    M+D: conceptual guidelines for compiling a materials library

    This article proposes to present a study conducted by the Raw Materials research group, the results of which comprise the conceptual guidelines for compiling an M+D material library. The study includes the topic, materials and design taking the impact of the changes that came into being in the post industrial era on project methodologies and the search for information regarding materials. Taking into account the importance and complexity that these relationships have taken on currently, we have studied the issue of materials based on Manzini (1983) and Ashby and Johnson (2002). Afterward different databases and materials libraries located in the Brazil, the United States, France and Italy geared toward design professionals and students were analyzed to understand what information and means of access to them were available. The project methodologies were approached based on Löbach (1991), Bürdeck (1994), Schulmann (1994), Baxter (1998), Dantas (1998 and 2005) and Papanek (1995 and 2000). This study sought to identify the key elements of the role of materials in the project process today, to serve as a parameter for the analysis of the models studied. A comparative analysis of the models investigated enabled identification of positive and negative aspects to adapt to the needs previously mentioned and identify conceptual guidelines for compiling a collection of materials for use in design projects. Curs 2014-2015Este Trabajo Final de Grado tiene por objetivo investigar la opinión de los traductores profesionales sobre la utilidad de la traducción en la práctica traductora, tal y como indica su título. Existe una gran disparidad de opiniones con relación a la aportación que la teoría de la traducción puede hacer a la práctica traductora. De esta misma forma, simultáneamente se ha elaborado una contextualización teórica sobre este objeto de estudio para poder conocer las diferentes opiniones de diversos teóricos sobre el tema. Para poder ofrecer datos reales sobre la opinión de los traductores profesionales acerca de esta cuestión, en este trabajo se ha realizado una encuesta, con la que se pretende reflejar la opinión de los traductores profesionales encuestados, para así poder elaborar una conclusión y confirmar una hipótesis. A grandes rasgos podemos decir que los resultados de la encuesta muestran la gran controversia que hay respecto al tema, puesto que hallamos dos grupos bien diferenciados y prácticamente igualados: los que apoyan que la teoría de la traducción tenga utilidad, es decir, que sí aporta una contribución en la práctica traductora y los que no

The paradigms of how industrial companies operate have been progressively changing over the last two decades. The flexible and dynamic flow of information and persons over companies has created new challenges and opportunities for industry. It is not possible to dissociate an enterprise from its human resources and the knowledge they create and use. Companies face decisions constantly, involving several actors and situations. With the market pressure and rapid changing environments, decisions are becoming more complex, and involving more people with complementary expertise. The knowledge processes are only efficient if the actors can anchor and relate the information handled to the extended enterprise. Therefore, an enterprise model is a fundamental aspect to support decision-making in industry. This work includes an overview of existing modelling methodologies and standards. Afterwards, it proposes an enterprise model to represent an extended or virtual enterprise, suitable not only for decision-making applications but also for others. This thesis considers methods and systems to support decision and analyses decision types and processes. Afterwards, the thesis presents some considerations on decision-making in industry and a generic decision-making process, including, a review of decision criteria commonly used in industry. Two of the methods widely used in some of the mentioned areas, case-based reasoning and the analytic hierarchy process, have been used in the scope of problem solving and decision-making, respectively. This thesis presents an approach based on a combination of case-based reasoning and analytic hierarchy process to support innovation, particularly product design in industry. The combination overcomes shortcomings of both methods to provide the most adequate decision support for multi-disciplinary teams in innovation processes. Moreover, the work presented proposes an algorithm for automatic adjustment of the weight of the actors in the decision process. This thesis includes case studies, developed in the scope of several research projects, used as practical applications of the work developed. These practical applications include seven test cases (with two manufacturing companies, two assembling companies, two engineering services companies and one software company) where the proposed enterprise model and methods have been applied with the purpose of supporting decisions.     A survey on the public perception of CCS in France

    An awareness and opinion survey on Carbon Capture and Storage was conducted on a representative sample of French aged 15 years and above. About 6\% of respondents were able to provide a satisfying definition of the technology. The key question about `approval of or opposition to' the use of CCS in France was asked twice, first after presenting the technology, then after exposing the potential adverse consequences. Approval rates, 59\% and 38\%, show that there is no a priori rejection of the technology. The sample was split in two to test for a semantic effect: questioning one half about `Stockage' (English: storage), the other about `Sequestration'. Manipulating the vocabulary had no statistically significant effect on approval rates. Stockage is more meaningful, but does not convey the idea of permanent monitoring.Carbon capture and storage; public opinion

    Influence of Planting Date, Maturity Group, Harvest aids and Fungicide Application on Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Seed Quality

    Field studies evaluated the influence of planting date, maturity group, and harvest timing on soybean yield and seed quality at the LSU AgCenter Northeast (NERS), Macon Ridge, and Dean Lee Research Stations in 2018-2020. In addition, the influence of harvest aid and fungicide application on seed quality impact from delayed harvest and environment was investigated at NERS in 2019 and 2020 in both field and environmentally controlled growth chambers. Soybean yield was maximized when maturity group IV and V soybean varieties were planted between Mid-April and Mid-May. Earlier and later planting dates did not result in maximized yield. Planting date impacts on seed quality, however, were negligible. Soybean varieties within maturity group 4.5 to 5.3 can result in acceptable seed quality and maximized yield in Louisiana, assuming plants are harvested at the optimum harvest timing (when seed reach 13% moisture) and not delayed 14 to 28 days. At NERS, harvest aid application had no impact on soybean seed quality impacts from delayed harvest and saturated (100% relative humidity) environment. Delaying harvest beyond approximately 20 days in the field past optimum harvest timing can result in reduced seed quality. In addition, seedpod exposure to high relative humidity conditions (100%) for as little as 48 hours after optimum harvest timing can result in poor seed quality. At NERS, fungicide application had no impact on seed quality impacts from delayed harvest and saturated environment in the absence of disease pressure. Delaying harvest beyond 20 days in the field past optimum harvest timing or 4 days in a completely saturated environment can result in significant seed quality reduction
