Community-based intervention in schools : a personal and social competence promotion program
Primary prevention, through universal interventions, aims at the development
of personal and social resources, and nowadays, it is one of the most important strategies
for the prevention of drugs abuse in youth. School setting is pointed out as one of the
best scenarios for health promotion actions. In this article are shown results of a Personal
and Social Competences Promotion Program - PSCPP [1] [2] which took place in two
schools in Lisbon. The program aims to prevent substance use, by means of developing
personal and social competences. 100 students, aged between eight and eleven years,
participated, mostly boys. The intervention occurred during school classes and was
based on role-playing activities. Evaluation showed significant positive results in what
concerns psychological difficulties, perception of social support, and problem solving
competences. Teachers’ evaluation pointed out a better social behaviour among peers,
as well as the importance of implementing programs promoting personal and social
competences in schools. PSCPP had a positive impact on children positive health.

There is no failure. Only feedback- enhancing effort throw change oriented feedback: the mediation effects of organizational based self-esteem and trust in leader
Feedback is a powerful way of interaction between leaders and their teams. However, its benefits
on future performance are found not to be linear. Prompting oriented feedback (or positive
feedback) has a positive influence on future performance, however, according to past research, the
same relation is not consistent for change oriented feedback (or negative feedback). With this
research, we propose to study the relation between change oriented feedback and individual effort.
Moreover, we test two possible mechanisms (mediators) of change oriented feedback on individual
effort. To perform this study, we used a sample of youth football players and their coaches,
participating in an end season football tournament
Prevention of bullying in schools: an ecological model
The main goal is to understand the different processes, characteristics, settings and timing of bullying behaviour according to ecological system theory. The data is based on the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children surveys conducted in 1997/1998 and 2001/2002 in which students with average ages of 11.5, 13.5 and 15.5 years participated. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, logistic regression, and structural equation modelling and multiple regression. Victims are usually highly associated with internalizing behaviours, bullies frequently indicate a high association with externalizing behaviours, and bully/victims often have strong associations with excessive and extreme behaviours of both an internalizing and an externalizing type. For each country, with in the school, victims and bully/victims reported lower levels of support from classmates, and bullies and bully/victims received similar support from teachers. Outside school, victims reported lower levels of support from friends. Across nations, bullying attained its highest prevalence, for both victims and bullies, in the lower and higher GDP countries (U-shaped curve). These findings support the assumption that involvement in bullying will damage the healthy development of young people and turn the world into malfunctioning societies. It is important for society to develop strategies that might prevent bullying, and school is considered to be a particularly important setting for implementing systematic approaches towards preventing bullying behaviour. Furthermore, school is in a position to initiate collaboration with both parents and local community which is important for wide reaching impact of the prevention strategies
Contracto Futuro, Mispricing, Cost-of-carry
