Gaia, El Jardín de Edén, y los fundamentos míticos y culturales del Paraíso

Se parte de la hipótesis que identifica el jardín primordial con Gaia y los orígenes del ser humano. Tomando como punto de referencia esta hipótesis, se analiza el significado mítico, alegórico, simbólico, histórico y cultural del jardín de Edén o Paraíso. El trabajo se basa en textos de origen sumerio, bíblico, griego y coránico, así como en la repercusión de estos textos en la cultura artística y literaria occidental. A partir de estas fuentes se analizan tres aspectos básicos: la nostalgia del paraíso perdido, las ansias por recuperar ese paraíso en un futuro y, por último, la convicción de que el paraíso es un estado de conciencia actualizable en cualquier momento.The aim of this article is to understand the relationship between the primordial garden, on the one hand, and Gaia and the origins of the human being, on the other. Taking this hypothesis as a starting point, the mythical, allegorical, symbolic, historical and cultural meanings of the Garden of Eden are analysed. This work is based on Sumerian, Biblical, Greek and Koranic texts as well as their impact on Western artistic and literary culture. Drawing from these sources three basic aspects are analysed: the nostalgia for the lost paradise, the desire to return to paradise in the future and, finally, the conviction that paradise is a state of consciousness upgradeable at any time

Contabilidad y estereotipos: Un análisis comparativo de las percepciones de estudiantes Mexicanos

Both research and statements by stakeholders have notice the existence of the so called expectation performance gap, a divergence between the skills requirements to succeed in the accounting profession and the skills exhibited by graduates. Some authors point to a misinterpretation of required competencies by students, based on a stereotyped image of accounting that could lead to a possible self-selection bias. The main objective of this paper is study the perceptions on accounting in a sample of Mexican students enrolled in different degrees and courses. Our results, contrariwise to previous research, suggest that entry level students do not present a stereotyped perception on accounting and that those views do not differ substantially from other students at business of law degrees. Furthermore, our results do not support the negative effects of accounting education on students’ perceptions, at least for Mexican students.Tanto los posicionamientos de instituciones contables como los resultados de la investigación recogen la existencia del llamado gap de expectativas, una divergencia entre los requisitos en capacidades para tener éxito en la profesión contable y las capacidades que tienen los recién graduados. Algunos autores apuntan a una interpretación errónea de los requisitos profesionales por parte de los estudiantes, basada en una visión estereotipada de la contabilidad, lo que puede llevar a un sesgo de autoselección. El principal objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las percepciones sobre la contabilidad de una muestra de estudiantes mexicanos matriculados en distintas carreras y cursos. Nuestros resultados, al contrario de los obtenidos por otros trabajos sugieren que los estudiantes de nuevo ingreso no tienen una visióin estereotipada de la contabilidad y que esta visión no difiere sustancialmente de la de sus compañeros en carreras cercanas (administración de empresas y derecho). Aún más, los resultados no evidencian un empeoramiento de esta imagen debido al efecto de los primeros cursos en contabilidad, al menos para los alumnos en Méxic

Determination of combustion gas temperatures by infrared radiometry in sooting and nonsooting flames

Flame temperatures in nonsooting and sooting environments were successfully measured by radiometry for pre-mixed propane-oxygen laminar flames stabilized on a water-cooled, porous sintered-bronze burner. The measured temperatures in the nonsooting flames were compared with fine-wire thermocouple measurements. The results show excellent agreement below 1700 K, and when the thermocouple measurements were corrected for radiation effects, the agreement was good for even higher temperatures. The benefits of radiometry are: (1) the flow is not disturbed by an intruding probe, (2) calibration is easily done using a blackbody source, and (3) measurements can be made even with soot present. The theory involved in the radiometry measurements and the energy balance calculations used to correct the thermocouple temperature measurements are discussed

Fuel-rich catalytic combustion of Jet-A fuel-equivalence ratios 5.0 to 8.0

Fuel-rich catalytic combustion (E.R. greater than 5.0) is a unique technique for preheating a hydrocarbon fuel to temperatures much higher than those obtained by conventional heat exchangers. In addition to producing very reactive molecules, the process upgrades the structure of the fuel by the formation of hydrogen and smaller hydrocarbons and produces a cleaner burning fuel by removing some of the fuel carbon from the soot formation chain. With fuel-rich catalytic combustion as the first stage of a two stage combustion system, enhanced fuel properties can be utilized by both high speed engines, where time for ignition and complete combustion is limited, and engines where emission of thermal NO sub x is critical. Two-stage combustion (rich-lean) has been shown to be effective for NO sub x reduction in stationary burners where residence times are long enough to burn-up the soot formed in the first stage. Such residence times are not available in aircraft engines. Thus, the soot-free nature of the present process is critical for high speed engines. Purposeful Humour: Laughter and Ethnicity in Michele Serros' How to Be a Chicana Role Model.

El/la Chicano/a vive en contacto con dos culturas diferentes: la mexicana y la anglo-americana. Así, la Chicanidad se suele definir en términos de dualidad, fluidez, transculturalidad, alteridad, mestizaje (Anzaldúa) o hibridez (Bhabha). En última instancia, sin embargo, la identidad étnica se basa en una concepción abierta que depende de la performatividad de cada individuo. El humor puede aprovechar el carácter artificial de la Chicanidad para de-construir y redefinir los parámetros que la limitan, funcionando pues como una herramienta fundamental para la transformación individual y colectiva. Múltiples teorías sobre los mecanismos del humor (teoría de la descarga y de la incongruencia, lo carnavalesco, la “antiretórica” del humor [Gilbert] y la sympathy theory [O’Donnell]) revelan la utilidad de la risa como estrategia terapéutica, como instrumento para el diálogo intercultural y para el cambio social, y como una forma de resistencia. Este trabajo presta atención a los modos en los que Michele Serros emplea el humor con fines sociales en How to Be a Chicana Role Model (2000). La escritora fomenta el diálogo intra- e intercultural, promueve el sentimiento de comunidad, y desestabiliza suposiciones racistas. Con respeto a este último caso, se prestará especial atención al uso de la ironía y la imitación burlesca de discursos racistas. El ensayo llega a la conclusión de que, por medio de un género cómico, Serros entra en la cultura popular y se presenta como sujeto defendiendo la libertad de definirse a sí misma.<br /

An Improvement Proposal of the “Crime” Unit Plan

In the present empirical paper I have carried out an improvement proposal of the “Crime” unit plan. The mentioned plan was created to meet the specification of the Practicum II period. However, it did not occur in ordinary circumstances as it was affected by the health alert situation. Hence, the “Crime” unit plan was mainly made up by individual activities which did not fostered communication nor interaction or cooperative and collaborative work. Therefore, the aim of the dissertation is to create an improved unit plan which places communication at is center in order to comply with the specifications stated by the Aragonese Curriculum and the CLT approach.<br /

Sequence of Germ Cells Differentiation During Spermiogenesis of the Amphibian Urodele Ambystoma dumerilii

The spermatogenesis, including the spermiogenesis, in Urodeles contains the meiotic process and the morphological differentiation of the spermatids developing the spermatozoa as in the rest of vertebrates. However, in Urodeles, there are essential differences in the structure of the testis, as a lobular structure; the distribution of the spermatogenic cells, in cephalocaudal progression in the testis; and the cystic condition of the developing spermatogenic cells in synchronous groups bounded by Sertoli cells. All the spermatogenic cells are situated in parallel position with the heads directed to the same side. The big size and elongated morphology of the spermatozoa also characterized this type of spermiogenesis. Spermiation occurs at the caudal portion of the testis to the efferent duct system, which includes the mesonephric nephrones
