In order to guarantee safe handling of a combustible liquid, such as biodiesel, it is important to be aware of its Flash Point (FP). Thus, the present study focused on FP experimental measurement and thermodynamic correlation of binary and ternary mixtures of saturated or unsaturated fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) as surrogates for biodiesel. FP of different types of ethylic biodiesel in terms of feedstock (canola, corn, cotton and soy oils) were also measured and compared with the predicted values. Experiments were carried out in agreement with the standard closed cup procedure ASTM D6450. Liaw’s model was applied to FP prediction, with liquid phase non-ideality description accounted for by UNIFAC group contribution models (Original UNIFAC, UNIFAC-Dortmund and UNIFAC-Bessa with revised parameters for fats). FP prediction accounting for non-ideality proved to be accurate, with some difference between the UNIFAC type models and Root Mean Square Deviations (RMSD) varying from 0.27 K to 3.95 K for binary and ternary mixtures

This study aims to analyze business initiatives to combat COVID-19, facing the problem of disinformation, to reflect on the public impact of organizational communication. Based on a theoretical foundation to contextualize the debate, we did a Critical Discourse Analysis of the initial communication strategies of the Unidos Pela Vacina (United for Vaccines) movement. The results suggest questions about the boundary between business and public interests in companies’ social impact actions.

The Covid-19 pandemic impacted many social spheres and demanded immediate transformations in society. Organizations needed to reinvent themselves quickly in several aspects, such as their internal practices, as well as in the way of relating to their various publics. This evidenced the interdependence between business organizations and society, requiring them to act for collective interests. In view of this, it is observed that these organizations are assuming a public character, being important to think about how they get involved with society and what are the impacts for social, political, cultural and economic realities. For this, organizational communication has an important role because it is able to act in the public sphere with regard to the promotion of debates that can impact collective attitudes, considering that organizations occupy a strategic position to direct issues that influence social behavior. As a communicative phenomenon, they disseminate ideas, values, and information that influences society, mainly because of their centrality in the daily lives of individuals. So, facing the pandemic scenario, there are numerous corporate actions that aim to serve the public interest, such as the initiative “Todos pela Saúde” (All for Health), an alliance between several organizations. This initiative was chosen as the object of study for contributing to the objective of this paper: analyzes the public role of organizational communication by assuming that communication strategies can generate an impact on public interests in face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The movement aims to mitigate the effects caused by the virus by supporting public health actions promoted by SUS (“Sistema Único de Saúde”- Health Unic System), contributing with solutions and financial support to the public authorities. The “Todos pela Saúde” is coordinated by a group of specialists from the health area that guide the decisions to be made to face the virus with scientific basis. Therefore, as a methodological procedure was adopted three ways: a bibliographic research aiming to investigate about the role of the communications from private organizations in the pandemic context; a documentary research of the “All for Health” medias; and the media discourse analysis (Charaudeau, 2005; 2006) and the dialogic aspects (Bakhtin, 2002; 2003) from the material released by the Initiative. As part of the results, it is observed that the strategies used, at least from the point of view of organizational communication, were innovative in producing something new in their narratives, because the organizations adopted a unison speech in favor of fighting the virus without political or commercial interest. Another highlight is the language strategies used, which seek to value the public in the enunciative act. The consequence is an unusual gender in organizational communication, the educative one. Undoubtedly, it is not possible to ignore the marketing objectives from this Initiative. However, it is important to understand organizational communication as a phenomenon of collective construction and reconstruction that influences the individuals, as well as guide the formation of society.

The present article aims to analyze whether the intention of an organization, when informing their actions during a crisis, is merely work for its image and reputation or a manner of guaranteeing the right to information to society. To this end, with the assumption that information is a fundamental element to every citizen, and when any risky situation brings consequences and impacts to society, the right to information must be guaranteed. Taking that premise into account, this study gives thoughts on the ways in which mining company Samarco communicated with the Brazilian population on the Internet, after the failure of the tailing dam in the city of Mariana (Minas Gerais, Brazil) in 2015. In this regard, the contents available on the company's institutional website were analyzed and some aspects of the reputation strategies and the importance of the right to information to society during the fallout of a crisis were identifiedO presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar se a intenção de uma organização, ao informar suas ações durante uma crise, é um mero trabalho para sua imagem e reputação ou é uma forma de garantir o direito à informação para a sociedade.

This article proposes a metaphorical reflection on the communicational phenomenon in the organizational context to understand that organizations are constituted and in the constant transformation from communication. For this, an exploratory theoretical bibliographic study was developed considering the nexus between organizational communication and strategic communication to establish associations and analogies that involve communicational processes and the organizational context. Thus, communication is seen through the metaphor of the crossing that comprises the multiple theoretical and practical variables that permeate the reality of organizations.

High pressure solid-liquid equilibrium of fatty acid ethyl esters binary systems

    No full text
International audienceThe solid-liquid phase diagrams of three binary mixtures of fatty acids ethyl esters (FAEEs), formed by ethyl laurate, ethyl myristate and ethyl palmitate, were measured using high pressure microscopy in the range of 0.1-80. MPa. In a first step, the melting temperatures of pure FAEEs have been determined showing a linear dependence from the pressure. The binary phase diagrams are only slightly affected by the pressure, even in very large pressure ranges such as those studied in this work. The modeling of the phase diagrams was attempted using a predictive approach previously developed by one of the authors in the case for n-alkane mixtures. The model was able to provide an accurate description of the high pressure solid-liquid equilibrium of FAEE mixtures. Average absolute deviations between experimental and predicted liquidus curve varied from 0.7 to 2.8. K in the entire interval of pressures
