Adaptive Transmission Opportunity Scheme Based on Delay Bound and Network Load in IEEE 802.11e Wireless LANs
The IEEE 802.11e EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Channel Access) is able to provide QoS (Quality of Service) by adjusting the transmission opportunities (TXOPs), which control the period to access the medium. The EDCA has a fairness problem among competing stations, which support multimedia applications with different delay bounds. In this paper, we propose a simple and effective scheme for alleviating the fairness problem. The proposed scheme dynamically allocates the TXOP value based on the delay bounds of the data packets in a queue and the traffic load of network. Performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by simulation. Our results show that compared to conventional scheme, the proposed scheme significantly improves network performance, and achieves a high degree of fairness among stations with different multimedia applications
Determining the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of a compacted sand-bentonite mixture under constant volume and free-swell conditions
Highly compacted sand-bentonite mixtures are often considered as possible
engineered barriers in deep high-level radioactive waste disposals. In-situ,
the saturation of these barriers from their initially unsaturated state is a
complex hydro-mechanical coupled process in which temperature effects also play
a role. The key parameter of this process is the unsaturated hydraulic
conductivity of the barrier. In this paper, isothermal infiltration experiments
were conducted to determine the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity according to
the instantaneous profile method. To do so, total suction changes were
monitored at different locations along the soil specimen by using resistivity
relative humidity probes. Three constant volume infiltration tests were
conducted showing, unexpectedly, a decrease of the hydraulic conductivity
during infiltration. One test performed under free-swell conditions showed the
opposite and standard trend. These observations were interpreted in terms of
microstructure changes during wetting, both under constant volume and free
swell conditions
Solution and Asymptotic Behavior for a Nonlocal Coupled System of Reaction-Diffusion
This paper concerns with existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior of the
solutions for a nonlocal coupled system of reaction-diffusion. We prove the
existence and uniqueness of weak solutions by the Faedo-Galerkin method and
exponential decay of solutions by the classic energy method. We improve the
results obtained by Chipot-Lovato and Menezes for coupled systems. A numerical

The TOD Evaluation Method Evaluating TOD on Station Area and Corridor Scales
Capstone paper for the fulfillment of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree.The Metropolitan Councilâs Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Policy defines TOD as walkable, moderate to high density development served by frequent transit with a mix of housing, retail, and employment choices designed to allow people to live and work without need of a personal automobile. As the Metropolitan Council expands the regionâs transit network, the regional planning agency and transit provider has an interest in facilitating TOD
implementation along existing and future transit corridors. Understanding the degree to which transit corridors and station areas are potential places for TOD helps public agencies implement TOD. To date, the Metropolitan Council does not have a system for evaluating the potential for TOD along transit corridors and within station areas. Instead, TOD evaluation is typically performed on a project-by-project basis without considering the existing corridor and station area. This report proposes a TOD Scoring Tool and Framework for the Metropolitan Council to use to evaluate the suitability of transit corridors and station areas for TOD. The TOD Scoring Tool is based on the Framework, which focus on three categories of variables informed by scholarly research and

Molecular pathogenesis of spondylocheirodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome caused by mutant ZIP13 proteins.
The zinc transporter protein ZIP13 plays critical roles in bone, tooth, and connective tissue development, and its dysfunction is responsible for the spondylocheirodysplastic form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (SCD-EDS, OMIM 612350). Here, we report the molecular pathogenic mechanism of SCD-EDS caused by two different mutant ZIP13 proteins found in human patients: ZIP13(G64D), in which Gly at amino acid position 64 is replaced by Asp, and ZIP13(ÎFLA), which contains a deletion of Phe-Leu-Ala. We demonstrated that both the ZIP13(G64D) and ZIP13(ÎFLA) protein levels are decreased by degradation via the valosin-containing protein (VCP)-linked ubiquitin proteasome pathway. The inhibition of degradation pathways rescued the protein expression levels, resulting in improved intracellular Zn homeostasis. Our findings uncover the pathogenic mechanisms elicited by mutant ZIP13 proteins. Further elucidation of these degradation processes may lead to novel therapeutic targets for SCD-EDS
A measurement of lifetime differences in the neutral D-meson system
Using a high statistics sample of photoproduced charm particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab, we compare the lifetimes of neutral D mesons
decaying via D0 to K- pi+ and K- K+ to measure the lifetime differences between
CP even and CP odd final states. These measurements bear on the phenomenology
of D0 - D0bar mixing. If the D0 to K-pi+ is an equal mixture of CP even and CP
odd eigenstates, we measure yCP = 0.0342 \pm 0.0139 \pm 0.0074.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure
Measurements of the Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++} Mass Splittings
Using a high statistics sample of photoproduced charmed particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab (FNAL-E831), we measure the mass splittings of the
charmed baryons Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++}. We find M(Sigma_c^0 - Lambda_c^+) =
167.38 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13 MeV/c^2 and M(Sigma_c^++ - Lambda_c^+) = 167.35 +/-
0.19 +/- 0.12 MeV/c^2 with samples of 362 +/- 36 and 461 +/- 39 events,
respectively. We measure the isospin mass splitting M(Sigma_c^++ - Sigma_c^0)
to be -0.03 +/- 0.28 +/- 0.11 Mev/c^2. The first errors are statistical and the
second are systematic.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Precise measurement of hadronic tau-decays with an eta meson
We have studied hadronic tau decay modes involving an eta meson using 490
fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy
e+e- collider. The following branching fractions have been measured: B(tau- ->
K- eta nu)=(1.58 +- 0.05 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}, B(tau- -> K- pi0 eta nu)=(4.6 +-
1.1 +- 0.4)x 10^{-5}, B(tau- -> pi- pi0 eta nu)=(1.35 +- 0.03 +- 0.07)x
10^{-3}, B(tau- -> pi- KS eta nu)=(4.4 +- 0.7 +- 0.2)x 10^{-5}, and B(tau- ->
K^{*-} eta nu)=(1.34 +- 0.12 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}. These results are substantially
more precise than previous measurements. The new measurements are compared with
theoretical calculations based on the CVC hypothesis or the chiral perturbation
theory. We also set upper limits on branching fractions for tau decays into K-
KS eta nu, pi- KS pi0 eta nu, K- eta eta nu, pi- eta eta nu and non-resonant K-
pi^0 eta nu final states.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure
