Effect of silicon content on the catalytic behavior of chabazite type silicoaluminophosphate in the transformation of methanol to short chain olefins

    Get PDF
AlPO-34 and SAPO-34 molecular sieves with different silicon content have been synthesized using a hydrothermal system in presence of tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) and evaluated as catalysts for the transformation of methanol to short chain olefins. The results showed that SAPO-34 materials prepared with medium-high silicon concentration in the framework present quite similar silicon environment distributions and, when it is so, the key factor to obtain materials with improved catalytic performance is the crystallite size.Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation: Project MAT2009-13569Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation: Project MAT2012-31127CSIC for a JAE PhD grant.Peer reviewe

Comparative study of trusses to determine the influence of the geometry in the structural efficiency, according to the directions of the principal stresses : Part II

    Get PDF
Congreso celebrado en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Sevilla desde el 24 hasta el 26 de junio de 2015.This study compares flat lattice girders mounted on two supports, based on various design parameters, to determine which have better structural performance and what geometries are more efficient. The fundamental goal is to determine the relationship of performance and structural behaviour of each type of framework structure, with respect to the principle of optimization and improvement in the efficiency of the trusses if their geometry adapts to the directions of the principal stresses and, of course, to the trajectory of the isostatic lines of the equivalent continuous structural resistant element under the loading actions. In this study, 256 models of lattice girders, with different triangulations, are analyzed to determine their performance and structural behaviour. The results conclude that the trusses gain up to 25-35% efficiency when they identify the trajectory of the isostatic lines generates by the acting loads

Gibbs-Donnan and specific ion interaction theory descriptions of the effect of ionic strength on proton dissociation of alginic acid

    Get PDF
The apparent proton dissociation constants of a commercial alginic acid have been obtained in KNO3 and NaCl at concentrations ranging between 0.01 and 2 mol·L-1. An analysis of the dependence on the ionic strength at a constant value of the dissociation degree was done by means of empirical functions derived from the Gibbs-Donnan formalism for polyelectrolytes and a specific ion interaction theory (SIT). Both functions were able to fit the experimental data, although SIT yielded rather high errors in the fitted parameters due to a problem of multicollinearity, in contrast to the function derived from the Gibbs-Donnan approach. This work was funded by the projects BQU2002-02133 (from the Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología of Spain) and PGDIT02TAM10302PR (from the Xunta de Galicia). Growing underground: Development of thermogenesis in pups of the fossorial rodent Ctenomys talarum

    Get PDF
In mammals, during the pup’s development and adult life, integrated requirements of all activities of the individual must conform to a sustained rate of metabolism. Thus, partitioning the available energy according to short-term priorities at a specific moment allows animals to survive and optimize long-term reproductive success. In altricial rodents, thermal balance is a key factor for survival. When no exogenous source of heat is present, altricial pups rapidly lose heat, reaching ambient temperature (Ta). Fossorial rodents showed a strong dependence on burrows, where Ta remains relatively stable within narrow ranges. Pups of the fossorial rodent Ctenomys talarum are altricial, making them an excellent model to evaluate the development of thermogenic capacity. In this study, the ontogeny of the thermogenic capacity of pups of C. talarum was evaluated. Using respirometry techniques, non-shivering thermogenesis (NST), total thermogenic capacity (cold-induced maximum metabolic rate, MMR), and resting metabolic rate (RMR) in pups until post-weaning age (day 60) were analyzed. No NST was present in pups until day 60 despite the presence of molecular markers for NST in brown adipose tissue deposits, which became functional in adults. Although pups are altricial at birth, they maintain their thermal balance behaviorally during lactation. Total thermogenic capacity became fixed at an early age, indicating an improvement in shivering thermogenesis (ST) efficiency after day 10, which might be related to the development of musculature related to digging. Before the aboveground dispersal period (~day 60), pups gradually reached adult Tb by improving ST and thermal isolation, allowing them to confront climatic fluctuations on the surface.Fil: Luna, Facundo.
