Bioinformatics approaches applied to the discovery of antifungal peptides
Antifungal peptides (AFPs) comprise a group of substances with a broad spectrum of activities and complex action mechanisms. They develop in nature via an evolutionary process resulting from the interactions between hosts and pathogens. The AFP database is experimentally verified and curated from research articles, patents, and public databases. In this review, we compile information about the primary databases and bioinformatics tools that have been used in the discovery of AFPs during the last 15 years. We focus on the classification and prediction of AFPs using different physicochemical properties, such as polarity, hydrophobicity, hydrophilicity, mass, acidic, basic, and isoelectric indices, and other structural properties. Another method for discovering AFPs is the implementation of a peptidomic approach and bioinformatics filtering, which gave rise to a new family of peptides that exhibit a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans with low hemolytic effects. The application of machine intelligence in the sphere of biological sciences has led to the development of automated tools. The progress made in this area has also paved the way for producing new drugs more quickly and effectively. However, we also identified that further advancements are still needed to complete the AFP libraries
Optics outreach activities with elementary school kids from public education in Mexico
This work shows the results obtained from the “O4K” Project supported by International Society for Optics and Photonis
(SPIE) and the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) through its SPIE Student Chapter and the Dr. Juan

Undergraduate and graduate students designed Optics representative activities using easy-access materials that allow the
interaction of children with optics over the exploration, observation and experimentation, taking as premise that the best
way to learn Science is the interaction with it. Several activities were realized through the 2011-2013 events with 1,600
kids with ages from 10 to 12; the results were analyzed using surveys. One of the principal conclusions is that in most of

El presente documento es una recopilación de experiencias que fueron parte del I Encuentro Internacional de Patrimonio Cultural celebrado en la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios – UNIMINUTO en septiembre del 2019; así como de otros aportes de investigadores colombianos a la comprensión de temas relacionados con la tradición, la cultura, la memoria y el ecosistema natural en el cual como humanos nos desenvolvemos. Los aportes tienen origen en reflexiones de diferentes países desde Argentina hasta Canadá y cumple con el propósito de realizar un diálogo multidisciplinar de los aspectos que componen el patrimonio cultural en el continente americano
Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory
A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding
eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers
with zenith angles greater than detected with the Pierre Auger
Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum
confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above
eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law with
index followed by
a smooth suppression region. For the energy () at which the
spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence
of suppression, we find

Energy Estimation of Cosmic Rays with the Engineering Radio Array of the Pierre Auger Observatory
The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) is part of the Pierre Auger
Observatory and is used to detect the radio emission of cosmic-ray air showers.
These observations are compared to the data of the surface detector stations of
the Observatory, which provide well-calibrated information on the cosmic-ray
energies and arrival directions. The response of the radio stations in the 30
to 80 MHz regime has been thoroughly calibrated to enable the reconstruction of
the incoming electric field. For the latter, the energy deposit per area is
determined from the radio pulses at each observer position and is interpolated
using a two-dimensional function that takes into account signal asymmetries due
to interference between the geomagnetic and charge-excess emission components.
The spatial integral over the signal distribution gives a direct measurement of
the energy transferred from the primary cosmic ray into radio emission in the
AERA frequency range. We measure 15.8 MeV of radiation energy for a 1 EeV air
shower arriving perpendicularly to the geomagnetic field. This radiation energy
-- corrected for geometrical effects -- is used as a cosmic-ray energy
estimator. Performing an absolute energy calibration against the
surface-detector information, we observe that this radio-energy estimator
scales quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy as expected for coherent
emission. We find an energy resolution of the radio reconstruction of 22% for
the data set and 17% for a high-quality subset containing only events with at

Gestión del conocimiento. Perspectiva multidisciplinaria
El libro “Gestión del Conocimiento. Perspectiva Multidisciplinaria”, es una publicación internacional, seriada, continua, arbitrada de acceso abierto a todas las áreas del conocimiento, es el esfuerzo de investigadores de varios países del mundo, orientada a contribuir con procesos de gestión del conocimiento científico, tecnológico y humanístico que consoliden la transformación del conocimiento en diferentes escenarios, tanto organizacionales como universitarios, para el desarrollo de habilidades cognitivas del quehacer diario.
En este sentido, partiendo de los aportes teóricos y prácticos que presentan los autores, resultados de sus trabajos de investigación, análisis de diversas teorías, propuestas, enfoques, así como experiencias que se han dado a nivel del tema de gestión del conocimiento, presentamos a la comunidad internacional el libro Gestión del conocimiento. Perspectivas multidisciplinarias, que permitirá un mayor conocimiento y aplicación de estos conceptos, traduciéndose en una mejor aplicación y posicionamiento de las organizaciones en la utilización del conocimiento, la apropiación y transformación del mismo
Measurement of the Radiation Energy in the Radio Signal of Extensive Air Showers as a Universal Estimator of Cosmic-Ray Energy
We measure the energy emitted by extensive air showers in the form of radio
emission in the frequency range from 30 to 80 MHz. Exploiting the accurate
energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory, we obtain a radiation energy of
15.8 \pm 0.7 (stat) \pm 6.7 (sys) MeV for cosmic rays with an energy of 1 EeV
arriving perpendicularly to a geomagnetic field of 0.24 G, scaling
quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy. A comparison with predictions from
state-of-the-art first-principle calculations shows agreement with our
measurement. The radiation energy provides direct access to the calorimetric
energy in the electromagnetic cascade of extensive air showers. Comparison with
our result thus allows the direct calibration of any cosmic-ray radio detector
against the well-established energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory.Comment: Replaced with published version. Added journal reference and DOI.
