Iconografía de la idea de España en los manuales escolares durante la transición a la democracia (1976-1983)
In this article I analyze the iconographic construction of the idea of nation in Spain Turing the country’s transitional period. The analysis is based on images (pictures and photographs) related to the nation concept, which were included in elementary school’s History, Civic Education and Patriotic Education books. This study aims to be an approach to the different ways in which the notion of Spain was conceived by the equally different political actors who took part in the production of these books (political parties and the Catholic Church, mainly) and, therefore, to the way it was represented by a series of images, which were expected to show the values and the historical justification of this idea.

Methodological analysis about the potential avoidability of motor vehicles colliding against pedestrians in urban areas
The main motivation of the authors of this article is to establish a rigorous definition of the potential capacity that a motor vehicle driver has to avoid a collision against a pedestrian. Henceforth we will call this capacity avoidability. To calculate the avoidability, it is necessary to analyze time, distance and itinerary, initial position of the pedestrian when exposed to the risk, initial speed; theoretical maximum speed developed by the vehicle and road limit speed; the driver’s reaction time and the influence of the environment; and the interrelation of the initial positions of vehicle and pedestrian with respect to the transversal axis of the road. The definition, categorized by variables, of a driver’s ability to avoid run over a pedestrian in an urban area has an evident usefulness: it allows knowing the influence of the initial speed of a vehicle as an isolated variable and the importance of the road limit speed in the ability to prevent an accident.Postprint (published version
Experimental validation of Power Plant Control architectures
This project deals with the experimental validation of different power plant control architectures for Large-Scale Photovoltaic power plants (LS-PVPP). Central and hierarchical are the two main control architectures studied in the thesis. The central architecture controls the inverters of the power plant from a centralized unit and the hierarchical also takes into consideration the local controllers of the converters. Various of the standard control services for this type of power plants are introduced and tested. An experimental platform consisting of three voltage source converters (VSC) is used for the tests. The controls and services are implemented in an external software called LabVIEW and connected to the platform via National Instruments hardware. The experimental data is contrasted and validated with the simulation data from simulations performed in Simulink and PLECS. The first part of this thesis introduces the LS-PVPPs and the architectures and services considered in the project. The main elements forming a LS-PVPP, different topologies
and the general plant and inverters controls are shown in this part. Also, the architectures and services are explained in depth. The second part describes the modelling of the system and the design of the power plant controller. There, the case of study is presented and the different models used in the simulations are defined. Then, the design and tuning of the control is described. The next part shows the experimental setup used in the project. A definition of the real platform set in the lab and the inverters is presented here. An important part of the experimental setup is the communication protocols and the LabVIEW implementation, also shown in this part. Finally, some experimental and simulation tests are performed for each architecture and service previously presented. A comparison is made in order to validate experimental

Evaluation of graphite and TiO2 as susceptors for microwave dewaxing in ceramic shell casting processes of artworks
The main problems of the traditional foundry dewaxing processes in fine arts workshops are the emission of gases, the loss of 80% of the wax, the high electrical consumption, and the high risks for the operators. The introduction of the microwave technology for dewaxing of ceramic shell molds allows to minimize some of these problems, although the use of electromagnetic susceptors that capture the radiated energy and transform it into heat is required. This article describes different microwave dewaxing tests using TiO2 and graphite as susceptors. The results obtained show that this technique is viable, allowing the casting process to be carried out with a low percentage of breakage problems in the mold and significantly reducing the emitted gases and electricity consumption. The technique allows to recover in the same operation around 90% of the wax used in small and medium format objects. The tests show that the selection of the material used as a susceptor, the area of application and the power regimes, are fundamental to enable a controlled, soft and non-aggressive dewaxing, both for the art molds and for the environment, as opposed to the traditional Flash Dewaxing technique. In this way, it is possible to change the foundry of ceramic shells for artworks to achieve high levels of performance and safety, and to save energy, time and materials. This work is funded by the State Program for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence around two projects in this line "Alternatives to dewaxing in the smelting of ceramic husks (ceramic shell casting): microwave technique", HAR2010-17570 (01/01/2011 - 30/04/2014) and "Alternatives to dewaxing in ceramic husks (ceramic shell casting): Microwave technique (II)", reference. An ESP syllabus designed to improve English vocabulary in physiotherapy
"The aim of the research is to find out 1) the needs of the students to learn English, 2) the difficulties students have to acquire vocabulary, 3) the way they prefer to learn English, 4) the aspects the students like most or do not like of their English classes, as well as, recommendations they would like to add to their English program also to know if they want to take an ESP course designed in Phisiotherapy for them. This research employed a deficiency and strategy analysis with a qualitative approach. The respondents consist of students taken from a quatrimester group of the Phisiotherapy Bachelour program from UPAM. The data was gathered by distribuiting questionnaires"
