagnetic Sr2FeMoO6
Magnetic dc susceptibility () and electron spin resonance (ESR)
measurements in the paramagnetic regime, are presented. We found a Curie-Weiss
(CW) behavior for (T) with a ferromagnetic K and
, this being lower than that expected for
either or ions. The ESR g-factor , is associated with . We obtained an excellent description
of the experiments in terms of two interacting sublattices: the localized
() cores and the delocalized electrons. The coupled equations
were solved in a mean-field approximation, assuming for the itinerant electrons
a bare susceptibility independent on . We obtained
emu/mol. We show that the reduction of for
arises from the strong antiferromagnetic (AFM) interaction between the two
sublattices. At variance with classical ferrimagnets, we found that is
ferromagnetic. Within the same model, we show that the ESR spectrum can be
described by Bloch-Hasegawa type equations. Bottleneck is evidenced by the
absence of a -shift. Surprisingly, as observed in CMR manganites, no
narrowing effects of the ESR linewidth is detected in spite of the presence of
the strong magnetic coupling. These results provide evidence that the magnetic
order in does not originates in superexchange interactions,
but from a novel mechanism recently proposed for double perovskites
