Computer program predicts performance of fluorine-hydrogen main tank injection pressurization system for full range of liquid-hydrogen-fueled space vehicles. Analytical model includes provisions for heat transfer, injectant jet penetration, and ullage gas mixing. Analysis predicts GF2 usage, ullage gas and tank wall temperatures, and LH2 evaporation

Performance Analysis of Beethoven\u27s Violin Sonata Op.23: Freedom of Interpretation in Passages of Formal Anomaly

    Get PDF
Beethovens Violin and Piano Sonata Op. 23 in A minor is a multi-movement sonata that has three unexpected formal events: two occurring in the Presto (movement one) and one in the Allegro Molto (movement three). These formal anomalies, discovered through the creation of form diagrams, present potentially challenging moments of interpretation for performers. The question this project addresses is whether or not the three areas of formal anomaly allow performers more freedom in personal interpretation than normative formal events. The results of this research show that performers do take additional freedom in interpretation during such unexpected formal events

A Study of Near Field Data Transformed to the Far Field for a Canonical PEC Scatterer

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research was to analyze the error associated with the Image Based Near Field to Far Field Transformation (IB NFFFT) for a canonical perfectly electrically conductive (PEC) scatterer. This research compares two groups of data: far field RCS predicted by the IB NFFFT and far field RCS predicted by X-Patch. The IB NFFFT requires a complete set of calibrated monostatic near field scattering data of the object. A detailed description is given of the configuration of the measurement facilities and procedures that were required to obtain the calibrated near field scattering data, as well as the process for implementing the transformation. Additional chamber characterization techniques are also presented. For this research, a 2-foot long aluminum cylinder of 3-inch diameter was used as the canonical scattering body

Optimal Occulter Design for Finding Extrasolar Planets

One proposed method for finding terrestrial planets around nearby stars is to use two spacecraft--a telescope and a specially shaped occulter that is specifically designed to prevent all but a tiny fraction of the starlight from diffracting into the telescope. As the cost and observing cadence for such a mission will be driven largely by the separation between the two spacecraft, it is critically important to design an occulter that can meet the observing goals while flying as close to the telescope as possible. In this paper, we explore this tradeoff between separation and occulter diameter. More specifically, we present a method for designing the shape of the outer edge of an occulter that is as small as possible and gives a shadow that is deep enough and large enough for a 4m telescope to survey the habitable zones of many stars for Earth-like planets. In particular, we show that in order for a 4m telescope to detect in broadband visible light a planet 0.06 arcseconds from a star shining 101010^{10} times brighter than the planet requires a specially-shaped occulter 50m in diameter positioned about 72,00072,000 km in front of the telescope.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, 15 subfigure
