    Essential Constraints of Edge-Constrained Proximity Graphs

    Given a plane forest F=(V,E)F = (V, E) of V=n|V| = n points, we find the minimum set SES \subseteq E of edges such that the edge-constrained minimum spanning tree over the set VV of vertices and the set SS of constraints contains FF. We present an O(nlogn)O(n \log n )-time algorithm that solves this problem. We generalize this to other proximity graphs in the constraint setting, such as the relative neighbourhood graph, Gabriel graph, β\beta-skeleton and Delaunay triangulation. We present an algorithm that identifies the minimum set SES\subseteq E of edges of a given plane graph I=(V,E)I=(V,E) such that ICGβ(V,S)I \subseteq CG_\beta(V, S) for 1β21 \leq \beta \leq 2, where CGβ(V,S)CG_\beta(V, S) is the constraint β\beta-skeleton over the set VV of vertices and the set SS of constraints.     Photocatalytic removal of cyclohexane on visible light-driven gallium oxide/carbon nitride composites prepared by impregnation

    Carbon nitride is a material of interest for photocatalytic reactions due to its catalytic and visible light absorption properties. However, its photocatalytic activity is still low. Hence, modifications must be carried out to improve the photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride. In this work, a series of gallium oxide/carbon nitride composites with various gallium to carbon ratios (Ga/C = 1-50 mol%) was prepared by impregnation method for removal of cyclohexane under visible light irradiation for the first time. The successful preparation of gallium oxide/carbon nitride composites was supported by several characterization techniques. Xray diffraction (XRD) patterns and diffuse reflectance UV-visible (DR UV-vis) spectra revealed that the increased Ga/C ratio resulted in the increased formation of Ga2O3. Furthermore, all the prepared composite samples also showed visible light absorption up to about 430 nm. In the photocatalytic removal of cyclohexane under 6 h of visible light irradiation, sample with low loading of 1 mol% Ga/C improved the photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride for two times. The high activity obtained on the gallium oxide (1 mol%)/carbon nitride composite clearly suggested the presence of synergic effect between small amount of gallium oxide and carbon nitride when they were combined. This study showed that a visible light-driven gallium oxide/carbon nitride composite could be prepared by impregnating a small amount of gallium oxide on carbon nitride and the composite is a potential photocatalyst for removal of cyclohexane under visible light irradiation

    Photocatalytic removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid herbicide on copper oxide/titanium dioxide prepared by co-precipitation method

    In this work, suppression of the charge recombination on the titanium dioxide (TiO2) was reported by the addition of copper oxide (CuO), which led to a higher activity of TiO2 for removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) herbicide. A series of CuO/TiO2 with CuO loadings of 0.1-1 wt% was prepared through a co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that the presence of CuO could not be detected as the low loading amount of CuO might have good dispersion on the surface of TiO2. Diffuse reflectance UV-visible spectra suggested that low loading amount of CuO did not influence the optical property of TiO2. Fluorescence spectroscopy revealed that TiO2 possessed a dominant emission peak of 407 nm at an excitation wavelength of 218 nm. The increasing loading amount of CuO decreased the emission intensity of TiO2, suggesting the successful reduction of charge recombination. After irradiation under UV light for 1 h, CuO(0.1 wt%)/TiO2 gave the highest percentage removal of the herbicide among the samples. The optimum loading amount of CuOmight improve the charge separation and reduce the electron-hole recombination on TiO2 without blocking the active sites, thus leading to the improved photocatalytic activity.     Multiple shells driven by disk winds: ALMA observations in the HH 30 outflow

    We present archive Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 6 observations of the 13^{13}CO (J=2-1) and 12^{12}CO (J=2-1) molecular line emission of the protostellar system associated with HH 30. The 13^{13}CO molecular line shows the accretion disk while the molecular outflow is traced by the emission of the 12^{12}CO molecular line. We estimated a dynamical mass for the central object of 0.45±0.140.45\pm0.14 M_\odot, and a mass for the molecular outflow of 1.83±0.19×1041.83\pm0.19\times10^{-4} M_\odot. The molecular outflow presents an internal cavity as well as multiple outflowing shell structures. We distinguish three different shells with constant expansion (46\sim4-6 km s1^{-1}) and possible rotation signatures (0.5\leq0.5 km s1^{-1}). We find that the shells can be explained by magnetocentrifugal disk winds with launching radii Rlaunch4R_\mathrm{launch}\lesssim4 au and a small magnetic lever arm λ1.61.9\lambda\sim1.6-1.9. The multiple shell structure may be the result of episodic ejections of the material from the accretion disk associated with three different epochs with dynamical ages of 497±15497\pm15 yr, 310±9310\pm9 yr, and 262±11262\pm11 yr for the first, second, and third shells, respectively. The outermost shell was ejected 187±17187\pm17 yr before the medium shell, while the medium shell was launched 48±1448\pm14 yr before the innermost shell. Our estimations of the linear and angular momentum rates of the outflow as well as the accretion luminosity are consistent with the expected values if the outflow of HH 30 is produced by a wide-angle disk wind

    Wood fuel consumption and mortality rates in Sub-Saharan Africa: evidence from a dynamic panel study

    This study examined the impact of wood fuel consumption on health outcomes, specifically under-five and adult mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa, where wood usage for cooking and heating is on the increase. Generalized method of moment (GMM) estimators were used to estimate the impact of wood fuel consumption on under-five and adult mortality (and also male and female mortality) in the region. The findings revealed that wood fuel consumption had significant positive impact on under-five and adult mortality. It suggests that over the studied period, an increase in wood fuel consumption has increased the mortality of under-five and adult. Importantly, it indicated that the magnitude of the effect of wood fuel consumption was more on the under-five than the adults. Similarly, assessing the effect on a gender basis, it was revealed that the effect was more on female than male adults. This finding suggests that the resultant mortality from wood smoke related infections is more on under-five children than adults, and also are more on female adults than male adults. We, therefore, recommended that an alternative affordable, clean energy source for cooking and heating should be provided to reduce the wood fuel consumption

    Non-polynomial Worst-Case Analysis of Recursive Programs

    We study the problem of developing efficient approaches for proving worst-case bounds of non-deterministic recursive programs. Ranking functions are sound and complete for proving termination and worst-case bounds of nonrecursive programs. First, we apply ranking functions to recursion, resulting in measure functions. We show that measure functions provide a sound and complete approach to prove worst-case bounds of non-deterministic recursive programs. Our second contribution is the synthesis of measure functions in nonpolynomial forms. We show that non-polynomial measure functions with logarithm and exponentiation can be synthesized through abstraction of logarithmic or exponentiation terms, Farkas' Lemma, and Handelman's Theorem using linear programming. While previous methods obtain worst-case polynomial bounds, our approach can synthesize bounds of the form O(nlogn)\mathcal{O}(n\log n) as well as O(nr)\mathcal{O}(n^r) where rr is not an integer. We present experimental results to demonstrate that our approach can obtain efficiently worst-case bounds of classical recursive algorithms such as (i) Merge-Sort, the divide-and-conquer algorithm for the Closest-Pair problem, where we obtain O(nlogn)\mathcal{O}(n \log n) worst-case bound, and (ii) Karatsuba's algorithm for polynomial multiplication and Strassen's algorithm for matrix multiplication, where we obtain O(nr)\mathcal{O}(n^r) bound such that rr is not an integer and close to the best-known bounds for the respective algorithms.Comment: 54 Pages, Full Version to CAV 201

    Non-Markovian stochastic description of quantum transport in photosynthetic systems

    We analyze several aspects of the transport dynamics in the LH1-RC core of purple bacteria, which consists basically in a ring of antenna molecules that transport the energy into a target molecule, the reaction center, placed in the center of the ring. We show that the periodicity of the system plays an important role to explain the relevance of the initial state in the transport efficiency. This picture is modified, and the transport enhanced for any initial state, when considering that molecules have different energies, and when including their interaction with the environment. We study this last situation by using stochastic Schr{\"o}dinger equations, both for Markovian and non-Markovian type of interactions.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figure
