    La investigación denominada “Actividad física y su influencia en el rendimiento académico de educación física en una Institución Educativa, Buena Fe – Ecuador, 2021” tuvo como objetivo determinar la influencia de la actividad física en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de la Escuela de Educación Básica “13 de Abril”, del cantón Buena Fe. La investigación planteó la hipótesis que afirmaba que la actividad física influye significativamente en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de la Escuela de Educación Básica “13 de Abril”, del cantón Buena Fe, 2021. La muestra de estudio corresponde a 45 estudiantes de la Escuela de Educación Básica “13 de Abril”, del cantón Buena Fe. El estudio es no experimental, asume un diseño correlacional causal, desarrolló la técnica de la encuesta, validaron dos cuestionarios con respuestas de escala ordinal. Para el procesamiento de la información se utilizó el software SPSS versión 22. Los resultados correlacionales de la tabla 7 explican que dado los valores Sig: 0,000 y rho: 0,829** alcanzados se comprueba la hipótesis de la investigación. La investigación concluye afirmando que la actividad física influye significativamente en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de la Escuela de Educación Básica “13 de Abril”, del cantón Buena Fe, 2021

    Molecules involved in the sperm interaction in the human uterine tube: a histochemical and immunohistochemical approach

    In humans, even where millions of spermatozoa are deposited upon ejaculation in the vagina, only a few thousand enter the uterine tube (UT). Sperm transiently adhere to the epithelial cells lining the isthmus reservoir, and this interaction is essential in coordinating the availability of functional spermatozoa for fertilization. The binding of spermatozoa to the UT epithelium (mucosa) occurs due to interactions between cell-adhesion molecules on the cell surfaces of both the sperm and the epithelial cell. However, in humans, there is little information about the molecules involved. The aim of this study was to perform a histological characterization of the UT focused on determining the tissue distribution and deposition of some molecules associated with cell adhesion (F-spondin, galectin-9, osteopontin, integrin αV/β3) and UT’s contractile activity (TNFα-R1, TNFα- R2) in the follicular and luteal phases. Our results showed the presence of galectin-9, F-spondin, osteopontin, integrin αV/β3, TNFα-R1, and TNFα-R2 in the epithelial cells in ampullar and isthmic segments during the menstrual cycle. Our results suggest that these molecules could form part of the sperm-UT interactions.     Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia: An Observational Single-Center Study of 306 Cases

    Background: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a scarring alopecia that predominantly affects postmenopausal women; (2) Methods: A retrospective, observational, single-center study was conducted in the Hospital General Universitario in Ciudad Real, Spain, including all patients diagnosed with FFA between 2010 and 2021; (3) Results: A total of 306 patients (296 women and 10 men) were included in our study. The mean age of onset was 59.5 years. The severity of this disease was evenly distributed between mild (147 patients) and severe (149 patients) forms. There was a positive, statistically significant, medium correlation between the severity of the disease and its time of progression. Moreover, hypothyroidism was present in 70 patients (22.9%) and classic signs of concomitant lichen planopilaris were observed in just 30 patients (9.8%), while other forms of lichen planus were uncommon. The estimated prevalence in our population is 0.15% and the incidence is 15.47 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants; (4) Conclusions: The time of progression was positively correlated with the severity of FFA. However, the presence of clinical signs, such as inflammatory trichoscopic signs, was not associated with the progression of this condition

    Developing a practical guide for teaching histology: an evaluation of the didactic components

    The Didactic Guide is a valuable tool complementing and making learning more dynamic. It is done using creative didactic strategies that simulate the presence of the tutor and generate a dialogue in order to offer students different possibilities to improve their understanding and self-discovery learning.This way the student is the protagonist of his own learning process. In this context, is highly important to consider the self discovery learning as a goal facilitating significant learning. The use of practical guides enables students to manage their own time, goals, techniques, contents and evaluation. In medical histology teaching several models of didactic guides could be use, and they normally include numerous activities, text, questionnaires, pictures, and drawings that may enhance the effectiveness of this tool in the learning process. In this work we have evaluated the usefulnes of different sections of a histology didactic guide in order to determine the key sections that enhance the learning process in human histology. For this purpose, a practical histology guide was designed with different sections: message text, theoretical text, objectives, drawings, pictures, clinical cases, games, blank spaces for self notes and drawing and final self evaluation questions. First, a simple questionnaire was applied in 90 students enrolled in histology practical seccions to analyze the student´s perceptions and preferences related to the histology guide. Finally, for all questionnaires average results and standard deviations were calculated for each option and all participants, as well for each gender, separately. Comparisons were done for drawings vs drawing blank spaces, teoric content vs notes blank space, drawings vs pictures and for each gender separately using Mann-Whitney non-parametrical test. Our findings revealed that visual strategies such as images and pictures were considered to be more useful for learning histology in the practical session. Similary, the students rated the self evaluation questions and blank spaces for self notes and drawing to be more attractive to the students. However, texts with theoretical information, messages, objectives, and clinical cases revealed to be less useful for the students in the learning process of medical histology. Moreover, statistically significant differences between theoretical content vs notes blank space was observed. All these results point out the importance of including pictures and drawings in the practical guide accompained of blank spaces that allow the development of creativity and autonomy that lead the students into a self discovery learning. Interestingly the students do not appreciate the presence of theoretical background in the practical guide as relevant information for their academic formation in the practical session

    Chitosan conduits enriched with fibrin-collagen hydrogel with or without adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells for the repair of 15-mm-long sciatic nerve defect

    Hollow conduits of natural or synthetic origins have shown acceptable regeneration results in short nerve gap repair; however, results are still not comparable with the current gold standard technique “autografts”. Hollow conduits do not provide a successful regeneration outcome when it comes to critical nerve gap repair. Enriching the lumen of conduits with different extracellular materials and cells could provide a better biomimicry of the natural nerve regenerating environment and is expected to ameliorate the conduit performance. In this study, we evaluated nerve regeneration in vivo using hollow chitosan conduits or conduits enriched with fibrin-collagen hydrogels alone or with the further addition of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in a 15 mm rat sciatic nerve transection model. Unexpected changes in the hydrogel consistency and structural stability in vivo led to a failure of nerve regeneration after 15 weeks. Nevertheless, the molecular assessment in the early regeneration phase (7, 14, and 28 days) has shown an upregulation of useful regenerative genes in hydrogel enriched conduits compared with the hollow ones. Hydrogels composed of fibrin-collagen were able to upregulate the expression of soluble NRG1, a growth factor that plays an important role in Schwann cell transdifferentiation.
