    Utilização da farinha de arroz na elaboração de sobremesa

    Este trabalho teve por objetivo elaborar um produto alimentício similar a “flan” sabor chocolate utilizando como base a farinha de arroz. A matéria-prima utilizada foi cedida por empresa processadora da região e caracterizada quanto a distribuição granulométrica, teores de umidade, proteína, cinzas, gordura, carboidratos, fibras, massa específica, índice de absorção e de solubilidade. Observou-se que a fração de 270 mesh da farinha pré-gelatinizada demonstrou ser a mais adequada para a elaboração do produto, pois apresentou maior homogeneidade e facilidade de preparo. Duas formulações de flan foram submetidas à avaliação sensorial utilizando testes de preferência e aceitação, segundo uma escala hedônica e de atitude de nove pontos, respectivamente. Por meio dessa análise verificou-se que AS formulações não apresentaram diferenças significativas quanto à aceitabilidade e preferência, quando comparadas a um produto comercial similar utilizado como padrão, evidenciando o potencial da farinha de arroz para elaboração de produto alimentício similar a flan.     COVID-19-Associated Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children and Cardiovascular Autonomic Control: A Prospective Cohort Study Nine Months after SARS-CoV-2 Infection

    Background: Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) has emerged as a severe pediatric complication during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, with potential long-term cardiovascular repercussions. We hypothesized that heart rate and blood pressure control at rest and during postural maneuvers in MIS-C patients, months after the remission of the inflammatory syndrome, may reveal long-term autonomic dysfunctions. Methods: We assessed 17 MIS-C patients (13 males; 11.9 +/- 2.6 years, m +/- SD) 9 months after acute infection and 18 age- (12.5 +/- 2.1 years) and sex- (13 males) matched controls. Heart rate and blood pressure variability, baroreflex function, and hemodynamic parameters were analyzed in supine and standing postures. Results: MIS-C patients exhibited reduced heart rate variability, particularly in parasympathetic parameters during standing (pNN50+: 6.1 +/- 6.4% in controls, 2.5 +/- 3.9% in MIS-C; RMSSD: 34 +/- 19 ms in controls, 21 +/- 14 ms in MIS-C, p < 0.05), with no interaction between case and posture. Blood pressure variability and baroreflex sensitivity did not differ between groups except for the high-frequency power in systolic blood pressure (3.3 +/- 1.2 mmHg(2) in controls, 1.8 +/- 1.2 mmHg(2) in MIS-C, p < 0.05). The MIS-C group also showed lower diastolic pressure-time indices (DPTI) and systolic pressure-time indices (SPTI), particularly in standing (DPTI: 36.2 +/- 9.4 mmHgs in controls, 29.4 +/- 6.2 mmHgs in MIS-C; SPTI: 26.5 +/- 4.3 mmHgs in controls, 23.9 +/- 2.4 mmHgs in MIS-C, p < 0.05). Conclusions: Altered cardiovascular autonomic control may persist in MIS-C patients with, however, compensatory mechanisms that may help maintain cardiovascular homeostasis during light autonomic challenges, such as postural maneuvers. These results highlight the importance of assessing long-term cardiovascular autonomic control in children with MIS-C to possibly identify residual cardiovascular risks and inform targeted interventions and rehabilitation protocols

    A Low-Dose CT-Based Radiomic Model to Improve Characterization and Screening Recall Intervals of Indeterminate Prevalent Pulmonary Nodules.

    Lung cancer (LC) is currently one of the main causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) of the chest has been proven effective in secondary prevention (i.e., early detection) of LC by several trials. In this work, we investigated the potential impact of radiomics on indeterminate prevalent pulmonary nodule (PN) characterization and risk stratification in subjects undergoing LDCT-based LC screening. As a proof-of-concept for radiomic analyses, the first aim of our study was to assess whether indeterminate PNs could be automatically classified by an LDCT radiomic classifier as solid or sub-solid (first-level classification), and in particular for sub-solid lesions, as non-solid versus part-solid (second-level classification). The second aim of the study was to assess whether an LCDT radiomic classifier could automatically predict PN risk of malignancy, and thus optimize LDCT recall timing in screening programs. Model performance was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, sensitivity, and specificity. The experimental results showed that an LDCT radiomic machine learning classifier can achieve excellent performance for characterization of screen-detected PNs (mean AUC of 0.89 ± 0.02 and 0.80 ± 0.18 on the blinded test dataset for the first-level and second-level classifiers, respectively), providing quantitative information to support clinical management. Our study showed that a radiomic classifier could be used to optimize LDCT recall for indeterminate PNs. According to the performance of such a classifier on the blinded test dataset, within the first 6 months, 46% of the malignant PNs and 38% of the benign ones were identified, improving early detection of LC by doubling the current detection rate of malignant nodules from 23% to 46% at a low cost of false positives. In conclusion, we showed the high potential of LDCT-based radiomics for improving the characterization and optimizing screening recall intervals of indeterminate PNs

    Se apunta a producir conocimientos básicos sobre las condiciones de reproducción de los pequeños productores familiares en la frontera agraria de Misiones, una de las áreas de mayor pobreza de la Argentina. El objetivo general es analizar el campo del desarrollo rural y los conflictos actuales por la tenencia de la tierra en la etapa de cierre de la frontera agraria, identificando los actores intervinientes (agencias estatales, ONGs, pequeños productores y terratenientes) y los ejes que lo estructuran. Se estudiarán los procesos actuales de ocupación de tierras fiscales y privadas y las diversas formas de explotación, especialmente con relación a la creación de reservas ambientales (corredor verde, y biosfera Yabotí). Se describirá la dinámica de la explotación familiar en conexión con sus prácticas reproductivas y los modos en que se expresan las obligaciones domésticas en el contexto actual de restricción del acceso a la tierra. Se analizarán los estilos de intervención, las tecnologías intelectuales y los modos de comunicación de las diferentes agencias de desarrollo —estatales y nogubernamentales— y de los grupos ecologistas, así como la capacidad de agencia de los pequeños agricultores, atendiendo a sus acciones organizativas (asociaciones, ferias francas, grupos de crédito, etc.)

    Computerized Neuropsychological Assessment in Aging: Testing Efficacy and Clinical Ecology of Different Interfaces

    Digital technologies have opened new opportunities for psychological testing, allowing new computerized testing tools to be developed and/or paper and pencil testing tools to be translated to new computerized devices. The question that rises is whether these implementations may introduce some technology-specific effects to be considered in neuropsychological evaluations. Two core aspects have been investigated in this work: the efficacy of tests and the clinical ecology of their administration (the ability to measure real-world test performance), specifically (1) the testing efficacy of a computerized test when response to stimuli is measured using a touch-screen compared to a conventional mouse-control response device; (2) the testing efficacy of a computerized test with respect to different input modalities (visual versus verbal); and (3) the ecology of two computerized assessment modalities (touch-screen and mouse-control), including preference measurements of participants. Our results suggest that (1) touch-screen devices are suitable for administering experimental tasks requiring precise timings for detection, (2) intrinsic nature of neuropsychological tests should always be respected in terms of stimuli presentation when translated to new digitalized environment, and (3) touch-screen devices result in ecological instruments being proposed for the computerized administration of neuropsychological tests with a high level of preference from elderly people

    Pediatric tuberculosis in Italian children: Epidemiological and clinical data from the Italian register of pediatric tuberculosis

    Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Over the last decades, TB has also emerged in the pediatric population. Epidemiologic data of childhood TB are still limited and there is an urgent need of more data on very large cohorts. A multicenter study was conducted in 27 pediatric hospitals, pediatric wards, and public health centers in Italy using a standardized form, covering the period of time between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2012. Children with active TB, latent TB, and those recently exposed to TB or recently adopted/immigrated from a high TB incidence country were enrolled. Overall, 4234 children were included; 554 (13.1%) children had active TB, 594 (14.0%) latent TB and 3086 (72.9%) were uninfected. Among children with active TB, 481 (86.8%) patients had pulmonary TB. The treatment of active TB cases was known for 96.4% (n = 534) of the cases. Overall, 210 (39.3%) out of these 534 children were treated with three and 216 (40.4%) with four first-line drugs. Second-line drugs where used in 87 (16.3%) children with active TB. Drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis were reported in 39 (7%) children. Improving the surveillance of childhood TB is important for public health care workers and pediatricians. A non-negligible proportion of children had drug-resistant TB and was treated with second-line drugs, most of which are off-label in the pediatric age. Future efforts should concentrate on improving active surveillance, diagnostic tools, and the availability of antitubercular pediatric formulations, also in low-endemic countries

    The rapid spread of SARS-COV-2 Omicron variant in Italy reflected early through wastewater surveillance

    The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant emerged in South Africa in November 2021, and has later been identified worldwide, raising serious concerns. A real-time RT-PCR assay was designed for the rapid screening of the Omicron variant, targeting characteristic mutations of the spike gene. The assay was used to test 737 sewage samples collected throughout Italy (19/21 Regions) between 11 November and 25 December 2021, with the aim of assessing the spread of the Omicron variant in the country. Positive samples were also tested with a real-time RT-PCR developed by the European Commission, Joint Research Centre (JRC), and through nested RT-PCR followed by Sanger sequencing. Overall, 115 samples tested positive for Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant. The first occurrence was detected on 7 December, in Veneto, North Italy. Later on, the variant spread extremely fast in three weeks, with prevalence of positive wastewater samples rising from 1.0% (1/104 samples) in the week 5–11 December, to 17.5% (25/143 samples) in the week 12–18, to 65.9% (89/135 samples) in the week 19–25, in line with the increase in cases of infection with the Omicron variant observed during December in Italy. Similarly, the number of Regions/Autonomous Provinces in which the variant was detected increased fromone in the first week, to 11 in the second, and to 17 in the last one. The presence of the Omicron variant was confirmed by the JRC real-time RT-PCR in 79.1% (91/115) of the positive samples, and by Sanger sequencing in 66% (64/97) of PCR amplicons
