El Mashreq francés en México. Patronazgo, propiedad y la lectura de los cuerpos en la Poscolonia / The French Mashreq in Mexico. Patronage, Property and Body readings in Postcolony
This paper explores the ambivalence in the structural and discursive production of the class positions of migrants that have circulated between Lebanon, Syria and Mexico throughout the twentieth century. Its central argument is that the inscription of their subalternity as subjects of the French mandate on the Mashreq during the first half of the twentieth century has constituted their access to a privileged position in the Mexican context.Key words: Mashreq, México, France, Subalternity, Patronage
Effects of Liposomes Contained in Thermosensitive Hydrogels as Biomaterials Useful in Neural Tissue Engineering
Indexación: Scopus.Advances in the generation of suitable thermosensitive hydrogels for the delivery of cells in neural tissue engineering demonstrate a delicate relationship between physical properties and capabilities to promote cell proliferation and differentiation. To improve the properties of these materials, it is possible to add liposomes for the controlled release of bioactive elements, which in turn can affect the physical and biological properties of the hydrogels. In the present investigation, different hydrogels based on Pluronic F127 have been formulated with the incorporation of chitosan and two types of liposomes of two different sizes. The rheological and thermal properties and their relation with the neurite proliferation and growth of the PC12 cell line were evaluated. Our results show that the incorporation of liposomes modifies the properties of the hydrogels dependent on the concentration of chitosan and the lipid type in the liposomes, which directly affect the capabilities of the hydrogels to promote the viability and differentiation of PC12 cells. © 2017 by the authors.http://www.mdpi.com/1996-1944/10/10/112

Local Popularity and Time in top-N Recommendation
Items popularity is a strong signal in recommendation algorithms. It strongly
affects collaborative filtering approaches and it has been proven to be a very
good baseline in terms of results accuracy. Even though we miss an actual
personalization, global popularity can be effectively used to recommend items
to users. In this paper we introduce the idea of a time-aware personalized
popularity in recommender systems by considering both items popularity among
neighbors and how it changes over time. An experimental evaluation shows a
highly competitive behavior of the proposed approach, compared to state of the
art model-based collaborative approaches, in terms of results accuracy.Comment: ECIR short paper, 7 page
Structural Reforms, Growth, and Inequality: An Overview of Theory, Measurement, and Evidence
This chapter provides a critical overview of the state of the art in the economics literature on structural reforms. It takes stock of theoretical developments, measurement efforts, and of the econometric evidence. We start with a simple theoretical framework for the relationship between structural reforms, economic growth, and income inequality. We argue that whether structural reforms have a positive or negative impact depends on various factors. The type of reform, timing, sequence, and political constraints play crucial roles in determining the effectiveness of reforms on economic growth and income inequality. We conclude by proposing a 7-point agenda for future research
A multi-layered Bayesian network model for structured document retrieval
New standards in document representation, like for example SGML, XML, and MPEG-7, compel Information Retrieval to design and implement models and tools to index, retrieve and present documents according to the given document structure. The paper presents the design of an Information Retrieval system for multimedia structured documents, like for example journal articles, e-books, and MPEG-7 videos. The system is based on Bayesian Networks, since this class of mathematical models enable to represent and quantify the relations between the structural components of the document. Some preliminary results on the system implementation are also presented
