Perceptions, Antecedents and Consequents of Employee Engagement Initiatives in Australian Organizations
This paper presents a research project which was designed to explore employee engagement (EE) initiatives in Australian companies from the perspective of human resource (HR) managers. The research design was quantitative in the form of a self-administered survey instrument which was mailed to 703 HR managers in seven major Australian cities. 205 (29 per cent) usable surveys were returned with almost two-thirds from women. Respondents reported having a good understanding of EE but there was much less endorsement of the value, importance and benefits of EE initiatives. Respondents generally indicated that their organizations were not committed to EE in any demonstrable way. The data highlighted that employee retention was the primary reason organizations embark upon EE initiatives and that the outcomes of initiatives were only tentatively acknowledged by respondents. The research has implications for HR managers, senior management, EE consultants and organizations generally. Much more can be done to raise the profile, importance and benefits of EE initiatives. The originality of this research is that it is the first scholarly study to look at EE initiatives from the perspective of HR manager

The asellote isopod Munna (Uromunna) reynoldsi Frankenberg and Menzies, previously known from coastal swamps a t Sapelo Island, Georgia, is reported from Texas. Several specimens were collected in grab samples from Fence Lake, a small brackish marsh lake (salinity 0 to 2.7 ppt) in Sca Rim State Park, and in a nearby coastal marsh (salinity 4.4 ppt). The present records indicate that the species is a brackish water form

The Political Economy of Myanmar's Transition

After two decades of military rule, the pace of change has startled almost everyone and led to a great deal of cautious optimism. To make sense of the transition and assess the case for optimism, this article explores the political economy of Myanmar's dual transition from state socialism to capitalism and from dictatorship to democracy. It analyses changes within Myanmar society from a critical political economy perspective in order to both situate these developments within broader regional trends and to evaluate the country's current trajectory. In particular, the emergence of state-mediated capitalism and politico-business complexes in Myanmar's borderlands are emphasised. These dynamics, which have empowered a narrow oligarchy, are less likely to be undone by the reform process than to fundamentally shape the contours of reform. Consequently, Myanmar's future may not be unlike those of other Southeast Asian states that have experienced similar developmental trajectories
Trusty URIs: Verifiable, Immutable, and Permanent Digital Artifacts for Linked Data
To make digital resources on the web verifiable, immutable, and permanent, we
propose a technique to include cryptographic hash values in URIs. We call them
trusty URIs and we show how they can be used for approaches like
nanopublications to make not only specific resources but their entire reference
trees verifiable. Digital artifacts can be identified not only on the byte
level but on more abstract levels such as RDF graphs, which means that
resources keep their hash values even when presented in a different format. Our
approach sticks to the core principles of the web, namely openness and
decentralized architecture, is fully compatible with existing standards and
protocols, and can therefore be used right away. Evaluation of our reference
implementations shows that these desired properties are indeed accomplished by
our approach, and that it remains practical even for very large files.Comment: Small error corrected in the text (table data was correct) on page

Provenance-Centered Dataset of Drug-Drug Interactions
Over the years several studies have demonstrated the ability to identify
potential drug-drug interactions via data mining from the literature (MEDLINE),
electronic health records, public databases (Drugbank), etc. While each one of
these approaches is properly statistically validated, they do not take into
consideration the overlap between them as one of their decision making
variables. In this paper we present LInked Drug-Drug Interactions (LIDDI), a
public nanopublication-based RDF dataset with trusty URIs that encompasses some
of the most cited prediction methods and sources to provide researchers a
resource for leveraging the work of others into their prediction methods. As
one of the main issues to overcome the usage of external resources is their
mappings between drug names and identifiers used, we also provide the set of
mappings we curated to be able to compare the multiple sources we aggregate in
