Institutional open access repositories are essential in today’s scholarly communication system. It´s observed significant growth of its use by public institutions of higher education in Brazil in the last fifteen years. The use of the web environment for production, storage, dissemination and access to scientific and technological information grows, impacting the entire structure of scientific communication. This new format needs new indicators for the metric studies of scientific and technological information, as webometric and altmetrics indicators. Through exploratory and descriptive research, it shows how these institutions are adapting their repositories to the new scenario. It was identified that 70% of the repositories provide statistical data on access and download of its items, 22% offer altmetric data, 83% use “identifiers resolution system” of digital objects. It shows that public higher education institutions are now adapting their repositories to the new scenario of metric information studies, and altmetrics presents incipient results

Data has become increasingly important and valuable for both scientists and health authorities searching for answers to the COVID-19 crisis. Due to difficulties in diagnosing this infection in populations around the world, initiatives supported by digital technologies are being developed by governments and private companies to enable the tracking of the public’s symptoms, contacts and movements. Considering the current scenario, initiatives designed to support infection surveillance and monitoring are essential and necessary. Nonetheless, ethical, legal and technical questions abound regarding the amount and types of personal data being collected, processed, shared and used in the name of public health, as well as the concomitant or posterior use of this data. These challenges demonstrate the need for new models of responsible and transparent data and technology governance in efforts to control SARS-COV2, as well as in future public health emergencies

Data is becoming ever more critical and valuable for both scientists and health authorities searching for answers to the COVID-19 crisis. Due to difficulties in diagnosing this infection in populations around the world, initiatives supported by digital technologies have been developed by governments or private companies which enable the tracking of the public’s symptoms, contacts and movements. Considering the current scenario, these initiatives, designed to support the surveillance and monitoring of contagion, are essential and necessary.  Nonetheless, ethical, legal and technical questions remain unanswered regarding the amount and types of personal data being collected, processed, shared and used in the name of public health, as well as the concomitant or later use of this data. These challenges demonstrate the need for new models of responsible and transparent data and technology governance in efforts to control Sars-Cov2 as well as future public health emergencies.

Background: The safety and effectiveness of moderately hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy for breast cancer were demonstrated by several trials. This study aimed to evaluate the current patterns of practice and prescription preference about moderately hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy to assess possible aspects that affect the decision-making process regarding the use of fractionation in breast cancer patients in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). We also aimed to identify factors that can restrain the utilization of moderately hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy for breast cancer. Materials an methods: Radiation oncologists from LAC were invited to contribute to this study. A 38-question survey was used to evaluate their opinions. Results: A total of 173 radiation oncologists from 13 countries answered the questionnaire. The majority of respondents (84.9%) preferred moderately hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy as their first choice in cases of whole breast irradiation. Whole breast plus regional nodal irradiation, post-mastectomy (chest wall and regional nodal irradiation) without reconstruction, and post-mastectomy (chest wall and regional node irradiation) with reconstruction hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy was preferred by 72.2% 71.1%, and 53.7% of respondents, respectively. Breast cancer stage, and flap-based breast reconstruction were the factors associated with absolute contraindications for the use of hypofractionated schedules. Conclusion: Even though moderately hypofractionated post-operative radiation therapy for breast cancer is considered a new standard to the vast majority of the patients, its unrestricted application in clinical practice across LAC still faces reluctance

Field of the information metrics studies with nine years of existence, altmetrics has in Brazil a history three years more recent. If, on the other hand, we consider the field more broadly, such as scientometric studies based on cybermetric or web-based data, we could identify older works. However, delimitation of the field occurred in 2010, when Jason Priem coined the term “altmetrics” via Twitter having arrived in Brazil as “altmetria” in 2013. In the exploratory bibliometric study here presented, we used the Lattes curriculum to identify articles and communications in congresses of researchers, with or without a doctorate degree, who work in the field of altmetrics in Brazil, their large areas and areas of expertise, geographical distribution and the evolution of data and thematic sources over the years. To this end, the identification of curricula was made through the advanced search in the Lattes Platform by the terms “altmetria”, “altmétrico”, “altmétrica”, “altmetric” or “altmetrics”. The 94 curricula found, 37 of which were doctors and 57 of non-doctors, had their contents filtered by the search terms used. Twenty-six articles were identified in periodicals and 36 communications in events. From the 94 researchers it is verified that 53 of them produced only in altmetrics and 41 with intercession with Facebook, Twitter or Mendeley. The field is dominated by researchers from the large area of Applied Social Sciences with emphasis on Information Science and to a lesser extent for Communication. Research focus have been evolving from more theoretical approaches towards practical, evaluative, critical and institutional and regional contexts
