Group 13 Decamethylmetallocenium Cations
Salts containing the decamethylmetallocenium cations, [( C5Me5) M-2](+) ( or Cp*M-2(+)) of the group 13 "metals" B, Al and Ga have been prepared using a variety of synthetic routes. Precursor molecules of the type Cp*2MX ( X = Cl, Br, Me) exhibit structural features that vary significantly depending on the size and electronegativity of the central atom. While salt metathesis, halide abstraction and methanide abstraction methods represent viable routes for the preparation of salts of Cp*B-2(+) and Cp*Al-2(+), acidolysis of a Cp* group from Cp*Ga-3 is the most reliable method for the synthesis of the analogous gallium cation. Gallocenium cations are less stable than either of the lighter congeneric cations since they prove to be susceptible to decomposition reactions involving the "back-transfer" of ligands from the counter anion. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that, whereas Cp*Ga-2(+) is predicted to adopt a molecular structure more similar to that of Cp*B-2(+), the electronic structure of the gallium cation bears a greater resemblance to that of Cp*Al-2(+).Chemistr
Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of clinically extremely vulnerable children and children living with clinically extremely vulnerable people in Wales: a data linkage study
Objectives: To determine whether clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) children or children living with a CEV person in Wales were at greater risk of presenting with anxiety or depression in primary or secondary care during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with children in the general population and to compare patterns of anxiety and depression during the pandemic (23 March 2020–31 January 2021, referred to as 2020/2021) and before the pandemic (23 March 2019–31 January 2020, referred to as 2019/2020), between CEV children and the general population. Design: Population-based cross-sectional cohort study using anonymised, linked, routinely collected health and administrative data held in the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage Databank. CEV individuals were identified using the COVID-19 shielded patient list. Setting: Primary and secondary healthcare settings covering 80% of the population of Wales. Participants: Children aged 2–17 in Wales: CEV (3769); living with a CEV person (20 033); or neither (415 009). Primary outcome measure: First record of anxiety or depression in primary or secondary healthcare in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, identified using Read and International Classification of Diseases V.10 codes. Results: A Cox regression model adjusted for demographics and history of anxiety or depression revealed that only CEV children were at greater risk of presenting with anxiety or depression during the pandemic compared with the general population (HR=2.27, 95% CI=1.94 to 2.66, p<0.001). Compared with the general population, the risk among CEV children was higher in 2020/2021 (risk ratio 3.04) compared with 2019/2020 (risk ratio 1.90). In 2020/2021, the period prevalence of anxiety or depression increased slightly among CEV children, but declined among the general population. Conclusions: Differences in the period prevalence of recorded anxiety or depression in healthcare between CEV children and the general population were largely driven by a reduction in presentations to healthcare services by children in the general population during the pandemic

Mononuclear and multinuclear phosphido, arsenido, and stibido complexes of aluminum, gallium and indium
" The present invention involves chemical compounds particularly useful for the preparation of thin films or layers of group 3/group 5 materials by MOCVD and other techniques. Such compounds may be represented as having the formulas [M(ER'R"").sub.3 ].sub.n or [RM(ER'R"").sub.2 ].sub.n or [R.sub.2 M(ER'R"")].sub.n wherein M is aluminum, gallium or indium; E is phosphorus, arsenic or antimony; R, R', and R"" are one or more of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkyl-substituted aryl, cyclic alkyl, halide or other anionic group; and n is between about 1 and about 6. Point of care intravenous anaesthetic measurement in anaesthesia and critical care
Maintenance of anaesthesia using the intravenous agent propofol has increased following development of pharmacokinetic models. An analyser capable of determining propofol concentrations at the point of care may lead to an improved accuracy of drug delivery. Validation work on a novel analyser measuring propofol concentration in near real time demonstrate a high level of precision for samples in the clinical range.
Further work in the clinical setting was carried out using the novel propofol analyser to further research its potential use in a diverse patient cohort. Studies were performed in intensive care correlating blood propofol concentrations with depth of sedation, demonstrating a correlation with organ failure. The Marsh model of Target Controlled Anaesthesia was poorer at predicting propofol concentration in patients with significant organ dysfunction than in those without organ failure (correlation coefficient 0.36 vs. 0.73 respectively). Studies in the operating room were performed in which measured propofol concentrations were compared with those predicted using the Marsh model. Results demonstrated significant inaccuracies of the model (bias 32%, precision -8.7 to 72.6%). A method of Marsh model bias correction using a single blood propofol measurement was tested. Results demonstrated insufficient predictability to allow a single point calibration
Spiritual Maturity: An Exploratory Study and Model for Social Work Practice
Spiritual maturity is a fundamental dimension of human development that can help inform macro and micro level social work practice. On the macro level we need spiritually mature leaders who can help form coalitions of spiritually maturing people across the boundaries of nation, religion, class, gender, culture, and race. At the micro scale, there is a need for spiritually mature parents, leaders, and professional healers who have the courage, wisdom, and skills required to help navigate families and local communities through the stormy seas of accelerating ecobiopsychosocial-spiritual change. It is our premise that this task of describing spiritual maturity can and must be accomplished. In this paper, we report the findings of a study we have conducted, which explored how 200 adults view spiritual maturity. Implications of these findings for local and global social work practice are then advanced
From Shared Governance to Shared Leadership: Our COVID Response to Faculty Evaluation, Support, and Advancement
As a state comprehensive university in a small, midwestern metropolitan area, “Students First” is more than a slogan. The preamble to our Faculty Constitution and our University’s mission statement both specify that students and their flourishing are the justification for our institution’s existence. We have learned, however, that a precondition to robust attention to students’ well-being is parallel attention to the well-being and development of our faculty. This article chronicles the principles and practices by which our shared leadership team responded to unique challenges presented by the COVID crisis and its ripple effects. A closing theme acknowledges that COVID revealed latent, pre-existing gaps in our care for faculty and students as well as introducing new and temporary challenges, and that some of our resulting solutions may require institutionalization as permanent fixtures
