On the lumped damage modelling of reinforced concrete beams and arches

The analysis of reinforced concrete structures can be performed by means of experiments or numerical studies. The first way is usually quite expensive, so the second one sometimes is a good option to understand the physical behaviour of actual structures. Lumped damage mechanics appears as one of the latest nonlinear theories and presents itself as an interesting alternative to analyse the mechanical behaviour of reinforced concrete structures. The lumped damage mechanic applies concepts of the classic fracture and damage mechanics in plastic hinges for nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, this paper deals with a novel physical definition of the correction factor γ for cracking evolution that ensures the presented lumped damage model depicts accuracy when it is compared to experimental observations of reinforced concrete beams and arches. Based on such experiments, the numerical analysis showed that γ value has upper and lower thresholds, depending on the physical and geometric properties of the reinforced concrete element. Notwithstanding, for γ values inside of the proposed interval, there is a best value of γ

Much or More? Experiments of Rationality and Spite with School Children

Copyright © 2014 North American Journal of Pyschology.In a competitive environment the maximization of self-interest and the minimization of the other's interest can be seen as the two faces of the same coin. However, these motivations can lead to very different behaviors. In order to understand how these are expressed, we designed an experiment to measure the ability of children and teenagers to react to stimuli that induce behavior to act as a rational player (maximization of self interest) or as a spiteful player (minimization of other's interest). Each player faced the following dilemma: maximizing pay-off and incurring the risk of having a lower pay-off; or alternatively guaranteeing one’s own pay-off was not smaller than the opponent’s pay-off. A prize was attributed proportionally to the pay-off (Treatment 1) or to the player with highest pay-off (Treatment 2), which meant that the optimal behavior was different for each treatment. We performed experiments with 398 Portuguese children and teenagers and found evidence that younger children tended to be maximizers (in both variants) and that teenagers tended towards rational behavior when it was best for them and towards spiteful behavior when the latter was more advantageous

ANALYSIS OF THE SPRINTS FEATURES DURING FUTSAL MATCHES

The purpose of this study was to analyse the repeated-sprint sequences (RSS) and to characterise the sprints performed during futsal matches. Automatic tracking system was used to obtain the player’s trajectories (n=97) during five official matches. The sprints were analysed during the both halves and RSS were categorised according to the number of sprints and the time between them. The results showed a decrease in the number of sprints per minute in the second half. However, the duration of the sprints was greater in the second half. For the RSS analysis, the results showed that the most frequent RSS consisted of two sprints interspersed with a maximum of 15 s of recovery. The study characterised the features of sprinting of futsal players, which can help coaches to plan physical training and assessments according to the sport requirements

A Dimensão Religiosidade/Espiritualidade na Prática Clínica: Revisão Integrativa da Literatura Científica

This study presents an integrative review on how religiousness/spirituality (R/S) is present in the scientific literature on clinical practice in Psychology. The searches in LILACS, SciELO, PePSIC, MEDLINE/PubMed and PsycINFO databases (January 2010/March 2016) showed 50 predominantly qualitative productions published in international journals. It was evidenced that R/S has been incorporated into the notions of health, care and integrality, being recognized as a dimension with cultural aspects that must be considered in clinical practice. The literature presents some protocols and strategies that can be used in clinical practice as an alternative to integrate R/S to the care offered. It is suggested that Brazilian researchers continue to investigate the topic in order to offer ethical and innovative practices regarding the difficulties faced by psychotherapists and newly graduates.Este estudo apresenta uma revisão integrativa sobre como a religiosidade/espiritualidade (R/E) está presente na literatura científica acerca da prática clínica em Psicologia. As buscas nas bases LILACS, SciELO, PePSIC, MEDLINE/PubMed e PsycINFO (janeiro 2010/março 2016) recuperaram 50 produções predominantemente qualitativas e publicadas em periódicos internacionais. Evidenciou-se que a R/E vem sendo incorporada nas noções de saúde, cuidado e integralidade, sendo reconhecida como dimensão que possui aspectos culturais que devem ser considerados na clínica. A literatura apresenta alguns protocolos e estratégias que podem ser empregados na prática clínica como forma de integrar a R/E ao cuidado oferecido. Sugere-se que os pesquisadores brasileiros continuem investigando o tema, visando a fornecer subsídios para práticas éticas e inovadoras quanto às dificuldades enfrentadas pelos psicoterapeutas e recém-formados
