Regression Towards The Mean Versus Efficient Market Hypothesis: An Empirical Study
This study investigates the dominance of the statistical phenomenon, regression towards the means, against the market efficiency of capital markets. Using Fortune Magazine’s ranking of America’s most admired companies to distinguish positive from negative firms, and using the Standard and Poor Index as a surrogate for market, the authors demonstrated that: (1) a portfolio of least admired forms will outperform a portfolio of most admired firms, (2) a portfolio of most admired firms will outperform the market, and (3) a portfolio of least admired firms will outperform the market
Proximal Hypospadias
Hypospadias results from abnormal development of the penis that leaves the urethral meatus proximal to its normal glanular position. Meatal position may be located anywhere along the penile shaft, but more severe forms of hypospadias may have a urethral meatus located at the scrotum or perineum. The spectrum of abnormalities may also include ventral curvature of the penis, a dorsally redundant prepuce, and atrophic corpus spongiosum. Due to the severity of these abnormalities, proximal hypospadias often requires more extensive reconstruction in order to achieve an anatomically and functionally successful result. We review the spectrum of proximal hypospadias etiology, presentation, correction, and possible associated complications
Combined regenerated fibre Bragg gratings and Fabry-Perot etalons for dual strain and temperature sensing
© 2015 SPIE. A highly integrated fibre-optic sensor with regenerated fibre Bragg grating (RFBG) and a micro Fabry-Pérot (MFP) is proposed and demonstrated for simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain under high temperature (> 600°C). The MFP is fabricated by using a 157 nm fluorine gas (F2) laser to micromachine the core of a standard optical fibre. The RFBG is fabricated by regenerating a seed grating written over the Fabry-Pérot. Since the MFP and RFBG have different sensitivity coefficients, their combination can be used to realise simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain. It is believed that such a high-temperature strain sensor could find important applications in many areas where simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain under high temperature is required
Thermodynamic properties of extremely diluted symmetric Q-Ising neural networks
Using the replica-symmetric mean-field theory approach the thermodynamic and
retrieval properties of extremely diluted {\it symmetric} -Ising neural
networks are studied. In particular, capacity-gain parameter and
capacity-temperature phase diagrams are derived for and .
The zero-temperature results are compared with those obtained from a study of
the dynamics of the model. Furthermore, the de Almeida-Thouless line is
determined. Where appropriate, the difference with other -Ising
architectures is outlined.Comment: 16 pages Latex including 6 eps-figures. Corrections, also in most of

Carbon superatom thin films
Assembling clusters on surfaces has emerged as a novel way to grow thin films
with targeted properties. In particular, it has been proposed from experimental
findings that fullerenes deposited on surfaces could give rise to thin films
retaining the bonding properties of the incident clusters. However the
microscopic structure of such films is still unclear. By performing quantum
molecular dynamics simulations, we show that C_28 fullerenes can be deposited
on a surface to form a thin film of nearly defect free molecules, which act as
carbon superatoms. Our findings help clarify the structure of disordered small
fullerene films and also support the recently proposed hyperdiamond model for
solid C_28.Comment: 13 pages, RevTeX, 2 figures available as black and white PostScript

Spectrally narrow polarisation conversion in a slow-light photonic crystal waveguide
A narrow-band (3dB bandpass < 2 nm) transmission notch based on polarisation conversion within a SOI photonic crystal waveguide is demonstrated. Signal contrast between quasi- TE and TM eigenstates exceeding 40 dB is achieved. Further, multiple resonant wavelength coupling between the two eigenstates is also observed
Classification of non-indigenous species based on their impacts: Considerations for application in marine management
Assessment of the ecological and economic/societal impacts of the introduction of non-indigenous species (NIS) is one of the primary focus areas of bioinvasion science in terrestrial and aquatic environments, and is considered essential to management. A classification system of NIS, based on the magnitude of their environmental impacts, was recently proposed to assist management. Here, we consider the potential application of this classification scheme to the marine environment, and offer a complementary framework focussing on value sets in order to explicitly address marine management concerns. Since existing data on marine NIS impacts are scarce and successful marine removals are rare, we propose that management of marine NIS adopt a precautionary approach, which not only would emphasise preventing new incursions through pre-border and at-border controls but also should influence the categorisation of impacts. The study of marine invasion impacts requires urgent attention and significant investment, since we lack the luxury of waiting for the knowledge base to be acquired before the window of opportunity closes for feasible management
Workload and Performance in FOPA: A Strategic Planning Interface for Air Traffic Control
The Flight Organizer Planning Aid (FOPA) interface was designed to aid strategic planning in air traffic control. In particular, FOPA was designed to address difficulties in solving en route sequencing problems (combining multiple streams of traffic into a single stream heading for a destination). We compared the planning performance of 12 full performance level air traffic controllers using either the FOPA interface or normal flight progress strips. Planning performance was significantly better when using FOPA; subjective workload was also reduced. The results indicate that a key advantage of FOPA lies in its dynamic linkage between the flight organizer screen where aircraft tokens can be categorized into color-coded blocks and their matching spatial representation on the radar.Yeshttps://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/manuscript-submission-guideline
