Osteoporosis and rheumatic diseases.
Numerous rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, dermatomyositis/polymyositis and vasculitis are characterized by osteoporosis and fragility fractures. Inflammatory cytokines, glucocorticoid treatment, immobilization and reduced physical activity due to painful joints and muscle weakness are considered the main risk factors that cause low body mass density values in these diseases. Emerging evidence highlights the role of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-7 and IL-17, in the regulation of the bone homeostasis. In fact, chronic inflammation is often characterized by an imbalance between bone formation and bone resorption with a net prevalence of osteoclastogenesis, which is an important determinant of bone loss in rheumatic diseases
Axions, their Relatives and Prospects for the Future
The observation of a non-vanishing rotation of linear polarized laser light
after passage through a strong magnetic field by the PVLAS collaboration has
renewed the interest in light particles coupled to photons. Axions are a
species of such particles that is theoretically well motivated. However, the
relation between coupling and mass predicted by standard axion models conflicts
with the PVLAS observation. Moreover, light particles with a coupling to
photons of the strength required to explain PVLAS face trouble from
astrophysical bounds. We discuss models that can avoid these bounds. Finally,
we present some ideas to test these possible explanations of PVLAS

Influence of Modeling Liquids and Universal Adhesives Used as Lubricants on Color Stability and Translucency of Resin-Based Composites
The use of lubricants during restorative procedures is a clinically common practice to alleviate the stickiness of resin-based composite (RBCs) materials and to improve its handling. This study evaluated the effects of three modeling liquids (ML) and one universal adhesive (UA) used as lubricants during composite layering on the color stability and translucency of RBCs. Methods. The following materials were applied between every 1 mm RBC layer (total restoration height of 4 mm): GC modeling liquid (GCML, GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), composite wetting resin (UPWR, Ultradent Products, South Jordan, UT, USA), Bisco modeling resin (BSMR, Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, IL, USA) as an ML and Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (KUBQ, Kuraray Noritake Dental, Tokyo, Japan) as a UA. Lubricant-free specimens were used as the control. Color coordinates (L*, a* and b*) were recorded at baseline and after a simulation of 1 month of coffee consumption. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test (p < 0.05). Results. All lubricants induced a color change higher than the perceptibility threshold (ΔE00 > 0.81). GCML showed the highest color stability. The use of KUBQ resulted in significantly higher a* values (p = 0.001) at baseline and after staining. KUBQ and UPWR significantly influenced the color stability (ΔE00, p = 0.0001) after staining, overcoming the clinical acceptability threshold (ΔE00 > 1.77). Conclusions. The use of lubricants may affect color stability at baseline and after simulation of staining. Translucency was not affected at baseline nor after staining. Clinical Significance. Clinicians should be aware that some lubricants may affect color stability, even at baseline
AB0691 ANALYSIS OF SARS-COV-2 ANTIBODIES IN NON-COVID-19 PATIENTS: COMPARISON BETWEEN SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS PATIENTS AND HEALTHY CONTROLS
Background:Previous study evidenced a cross-reactivity between Sars-Cov-2 antibodies and autoimmune tissue antigen involved in connective tissue diseases, as nuclear antigen (NA), extractable nuclear antigen (ENA), histone and collagen (1). No study has been published about the titer of Sars-Cov-2 antibodies in non-infected patients with autoimmune disease.Objectives:To evaluate the titer of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in non-COVID-19 patients and compare it between systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients and healthy controls (HC).Methods:A total of 58 patients with SSc (who fulfilled ACR/EULAR 2013 SSc classification criteria) and 18 HC were enrolled. Sera of all participants were collected, and SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG and IgM) were evaluated by means ELISA. In all participants swabs for SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse-transcriptase-polymerase-chain-reaction assay were reported negative. Demographic, clinical, and autoimmune serological characteristics of SSc patients were recorded. The normal distribution was assessed using the Shapiro–Wilk's test. Exclusion criteria was previous or actual Sars-Cov-2 infection. Comparisons between study groups of patients were evaluated by the Student's t-test or Mann – Whitney U-test as appropriate. The differences between categorial variables were assessed by Pearson chi-square or Fisher's exact test, as opportune. Statistical significance was set at p ≤ 0.05.Results:We observed significant differences between SSc patients and HC in serum levels of Sars-Cov-2 antibodies (IgG: 1,4±2,1 AU/ml vs 0,36±0,19 AU/ml respectively (p=0,001); and IgM: 2,5±3,1 AU/ml vs 0,8±0,7 AU/ml (p=0,022)). In 5 SSc patients was found titer of Sars-Cov-2 antibodies (IgG) exceeding the cut-off, but the control of swabs for SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse-transcriptase-polymerase-chain-reaction assay were negative. No significative differences in Sars-Cov-2 autoantibodies titer were found in subgroup of SSc patients with or without ILD or PAH, limited or diffuse skin subset, and different autoantibodies profile. Furthermore, antibodies titer was not associated with different drugs (steroid, methotrexate, mofetil-mycophenolate and bosentan) in use.Conclusion:A cross mimicking between Sars-Cov-2 antibodies and antinuclear antibodies or anti ENA could be hypothesized. Search for low Energy solar Axions with CAST
We have started the development of a detector system, sensitive to single
photons in the eV energy range, to be suitably coupled to one of the CAST
magnet ports. This system should open to CAST a window on possible detection of
low energy Axion Like Particles emitted by the sun. Preliminary tests have
involved a cooled photomultiplier tube coupled to the CAST magnet via a
Galileian telescope and a switched 40 m long optical fiber. This system has
reached the limit background level of the detector alone in ideal conditions,
and two solar tracking runs have been performed with it at CAST. Such a
measurement has never been done before with an axion helioscope. We will
present results from these runs and briefly discuss future detector
