High-magnetic field lattice length changes in URu2Si2
We report high magnetic field (up to 45 T) c-axis thermal expansion and
magnetostriction experiments on URu2Si2 single crystals. The sample length
change associated with the transition to the hidden order phase becomes
increasingly discontinous as the magnetic field is raised above 25 T. The
re-entrant ordered phase III is clearly observed in both the thermal expansion
and magnetostriction above 36 T, in good agreement with previous results. The
sample length is also discontinuous at the boundaries of this phase, mainly at
the upper boundary. A change in the sign of the coefficient of
thermal-expansion is observed at the metamagnetic transition (B_M = 38 T) which
is likely related to the existence of a quantum critical end point.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be published in PR
Quark--anti-quark potential in N=4 SYM
We construct a closed system of equations describing the quark--anti-quark
potential at any coupling in planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. It is
based on the Quantum Spectral Curve method supplemented with a novel type of
asymptotics. We present a high precision numerical solution reproducing the
classical and one-loop string predictions very accurately. We also analytically
compute the first 7 nontrivial orders of the weak coupling expansion.
Moreover, we study analytically the generalized quark--anti-quark potential
in the limit of large imaginary twist to all orders in perturbation theory. We
demonstrate how the QSC reduces in this case to a one-dimensional Schrodinger
equation. In the process we establish a link between the Q-functions and the
solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figure; v2: minor correcton
The quark anti-quark potential and the cusp anomalous dimension from a TBA equation
We derive a set of integral equations of the TBA type for the generalized
cusp anomalous dimension, or the quark antiquark potential on the three sphere,
as a function of the angles. We do this by considering a family of local
operators on a Wilson loop with charge L. In the large L limit the problem can
be solved in terms of a certain boundary reflection matrix. We determine this
reflection matrix by using the symmetries and the boundary crossing equation.
The cusp is introduced through a relative rotation between the two boundaries.
Then the TBA trick of exchanging space and time leads to an exact equation for
all values of L. The L=0 case corresponds to the cusped Wilson loop with no
operators inserted. We then derive a slightly simplified integral equation
which describes the small angle limit. We solve this equation up to three loops
in perturbation theory and match the results that were obtained with more
direct approaches.Comment: 63 pages, 12 figures. v2: references added, typos correcte

Antifungal Activity of Selected Indigenous Pseudomonas and Bacillus from the Soybean Rhizosphere
The purpose of this study was to isolate and select indigenous soil Pseudomonas and Bacillus bacteria capable of developing multiple mechanisms of action related to the biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi affecting soybean crops. The screening procedure consisted of antagonism tests against a panel of phytopathogenic fungi, taxonomic identification, detection by PCR of several genes related to antifungal activity, in vitro detection of the antifungal products, and root colonization assays. Two isolates, identified and designated as Pseudomonas fluorescens BNM296 and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BNM340, were selected for further studies. These isolates protected plants against the damping-off caused by Pythium ultimum and were able to increase the seedling emergence rate after inoculation of soybean seeds with each bacterium. Also, the shoot nitrogen content was higher in plants when seeds were inoculated with BNM296. The polyphasic approach of this work allowed us to select two indigenous bacterial strains that promoted the early development of soybean plants
