PurposeThis study aims to examine the role of teachers’ emotional intelligence (EI) and emotional labour (EL) strategies in their affective and physical well-being.Design/methodology/approachThe quantitative data were collected from 436 primary school teachers. Likert-type scales were used to measure the variables. Confirmatory factor analyses were performed for the construct validity of the scales, and path analysis was used to test the hypothesised model.FindingsThe final structural equation model suggests that teachers' EI levels and display of appropriate EL strategies significantly reduce their stress, anxiety, burnout and psychosomatic complaints (PSCs). The final model shows that the deep acting strategy, which includes more adaptive emotion regulation strategies, improves teachers’ affective and physical well-being, while the surface acting strategy has a detrimental effect on their well-being.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first in the literature to highlight the importance of school teachers’ EI and EL strategies in managing stress, anxiety, burnout (affective well-being),and alleviating PSCs (physical well-being) within a single structural equation model. The findings have implications for educational leaders in fostering teachers’ emotional competencies and resources

DETERMINATION OF GENETIC VARIABILITY OF EASTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA REGION TOBACCOS

Tobacco establishing various ecotypes in different ecological zones is one of the crop plants having high genetic variability. In previous years, tobacco ecotypes were conserved by tobacco farming controlled governmentally. But now tobacco sector is privatized. As a result of privatization, companies in tobacco sector have adopted a few ecotypes based on tobacco farming. This phenomenon has increased the risk of extinction for the present genetic variability and now some cultivars are nearly extinct. In this study, conducted to prevent genetic resource erosion, different tobacco ecotypes were determined by visiting the tobacco fields in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Region. Some morphological, technique and yield characters of the cultivars were compared by farming them in field via seed. 12 characters of the cultivars were tabulated. Seeds of cultivars, characters of which were determined were delivered to Seed Gene Bank of Turkey

In the present study, the presence of the phloroglucinol derivative hyperforin, the naphthodianthrones hypericin and pseudohypericin, the phenylpropane chlorogenic acid and the flavonoids rutin, hyperoside, kaempferol, isoquercetine, quercitrine, and quercetine was investigated in Hypericum leptophyllum Hochst., an endemic Turkish species for the first time. The aerial parts representing a total of 30 individuals were collected at full flowering and dissected into floral, leaf, and stem tissues. After being dried at room temperature, the plant materials were assayed for secondary metabolite concentrations by HPLC. Aerial plant parts accumulated chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, isoquercetine, quercitrine, and quercetine, but they did not accumulate hyperforin, hypericin, pseudohypericin, rutin, and kaempferol. Accumulation levels of the detected compounds varied with plant tissues. Such kind of data could be useful for elucidation of the chemotaxonomical significance of the corresponding compounds and phytochemical evaluation of this endemic species

The present study was conducted to determine the variation in the content of several plant chemicals, namely hyperforin, hypericin, pseudohypericin, chlorogenic acid, rutin, hyperoside, isoquercetine, kaempferol, quercitrine and quercetine among five Hypericum pruinatum Boiss. & Bal. populations from Northern Turkey. The aerial parts representing a total of 30 shoots were collected at full flowering. After dried at room temperature, they were assayed for the chemicals by HPLC and the presence of isoquercetine and kaempferol in this species was reported by us for the first time. The populations varied significantly in chemical contents. Plants from Ladik population produced the highest amount of hypericin, chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, isoquercetine, quercitrine and quercetine. Hyperforin and rutin of whole shoots reached the highest level in Cankiri population. The chemical variation among the populations and plant parts was discussed as possible results of different genetic and environmental factors

Ranking of Responsible Automotive Manufacturers According to Sustainability Reports Using PROMETHEE and VIKOR Methods

Industrial activities and road transportation are the main contributors to air quality degradation and resource depletion. The automotive sector, which is one of the main players of the manufacturing industry and the supplier of road transport demand, is considered one of the most prominent symbols of pollution. Therefore, the issue of sustainability in the automotive industry is critical as it poses a wide range of challenges and negative externalities on the environment and society. This study aims to present a list of responsible consumption and production dimensions in line with the 12th United Nations Sustainable Development Goal and to rank the auto and auto part manufacturers in the Fortune Global 250. The authors use content analysis and text mining to identify 13 dimensions underlying responsible consumption and production. They then weigh each dimension according to the preferences of the experts using Delphi and the Analytical Hierarchy Process. After examining the dimensions in the sustainability reports of the selected companies, they rank them using the PROMETHEE and VIKOR techniques. They also show the robustness of the rankings

Civic Engagement among University Students: Case of a Turkish Public University

This study aimed to investigate the effect of certain background variables (gender, attending student club, newspaper reading, home residence, level of mother education, and level of father education) on university students' level of civic engagement in university setting. The study also aimed to explore if there were any significant differences among the three dimensions of civic engagement: students' activism, exercising rights, and interest in politics. The study employed causal comparative design and the sample involved 1074 undergraduate students who were selected by stratified sampling from all faculties of a Turkish public university. The data were collected by a self-developed Civic Engagement Scale and analyzed by Two-Way MANOVA and One-Way Repeated ANOVA analyses. One-Way Repeated ANOVA results indicated that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of three dimensions of civic engagement. More specifically, the level of students' activism was significantly lower than the level of students' exercising their rights and the level of their interest in politics. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the level of students' exercising their rights and interest in politics. Moreover, Two-Way MANOVA results showed that all selected variables had a significant effect on the three dimensions of students' civic engagement

The role of innovation and perceived service quality in creating customer value: a study on employees of a call center establishment

    No full text
In this research it is aimed to examine the role of innovations in services, processes and managerial practices on customer value creation. Most of the studies in the literature support that the innovation is considered as one of the most important factors that affect customer value. Nevertheless, there has been relatively little significant research focusing on these issues. The research framework developed in this study was tested by 1117 call center employees in Turkey. In this context, as a result of statistical analysis applied to the data obtained from employees in call center establishment; it's accepted that a significant relationships were found between the variables. Accordingly, innovations on services and processes affect customer value positively
