Clupdate: uno strumento per l'aggiornamento del cluster Arcosu

Per permettere l’aggiornamento degli host con i file presenti nell’archivio, è stato creato il programma Clupdate. CLUPDATE_ROOT, con le sue sottodirectory, rispecchia la struttura stessa del cluster. Ogni host è presente o con una sua sottodirectory oppure in quanto appartenente a una categoria (gruppo di host) con una propria sottodirectory. Clupdate si utilizza specificando la destinazione (come un host o una categoria di host), un file da trasferire (o una cartella o un "glob", cioè "path" con "wild cards") e delle opzioni di funzionamento (copia ricorsiva dei file, crea backup dei file sostituiti etc).Given a file that describes the hierarchy of precedence between computer names and category names, and give a directory in which each subdirectory corresponds to a computer or a catergory (a set of computers), and assuming that the hierarchy has a tree structure, manipulates information concerning the hierarchy and concerning the files found in the subdirectories

System for backup on redundant fileservers

A pair of computers have been configured as redundant file servers. These computers are also used to backup files. User files, exported using NFS, are placed on fast hard disks (type SCSI), whereas much larger, though slower hard disks (type SATA) are used for backup of these files. Formation of extended polyiodides at large cation templates

By studying the structures of (μ-1,4,10,13-tetra­thia-7,16-di­aza­cyclo­octa­deca­ne)bis[iodidopalladium(II)] diiodide penta­(diiodine), [Pd2I2(C12H26N2S4)](I)2·5I2 or [Pd2I2([18]aneN2S4)](I)2·(I2)5, and 4,7,13,16,21,24-hexa­oxa-1,10-diazo­niabi­cyclo­[8.8.8]hexa­cosane triiodide iodide hemi­penta­(diiodine) di­chloro­methane mono­solvate, C18H38N2O62+·I3−·I−·2.5I2·CH2Cl2 or [H2([2.2.2]cryptand)](I3)(I)(I2)2.5·CH2Cl2, we confirm the structural variety of extended polyiodides achievable upon changing the shape, charge and dimensions of the cation template, by altering the synthetic strategy adopted and/or the experimental conditions. Although it is still often difficult to characterize discrete [I2m+n]n− polyiodides higher than I3− on the basis of structural parameters, such as I—I bond distances, FT–Raman spectroscopy appears to identify them as aggregates of I2, I− and (symmetric or slightly asymmetric) I3− building blocks linked by I⋯I inter­actions of varying strengths. However, because FT–Raman spectroscopy carries no information about the topological features of extended polyiodides, the two techniques should therefore be applied in combination to enhance the analysis of this kind of compounds

Geographic Clusters of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis

Genetic and environmental factors have been widely suggested to contribute to the pathogenesis of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), an autoimmune disease of unknown etiology leading to destruction of small bile ducts. Interestingly, epidemiologic data indicate a variable prevalence of the disease in different geographical areas. The study of clusters of PBC may provide clues as to possible triggers in the induction of immunopathology. We report herein four such unique PBC clusters that suggest the presence of both genetic and environmental factors in the induction of PBC. The first cluster is represented by a family of ten siblings of Palestinian origin that have an extraordinary frequency of PBC (with 5/8 sisters having the disease). Second, we describe the cases of a husband and wife, both having PBC. A family in which PBC was diagnosed in two genetically unrelated individuals, who lived in the same household, represents the third cluster. Fourth, we report a high prevalence of PBC cases in a very small area in Alaska. Although these data are anedoctal, the study of a large number of such clusters may provide a tool to estimate the roles of genetics and environment in the induction of autoimmunity

Second-generation antipsychotic and diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents

Second generation antipsychotics (SGA) are used in children for the treatment of various psychiatric diseases, including pervasive developmental disorders. These drugs can cause metabolic effects as hyperglycemia and diabetes. A 16-year-old young-boy, diagnosed with autism, developed diabetes mellitus type 1 whilst he was on treatment with olanzapine (started 4 months before), clomipramine, valproic acid and lithium. The hypothesis of druginduced diabetes imposed olanzapine interruption and clozapine initiation. Insulin therapy was practiced, with progressive dosage reduction, until complete cessation of treatment after 13 months. Blood sugar and HbA1c levels remained stable for about a year and then increased again, requiring the introduction of metformin that improved glycemia. In children and adolescents assuming SGA serum glucose and lipid profile should always be assessed before therapy and then frequently monitored. Drug selection must consider family history and the individual risk. Molecule final choice remains equilibrium between efficacy and safety
