Effects of innovativeness and innovation behavior on tourism smes performance : the case of Albania
Though SMEs play a crucial role in countries' economic development, some of them succeed and others fail during their life cycle. In this regard, managers/owners continually have to identify the most significant factors that influence performance management. In addition, this is crucial for developing countries such as Albania, wherein such studies are lacking, furthermore, tourism sector is experiencing very fast development. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the interplay of innovativeness, innovation behavior and SMEs' performance indicators. Exploiting face-to-face techniques, data for 211 valid cases have been gathered from Albanian tourism SMEs. By using SEM statistical methodology, the results indicate that innovativeness significantly affects innovation behavior. While innovativeness does not affect SMEs performance directly, its significant effects are indirect, through the mediation role of innovation behavior. Regarding innovation behavior, the results indicate that the more tourism's SMEs innovate in terms of ICT, cooperation (associations, networks etc.), the more their performance will positively increase. Operationalization of the vague term of innovation is a contribution to the literature. Finally, other theoretical and managerial contributions of this study are discussed
Publicly funded pre-start support for new firms: who demands it and how it affects their employment growth
This paper examines pre-start determinants of the demand for publicly funded
external support to new ventures. It also investigates the effects of different types of such
support on subsequent firm growth. Adopting resource-based and information asymmetry
approaches, the paper argues that the entrepreneurs who ask for publicly funded pre-start
support are more likely to face information asymmetries with regard to resource providers,
which in turn depend on their level of human and social capital. It also suggests that
intangible support oriented towards knowledge generation would be the most beneficial. A
series of two-stage treatment effects models applied to a representative sample of new firms
in Navarra (Spain) offer considerable support to our predictions. Implications for research and
policy are discussed. The authors wish to acknowledge the financial

The influence of individual perceptions and the urban/rural environment on nascent entrepreneurship
Individual perceptions have been shown to affect the decision to start a new firm. This decision is also contingent upon the context in which actions are taken. However, not much is known about the joint impact of entrepreneurs' perceptions and the urban/rural environment where the firm is created. The purpose of this paper is to examine how nascent entrepreneurship is influenced by individual perceptions and the urban/rural context. Using data from the Spanish GEM project, the results of a series of logistic regression models indicate that opportunity perception and self-efficacy have a positive influence on the probability of becoming a nascent entrepreneur. Interestingly, we also find that individuals in rural areas who perceive new opportunities are more likely to become nascent entrepreneurs rather than those who live in urban ones.

Is It Because I Can or Because of Who I Am? : The moderating effect of entrepreneurs’ social identity on entrepreneurial self-efficacys' - entrepreneurial intention relationship
The main purpose of this paper is to examine whether potential entrepreneurs are mainly driven by entrepreneurial skills or by a social identity to engage in entrepreneurial behaviors. Using a sample of 696 Colombian students from the data of Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students‘Survey (GUESSS), findings confirm Darwinian and Missionary social identity influence entrepreneurial intention positively. Furthermore, we find that the more a person identifies with a Darwinian social identity, the less entrepreneurial intention depends on entrepreneurial self-efficacy, while the contrary happens for missionary social identity. This study provides empirical evidence that competence, and identification influence the entrepreneurial process. Additionally, this study provides an explanation in a new setting, about why some individuals with strong entrepreneurial self-efficacy do not exhibit strong entrepreneurial intention
