[EN]: Species management should be based on accurate estimations on the size and density of the target population. In the case of the otter, these estimations are difficult to obtain due to their habitat, low densities and elusiveness, and these have relied mainly on surveys of animal signs or on specific ad hoc methods, and lately, in genotyping. We have applied newly-developed spatial capture-recapture model
to estimate the otter population of the Tablas de Daimiel National Park by a spatially explicit capturerecapture of unmarked individuals using camera trapping-data together with distance sampling. The density estimated is 0.557 (±0.317) otters/100 ha, and we have achieved reliable information about activity, movements, and space use.Peer Reviewe

Social Media is playing a key role in today's society. Many of the events that are taking place in diverse human activities could be explained by the study of these data. Big Data is a relatively new parading in Computer Science that is gaining increasing interest by the scientific community. Big Data Predictive Analytics is a Big Data discipline that is mostly used to analyze what is in the huge amounts of data and then perform predictions based on such analysis using advanced mathematics and computing techniques. The study of Social Media Data involves disciplines like Natural Language Processing, by the integration of this area to academic studies, useful findings have been achieved. Social Network Rating Systems are online platforms that allow users to know about goods and services, the way in how users review and rate their experience is a field of evolving research. This paper presents a deep investigation in the state of the art of these areas to discover and analyze the current status of the research that has been developed so far by academics of diverse background
Location identification using a magnetic-field-based FFT signature
User indoor positioning has been under constant improvement especially with the availability of new sensors integrated to the modern mobile devices. These sensory devices allow us to exploit not only infrastructures made for every day use, such as Wifi, but also natural infrastructure, as is the case of natural magnetic fields. In this work, we propose a novel approach that takes advantage of the benefits of using the magnetic sensor incorporated in most modern mobile devices, and the negligible variations of the Earth's magnetic field to position an individual with high accuracy. Most importantly, the methodology proposed allows us to avoid the burden of having to collect magnetic information in different directions in order to construct an accurate magnetic map, showing an improvement on methods that require the individuals to construct bigger magnetic maps that contain redundant information such as magnitude in different directions

Spain and the crisis: housing prices, credit, and macroprudential policies
In this paper, we propose a two-country, two sector monetary union DSGE model with housing. One of the countries is calibrated to represent the Spanish economy while the other one is the rest of the European monetary union. First, we illustrate how looser credit conditions coming from the Euro area, together with increases in housing demand, lead to an increase in house prices and credit in Spain. Then, we analyze to what extent, macroprudential policies could have avoided the excess in credit that triggered the financial crisis in Spain. We find that a countercyclical loan-to-value rule that mainly responds to house prices would have mitigated the credit boom in Spain. These results can also be applied to other countries facing similar problems in the housing sector and thinking about implementing macroprudential policies
On Real-Time AER 2-D Convolutions Hardware for Neuromorphic Spike-Based Cortical Processing
In this paper, a chip that performs real-time image
convolutions with programmable kernels of arbitrary shape is presented.
The chip is a first experimental prototype of reduced size
to validate the implemented circuits and system level techniques.
The convolution processing is based on the address–event-representation
(AER) technique, which is a spike-based biologically
inspired image and video representation technique that favors
communication bandwidth for pixels with more information. As
a first test prototype, a pixel array of 16x16 has been implemented
with programmable kernel size of up to 16x16. The
chip has been fabricated in a standard 0.35- m complimentary
metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) process. The technique also
allows to process larger size images by assembling 2-D arrays of
such chips. Pixel operation exploits low-power mixed analog–digital
circuit techniques. Because of the low currents involved (down
to nanoamperes or even picoamperes), an important amount of
pixel area is devoted to mismatch calibration. The rest of the
chip uses digital circuit techniques, both synchronous and asynchronous.
The fabricated chip has been thoroughly tested, both at
the pixel level and at the system level. Specific computer interfaces
have been developed for generating AER streams from conventional
computers and feeding them as inputs to the convolution
chip, and for grabbing AER streams coming out of the convolution
chip and storing and analyzing them on computers. Extensive
experimental results are provided. At the end of this paper, we
provide discussions and results on scaling up the approach for
larger pixel arrays and multilayer cortical AER systems.Commission of the European Communities IST-2001-34124 (CAVIAR)Commission of the European Communities 216777 (NABAB)Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TIC-2000-0406-P4Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TIC-2003-08164-C03-01Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TEC2006-11730-C03-01Junta de Andalucía TIC-141
This study examines the relationship between heavy alcohol consumption and behaviours that increase the risk for crash-related injuries, perception of risk and sensation seeking among adolescents. The population of Spanish students is represented by a sample covering the age groups of 13, 15 and 17 years-olds (n= 4.475). A proportional stratification and multistage sampling system was used. An anonymous questionnaire was completed by the students in class. Episodic heavy drinkers were significantly less, likely to use helmet while riding in a motorcycle and to respect traffic’ norms. Also, the frequency of drunkenness was negatively associated to the perceived risk of to drive a motorcycle after drinking alcohol or ride with a driver who had been drinking alcohol and use helmet while riding in a motorcycle or bicycle, and was positively associated to sensation seeking. This study indicates that adolescents who are alcohol users are more likely to behave in a manner which increases their risk for motor vehicle crashes
