The increasing pluralism of world visions that can be noticed to be professed by the citizens of our modern societies is calling into question the universality of ethical demands upon wich the peaceful living together of liberal democracies rests. The claiming of a common rationality in the social life was shown up by kantian analysis of “the public use of reason” in some of his more representative works. Both Rawls and Habermas in the XX century can be considered the followers of kantian approach on the public reason. By setting up the public reason in a dialogical way it would be possible to correct the discouraging going adrift suffered by the public reason what is in force in our days, called “standard”

    HTTP/2: Analysis and measurements

The upgrade of HTTP, the protocol that powers the Internet of the people, was published as RFC on May of 2015. HTTP/2 aims to improve the users experience by solving wellknow problems of HTTP/1.1 and also introducing new features. The main goal of this project is to study HTTP/2 protocol, the support in the software, its deployment and implementation on the Internet and how the network reacts to an upgrade of the existing protocol. To shed some light on this question we build two experiments. We build a crawler to monitor the HTTP/2 adoption across Internet using the Alexa top 1 million websites as sample. We find that 22,653 servers announce support for HTTP/2, but only 10,162 websites are served over it. The support for HTTP/2 Upgrade is minimal, just 16 servers support it and only 10 of them load the content of the websites over HTTP/2 on plain TCP. Motivated by those numbers, we investigate how the new protocol behaves with the middleboxes along the path in the network. We build a platform to evaluate it across 67 different ports for TLS connections, HTTP/2 Upgrade and over plain TCP. Considering both fixed line and mobile network, we use a crowdsourcing platform to recruit users. Middleboxes affect HTTP/2, especially on port 80 for plain TCP connections. HTTP/2 Upgrades requests are affected by proxies, failing to upgrade to the new protocol. Over TLS on port 443 on the other hand, all the connections are successful.Ingeniería Técnica en Sistemas de Telecomunicació

Versión aceptada. Embargo 24 mesesSolvent degradation and volatile compound emissions are two of the major concerns about the deployment of carbon capture technologies based on chemical absorption. In this context, partial oxy-combustion might reduce the solvent degradation due to the use of a higher CO2 concentrated flue gas. This work evaluates the oxidative degradation of a novel AMP/AEP blend, namely POS #1, under partial oxy-combustion conditions. The effects of temperature and flue gas composition were evaluated in terms of solvent loss, degradation rates, NH3 emissions and degradation products. The experiments were set at temperatures up to 70 °C and two levels of O2 concentration – 3%v/v and 6%v/v. The CO2 concentration of the flue gas ranged between 15%v/v and 60%v/v CO2. The novel solvent POS#1 showed high resistance to degrade and resulted in lower degradation rates than MEA in all the operating conditions evaluated in this work. The maximum degradation of AEP and AMP was 24% and 19%, respectively. MEA degraded almost double under the same conditions. Temperature and O2 concentration enhanced the oxidative degradation of POS #1. However, the use of higher CO2 concentration in the flue gas led to lower degradation rates of AEP and AMP and hence oxidative degradation was partially inhibited under partial oxy-combustion conditions. The presence of higher CO2 content in the flue gas decreased the NH3 production and a 70% reduction of its emissions was achieved as the CO2 concentration shifted from 15%v/v to 60%v/v. Other major degradation compounds such as formate and 2,4-lutidine were also decreased. New degradation products were not identified so that the suggested degradation pathways proposed in the literature were not influenced by the presence of higher CO2 concentrations.Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad CTM-2014-58573-RUnión Europea, European Development Research Fund (EDRF

Recent demands for new applications are giving rise to an increasing need of Quality of Service (QoS). Nowadays, most IP-based networks tend to use the DiffServ architecture to provide end-to-end QoS. Traffic conditioners are a key element in the deployment of DiffServ. In this paper, we introduce a new approach for traffic conditioning based on feedback signaling among boundary nodes and traffic conditioners. This new approach is intended to provide a poportional distribution of excess bandwidth to endusers. We evaluate through extensive simulations the performance of our proposal in terms of final throughput, considering contracted target rates and distribution of spare bandwidth. Results show a high level of fairness in the excess bandwidth allocation among TCP sources under different network conditions

End-to-end TCP performance of the couple CBM traffic conditioner and RIO buffer management in a three node topology

    Get PDF
Despite the abundant literature written about the AF PHB, no solution has been found to efficiently face up its two goals, assuring a minimum rate to the users and offering a fair distribution of the excess bandwidth if available. The Counters Based Modified (CBM) traffic conditioner, presented in a previous work, is able to achieve these objectives in single-node topologies. This paper raises issues with providing bandwidth assurance and spare bandwidth distribution for TCP flows in more complex topologies than usual. Simulation results explore the effect of target rates, round trip times, and efficiency of CBM when up to three network nodes implement service differentiation, including in some cases the coexistence of assured service and best-effort traffics. This work was supported by the Spanish Research Council under projects TEC2004-05622-C04-02/TCM and TIC2001-3339-C02-02

Many university students have doubts about how or where to start writing their undergraduate thesis work; it is common not to be clear how to identify a research problem or even towards which topic their research is oriented, and there are doubts about how to process and systematize so much information available in the era of digitalization. This article presents learning strategies to formulate a research thesis for engineering undergraduate programs, with an emphasis on the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) toward a University Education 4.0 paradigm. The main themes and issues discussed in this article, carried out through learning strategies for students based on the scientific method, are the following: (i) Recommendations for choosing a research topic, (ii) Guidelines for problem identification and question research, (iii) Suggestions for choosing a thesis advisor, (iv) Instructions for finding suitable sources of information, (v) Structure of the table of contents for writing the thesis manuscript, and (vi) Indications for preparing an oral defense of thesis research. This article highlights recommendations and precautions directed towards professors and students with the use of the chatbot-type artificial intelligence (AI) tool called ChatGPT for the formulation of the thesis under a responsible conduct approach in research. This article concludes that the application of tutoring/guidance strategies between professors and students requires an adequate ethical use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) during the development of a research thesis to generate a comprehensive educational environment that encourages research and develops a sustainable learning process in the context of the University Education 4.0 paradigm
