Ontology driven description and engineering of autonomous systems: application to process system engineering

    Get PDF
Autonomous systems refer to systems capable of operating in a real world environment without any form of external control for extended periods of time. Autonomy is a desired goal for every system as it improves its performance, safety and profit. Ontologies are a way to conceptualize the knowledge of a specific domain. In this paper an ontology for the description of autonomous systems as well as for its development (engineering) is presented and applied to a process. This ontology is intended to be applied and used to generate final applications following a model driven methodology

Engineering an Ontology for Autonomous Systems - The OASys Ontology

    Get PDF
This paper describes the development of an ontology for autonomous systems, as the initial stage of a research programe on autonomous systems’ engineering within a model-based control approach. The ontology aims at providing a unified conceptual framework for the autonomous systems’ stakeholders, from developers to software engineers. The modular ontology contains both generic and domain-specific concepts for autonomous systems description and engineering. The ontology serves as the basis in a methodology to obtain the autonomous system’s conceptual models. The objective is to obtain and to use these models as main input for the autonomous system’s model-based control system

SOWCompact: A federated process mining method for social workflows

    Get PDF
The growing informatization of the environment allows modeling people’s behavior as a social workflow, where both individual actions and interactions with other people are captured. This modelling includes actions that are part of an individual’s routine, as well as less frequent events. Although infrequent actions may provide relevant information, it is routine behaviors that characterize users. However, the extraction of this knowledge is not simple. There are problems when analyzing together large amounts of traces from many users, resulting into a social workflow that does not clearly depict their behavior, either individually or as a group. Tools that allow grouping/filtering of users with a common behavior pattern are needed, to analyze each of these groups separately. This study presents the federated process mining and an associated tool, SOWCompact. Its potential is validated through the case study called activities of daily living (ADL). Using federated process mining, along with current process mining techniques, more compact processes using only the social workflow’s most relevant information are obtained, while allowing the analysis of these social workflows.Universidad de Málaga. Correlator implementation for orthogonal CSS used in an ultrasonic LPS

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new architecture for the correlation of orthogonal complementary sets of sequences (OCSS) and their performance in an ultrasonic local positioning system (U-LPS). OCSS are sets of sequences whose addition of correlation functions has ideal properties, that makes interference-free code-division multiple access (CDMA) possible. They can be used to encode the signals emitted by a CDMA based U-LPS, enhancing the performance of such systems in terms of immunity against noise, multipath propagation, and near-far effect. Also, the orthogonality of the codes offers an operation resistance to multiaccess interference, which endows the U-LPS with the capability of simultaneous emission from different beacons. On the other hand, the detection of OCSS codes can be performed by means of efficient algorithms. This paper presents an optimization of previous proposals allowing the simultaneous correlation of OCSS by using fewer operations and memory elements. Furthermore, the hardware implementation of the proposed optimization is also addressed, and an U-LPS based on this proposal is presented.Fil: Peréz Rubio, M. Carmen. MicroPulse Lidar and Ceilometer inter-comparison during Saharan dust intrusions over the Canary Islands

Comunicación presentada en: V Reunión Española de Ciencia y Tecnología de Aerosoles – RECTA 2011 celebrada del 27 al 29 de junio de 2011 en CIEMAT, Madrid. This study presents an inter-comparison between a Vaisala CL51 ceilometer and a Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL) of both the Boundary Layer (BL) and the Saharan Air Layer (SAL) top heights during Saharan dust events from January to April 2011. This inter-comparison was performed at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Observatory in Tenerife, Canary Islands, within the Marine Boundary Layer. From January to April the Saharan dust intrusions usually occur at lower altitudes within the BL. One of the main goals of this study is to determine whether the CL51 ceilometer is capable to detect mineral dust within the SAL. To our knowledge, this is the first time this kind of study is attempted on a site close to Saharan dust sources

Advanced monitoring of rail breakage in double-track railway lines by means of PCA techniques

    Get PDF
This work describes a classifier designed to identify rail breakages in double-track railway lines, completing the electronic equipment carried out by authors. The main objective of this proposal is to guarantee the integrity of tracks before the railway traffic starts working. In addition, it facilitates maintenance tasks providing information about possible breakages. The detection of breakages is based on the analysis of eight currents provided by the electronic equipment, one per rail, at the ends of the section (emitting and receiving nodes). The imbalance that occurs among the value of these currents implies that there is at least a breakage in the track section under analysis. This analysis is conducted according to three phases. The first one identifies whether there is a breakage, and, in that case, the damaged track is identified. The second phase provides information about which rail is broken (internal, external or both of them) in the previously identified track. Finally, if there is only one breakage, the third phase estimates its most likely zone along the track section. This situation is considered as a classification problem, and solved by means of the Principal Component Analysis technique. This means that a significant number of measurements is required for every breakage pattern (types of breakages) to be considered. Due to the difficulty of having real data, the proposal has been validated using an 8km-long double-track hardware simulator specially designed by the authors, with specific localizations for breakages
