    Sequence determination of a satellite RNA isolated from Aspergillus foetidus

    Aspergillus foetidus virus (AfV) has at least two distinct particle types, designated as AfV-fast (F) and AfV-slow (S). AfV-S includes AfV-S1, a victorivirus; AfV-S2, an unclassified satellite RNA; and AfV-S3, a previously uncharacterized dsRNA element. Here, we describe the complete sequence of AfV-S3, which is a short non-coding RNA with no known homologs. AfV-S3 is predicted to form an extended secondary structure, shares a 5’ terminus with AfV-S2, and is a satellite RNA possibly dependent on both AfV-S1 and AfV-S2.     Radiation resistance and comparative performance of ITO/InP and n/p InP homojunction solar cells

    The radiation resistance of ITO/InP cells processed by DC magnetron sputtering is compared to that of standard n/p InP and GaAs homojunction cells. After 20 MeV proton irradiations, it is found that the radiation resistance of the present ITO/InP cell is comparable to that of the n/p homojunction InP cell and that both InP cell types have radiation resistance significantly greater than GaAs. The relatively lower radiation resistance, observed at higher fluence, for the InP cell with the deepest junction depth, is attributed to losses in the cells emitter region. Diode parameters obtained from I sub sc - V sub oc plots, data from surface Raman spectroscopy, and determinations of surface conductivity types are used to investigate the configuration of the ITO/InP cells. It is concluded that thesee latter cells are n/p homojunctions, the n-region consisting of a disordered layer at the oxide semiconductor

Typically, polymycoviruses have four genomic segments, although some have up to eight. The genus Polymycovirus includes several species whose members infect fungi (ascomycetes and basidiomycetes), and oomycetes, altering host morphology, sporulation, growth and virulence.     The polymycovirus-mediated growth enhancement of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana is dependent on carbon and nitrogen metabolism

    Polymycoviridae is a growing family of mycoviruses whose members typically have non-conventional capsids and multi-segmented, double-stranded (ds) RNA genomes. Beauveria bassiana polymycovirus (BbPmV) 1 is known to enhance the growth and virulence of its fungal host, the entomopathogenic ascomycete and popular biological control agent B. bassiana. Here we report the complete sequence of BbPmV-3, which has six genomic dsRNA segments. Phylogenetic analysis of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) protein sequences revealed that BbPmV-3 is closely related to the partially sequenced BbPmV-2 but not BbPmV-1. Nevertheless, both BbPmV-3 and BbPmV-1 have similar effects on their respective host isolates ATHUM 4946 and EABb 92/11-Dm, affecting pigmentation, sporulation, and radial growth. Production of conidia and radial growth are significantly enhanced in virus-infected isolates as compared to virus-free isogenic lines on Czapek-Dox complete and minimal media that contain sucrose and sodium nitrate. However, this polymycovirus-mediated effect on growth is dependent on the carbon and nitrogen sources available to the host fungus. Both BbPmV-3 and BbPmV-1 increase growth of ATHUM 4946 and EABb 92/11-Dm when sucrose is replaced by lactose, trehalose, glucose, or glycerol, while the effect is reversed on maltose and fructose. Similarly, both BbPmV-3 and BbPmV-1 decrease growth of ATHUM 4946 and EABb 92/11-Dm when sodium nitrate is replaced by sodium nitrite, potassium nitrate, or ammonium nitrate. In conclusion, the effects of polymycoviruses on B. bassiana are at least partially mediated via its metabolic pathways

    The Chrysoviridae is a family of small, isometric, non-enveloped viruses (40 nm in diameter) with segmented dsRNA genomes (typically four segments). The genome segments are individually encapsidated and together comprise 11.5–12.8 kbp. The single genus Chrysovirus includes nine species. Chrysoviruses lack an extracellular phase to their life cycle; they are transmitted via intracellular routes within an individual during hyphal growth, in asexual or sexual spores, or between individuals via hyphal anastomosis. There are no known natural vectors for chrysoviruses.     Use of CR100 scale for session-RPE in soccer and interchangeability with CR10

Purpose: To examine the construct validity of the session rating perceived exertion (s-RPE) assessed with the Borg CR100® scale to measure training loads in elite soccer and to examine if the CR100® is interchangeable and can provide more accurate ratings compared to the CR10® scale. Methods: Two studies were conducted. The validity of the CR100® was determined in 19-elite soccer players (age 28 ± 6 y, height 180 ± 7 cm, body mass 77 ± 6 kg) during training sessions through correlations with Edwards heart rate method (study one). The interchangeability with CR10® was assessed in 78 soccer players (age 19.3 ± 4.1 y, height 178 ± 5.9 cm, body mass 71.4 ± 6.1 kg) through Bland?Altman method and correlations between change scores in different sessions. To examine whether the CR100® is more fine graded than the CR10®, the proportion of responses corresponding to the verbal expressions were calculated (study two). Results: Individual correlations between Edwards' and s-RPE were large to very large (0.52 to 0.85). The mean difference between the two scales was -0.3 ± 0.33 AU (90% CI -0.41 to -0.29 AU) with 95% limits of agreements 0.31 to -0.96 AU. Correlations between scales and between changes scores were nearly perfect (0.95 and 0.91 to 0.98). Ratings corresponding to the verbal anchors were 49% in CR10® and 26% in CR100®. Conclusions: The CR100® is valid for assessing the training load in elite soccer players. It can be used interchangeably with the CR10® and may provide more precise measures of exercise intensity

    This paper expands on a recent polynomial matrix formulation for a minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) broadband beamformer. Within the polynomial matrix framework, this beamformer is a straightforward extension from the narrowband case, and offers advantages in terms of complexity and robustness particularly for off-broadside constraints. Here, we focus on arbitrary 3-dimensional array configurations of no particular structure, where the straightforward formulation and incorporation of constraints is demonstrated in simulations, and the beamformer accurately maintains its look direction while nulling out interferers
