High efficiency and high linearity power amplifier design

    Get PDF
The optimum high-frequency Class-F loading conditions are inferred, accounting for the effects of actual output device behavior, and deriving useful charts for an effective design. The important role of the biasing point selection is stressed, demonstrating that it must be different from the Class-B theoretical one to get the expected improvement. The IMD behavior of the Class-F amplifier is presented and the large-signal sweet-spot origin in the IMD output characteristics is discussed, together with possible strategies to improve intermodulation distortion performances. The control of the sweet spot position is demonstrated via proper terminating impedances, both at fundamental and harmonic frequencies and low frequencies

Effect of the presence of surfactant and ionic liquids on the esterification of oleic acid catalyzed by immobilized lipase

    Get PDF
Ionic liquids (ILs) and surfactants are widely used in order to increase the catalytic efficiency of lipases. In this sense, the present study aimed to evaluate the potential of different ionic liquids (C4MIM.Ac, C4MIM.HSO4, C4MIM.TF2N, C4MIM.BF4, C12MIM.I, and C12MIM.Cl), Aliquat 336 and di-2-ethylhexyl sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) as adjuvants in the esterification of oleic acid with different alcohols catalyzed by Novozyme 435. First of all, it evaluates the effect of alkyl chain length of the alcohol and the positioning of the hydroxyl group. The selection of additives, made with isopropyl alcohol, pointed AOT and C4MIM.Ac as adjuvants effective on the potential of esterification of the enzyme (an increase of 35% in the potential of esterification). Using methanol, ethanol and 3-methyl-1-butanol, the C4MIM.Ac was proven not to be efficient, while the AOT shows adjuvant effect in the esterification of oleic acid with methanol (increasing in catalytic efficiency of enzyme in 21%).Key words: Esterification, di-2-ethylhexyl sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT), Ionic Liquids, Novozyme 435

Mobility deficit – Rehabilitate, an opportunity for functionality

    Get PDF
There are many pathological conditions that cause mobility deficits and that ultimately influence someone’s autonomy.Aims: to evaluate patients with mobility deficits functional status; to implement a Rehabilitation Nursing intervention plan; to monitor health gains through mobility deficits rehabilitation. Conclusion: Early intervention and the implementation of a nursing rehabilitation intervention plan results in health gains (direct or indirect), decreases the risk of developing Pressure Ulcers (PU) and the risk of developing a situation of immobility that affects patients’ autonomy and quality of life

The aim of this study was to investigate the results of the red reflex test and to associate these results with neonatal variables. This descriptive study was conducted with 190 newborns in a public maternity hospital. A total of 187 infants presented no alteration and three presented suspect results. Different shades of reflex color were observed: 50 (26.3%) presented red; 34 (17.9%) orange-red, 92 (48.4%) orange, 11 (5.8%) light yellow and three (1.6%) milky white spots. Statistically significant associations between the color gradient instrument and neonatal variables were found: weight (p=0.03), gestational age (p=0.019) and oxygen therapy (p=0.024). Nurses trained to practice and evaluate this test may become professionals in the potential for the prevention of childhood blindness.Se objetivó investigar el resultado de la prueba del reflejo rojo, conocido como prueba del ojito, y asociar las impresiones del reflejo con variables neonatales. Effectiveness of the bucco-lingual technique within a school-based supervised toothbrushing program on preventing caries: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract Background Supervised toothbrushing programs using fluoride dentifrice have reduced caries increment. However there is no information about the effectiveness of the professional cross-brushing technique within a community intervention. The aim was to assess if the bucco-lingual technique can increase the effectiveness of a school-based supervised toothbrushing program on preventing caries. Methods A randomized double-blinded controlled community intervention trial to be analyzed at an individual level was conducted in a Brazilian low-income fluoridated area. Six preschools were randomly assigned to the test and control groups and 284 five-year-old children presenting at least one permanent molar with emerged/sound occlusal surface participated. In control group, oral health education and dental plaque dying followed by toothbrushing with fluoride dentifrice supervised directly by a dental assistant, was developed four times per year. At the remaining school days the children brushed their teeth under indirect supervising of the teachers. In test group, children also underwent a professional cross-brushing on surfaces of first permanent molar rendered by a specially trained dental assistant five times per year. Enamel and dentin caries were recorded on buccal, occlusal and lingual surfaces of permanent molars during 18-month follow-up. Exposure time of surfaces was calculated and incidence density ratio was estimated using Poisson regression model. Results Difference of 21.6 lesions per 1,000 children between control and test groups was observed. Among boys whose caries risk was higher compared to girls, incidence density was 50% lower in test group (p = 0.016). Conclusion Modified program was effective among the boys. It is licit to project a relevant effect in a larger period suggesting in a broader population substantial reduction of dental care needs. Trial registration ISRCTN18548869

Ten-year survival of ART restorations in permanent posterior teeth

    Get PDF
This study evaluated the 10-year clinical performance of high-viscosity glass-ionomer cement placed in posterior permanent teeth by means of the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) approach. One operator placed 167 single- and 107 multiple-surface restorations in 43 high-risk caries pregnant women (mean decayed teeth = 9.8 ± 5.5). Examinations were performed at 1-, 2-, and 10-year intervals according to ART criteria. In the last evaluation, the US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria were also used. After 10 years, 129 restorations (47.1%) were evaluated and achieved a cumulative survival rate of 49.0% (SE 7.2%). The 10-year survival of single- and multiple-surface ART restorations assessed using the ART criteria were 65.2% (SE 7.3%) and 30.6% (SE 9.9%), respectively. This difference was significant (jackknife SE of difference; p < 0.05). Using the USPHS criteria, the 10-year survival of single- and multiple-surface ART restorations were 86.5% and 57.6%, respectively. The primary causes of failure were total loss (9.3%) and marginal defects (5.4%). The survival rates observed, especially for the single-surface restorations, confirm the potential of the ART approach for restoring and saving posterior permanent teeth
