A new construction of Lagrangians in the complex Euclidean plane in terms of planar curves

We introduce a new method to construct a large family of Lagrangian surfaces in complex Euclidean plane by means of two planar curves making use of their usual product as complex functions and integrating the Hermitian product of their position and tangent vectors. Among this family, we characterize minimal, constant mean curvature, Hamiltonian stationary, solitons for mean curvature flow and Willmore surfaces in terms of simple properties of the curvatures of the generating curves. As an application, we provide explicitly conformal parametrizations of known and new examples of these classes of Lagrangians in complex Euclidean plane.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

The purpose of this work is making an analysis of the situation of students with intellectual disabilities and / or mental illness who live in prison in relation to inclusive education in the European Union. In the present text I study if persons with disabilities who are serving a sentence in a institution of deprivation of liberty if they have access to inclusive education (a vulnerability situation for which they need greater protection in order to achieve the real and effective inclusion in society). I try to present several recommendations to the member states in order that the students with special educational needs and in a highly vulnerable situation can access inclusive education so that no discrimination is generated with respect to the rest of the students

    ¿Qué es una carretera inteligente?

A smart road is the planning of avenues or roads that become advanced intelligent platforms, which allow detailed infrastructure to embody or develop their functions (such as traffic signals and tolls). It allows vehicles to communicate and share an essential information base with deterministic characteristics between a system for receiving and exporting information. In this way, a driver can know in advance if a traffic accident has occurred or if weather conditions are making it difficult for vehicles to pass. This article documents several characteristic aspects of the functioning of each of the parts that make up the intelligent highway.

Accretion and UV variability in BP Tauri

BP Tau is one of the few classical T Tauri stars for which the presence of a hot spot in the surface has been reported without ambiguity. The most likely source of heating is gravitational energy released by the accreting material as it shocks with the stellar surface. This energy is expected to be radiated mainly at UV wavelengths. In this work we report the variations of the UV spectrum of BP Tau for 1992 January 5-19, when the star was monitored with IUE during two rotation periods. Our data indicate that lines that can be excited by recombination processes, such as those from O I and He II, have periodic-like light curves, whereas lines that are only collisionally excited do not follow a periodic-like trend. These results agree with the expectations of the magnetically channeled accretion models. The kinetic energy released in the accretion shocks is expected to heat the gas to temperatures of similar to 10(6) K, which henceforth produces ionizing radiation. The UV (Balmer) continuum and the O I and He II lines are direct outputs of the recombination process. However, the C IV, Si II, and Mg II lines are collisionally excited not only in the shock region but also in inhomogeneous accretion events and in the active (and flaring) magnetosphere, and therefore their light curves are expected to be blurred by these irregular processes. We also report the detection of warm infalling gas from the presence of redshifted (81 km s(-1)) absorption components in some of the high-resolution Mg II profiles available in the IUE and Hubble Space Telescope archives

Soil microbiota benefits from phytoremediation coupled to metal-resistant rhizobacteria

Phytoremediation is used for requalifying soils contaminated with heavy metals (HM). Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is one of the most studied species for the remediation of HM-contaminated soils. To increase the bioavailability of nutrients and of metals in soils, metal-resistant plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), can be associated to phytoremediation strategies. Soil microbiota can benefit from this association, due to the reduced exposure to HMs toxic effect. In this study, next-generation sequencing (NGS) was applied for investigating shifts in soil microbial community after HMs remediation by sunflowers from a soil amended with Cupriavidus sp. strain 1C2. Sunflower was also grown in a non-contaminated soil (control). Actinobacteria were dominant while Proteobacteria was the second most abundant phylum in both soils. Acidobacteria and Nitrospirae were present in higher relative abundance in the control soil. Results have shown that phytoremediation associated to PGPR induced changes in the contaminated soil microbial community: Acidobacterium (Acidobacteria phylum) and Nitrospira (Nitrospirae phylum) bacterial genera increased their abundance at the end of plant growth. These changes did not occur in the control soil, which presented a more stable bacterial community throughout the experiment. This research increases our knowledge on the relationship between soil microbiota and phytoremediation strategies achievements.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Sequencing batch airlift reactors (SBAR): a suitable technology for treatment and valorization of mineral oil wastewaters towards lipids production

Produced water (PW) and spent oil-based wastewaters are some of the largest mineral oil wastewaters produced. Due to the high toxicity of hydrocarbons, several countries set stringent discharge limits and its treatment is compulsory before discharge. In this work, biological treatment of mineral oil wastewaters coupled with the production of bacterial lipids is demonstrated in sequential batch airlift reactors (SBAR). Two SBAR (2 L working volume) were used for treatment of PW and lubricant-based wastewater (LW), inoculated with Alcanivorax borkumensis SK2 (SBARAb+PW) and Rhodococcus opacus B4 (SBARR.o+LW), respectively. A total petroleum hydrocarbon removal (TPH) efficiency up to 96% and 80% were achieved for SBARAb+PW and SBARR.o+LW, respectively. Intracellular lipids production in SBARAb+PW increased when lower TPH/N ratios and higher feast stage duration were applied (up to 0.74 g g-1 cell dry weight (CDW)), whereas in SBARR.o+LW higher lipids production was observed for higher TPH/N ratios (0.94 g g-1 in CDW). Triacylglycerols (TAG) were the main intracellular lipid accumulated in both SBARAb+PW and SBARR.o+LW operations, while wax ester (WE) production was only observed extracellularly in the SBARAb+PW.This work was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under the scope of project SaltOil+ (POCI-01-0145-FEDER030180); the strategic programmes UIDB/04469/2020, UID/BIA/4050/ 2013 (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007569) and UID/BIA/04050/2019; and by the BioTecNorte operation (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000004) funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the scope of Norte2020 - Programa Operacional Regional do Norte.
