Hubungan Antara Prestasi Kerja Pegawai, Elastisitas Kerja Dan Kepuasan Kerja (Studi Pada Dinas Perkebunan Provinsi Sulawesi Utara)

New evidence shows that letting people vote early benefits Republicans while Election-Day Registration helps Democrats

While Republicans tend to make it harder for people to vote through initiatives such as Voter ID requirements, Democrats tend to be in favor of measures which make voting easier, such as early and Election-Day registration. But do both measures advocated by Democrats actually have an impact on turnout? Barry Burden, David Canon, Ken Mayer and Donald Moynihan have examined vote returns across three presidential elections and find that while Election-Day registration laws are better at stimulating those who are on the fence to turn out – usually Democrats, early voting measures tend to encourage those who have already decided to vote – usually Republicans

Comparative study of the effect of long-term ageing on the behaviour of bitumen and mastics with mineral fillers

This paper is based on a part of the research project carried out at the request of the German Research Foundation (DFG), under research project No. WE 1642/1-2 and LE 3649/1-2 (FOR2089).This study aims to evaluate the effect of mineral fillers on bitumen ageing. Two different bitumens and four mastics were investigated in the unaged and long-term aged states, based on different properties (consistency, rheology, fatigue resistance and ductility). Mastics stiffened less due to ageing treatment than bitumens, especially with granite filler. However, the results of the performance tests were not definitive regarding the effect of the filler. Aged bitumen showed greater fatigue resistance and higher specific energy of ductile fracture than unaged bitumen, whereas the mastics showed minor variations in the specific energy of ductile fracture with ageing treatment, which is indicative of less ageing, but the fatigue resistance decreased significantly in mastics with one of the bitumens.authorsversionpublishe

Second order gradient ascent pulse engineering

We report some improvements to the gradient ascent pulse engineering (GRAPE) algorithm for optimal control of quantum systems. These include more accurate gradients, convergence acceleration using the BFGS quasi-Newton algorithm as well as faster control derivative calculation algorithms. In all test systems, the wall clock time and the convergence rates show a considerable improvement over the approximate gradient ascent.Comment: Submitted for publicatio

Descriptive and Substantive Representation in Congress: Evidence from 80,000 Congressional Inquiries

A vast literature debates the efficacy of descriptive representation in legislatures. Though studies argue it influences how communities are represented through constituency service, they are limited since legislators’ service activities are unobserved. Using Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, we collected 88,000 records of communication between members of the U.S. Congress and federal agencies during the 108th–113th Congresses. These legislative interventions allow us to examine members’ “follow‐through” with policy implementation. We find that women, racial/ethnic minorities, and veterans are more likely to work on behalf of constituents with whom they share identities. Including veterans offers leverage in understanding the role of political cleavages and shared experiences. Our findings suggest that shared experiences operate as a critical mechanism for representation, that a lack of political consensus is not necessary for substantive representation, and that the causal relationships identified by experimental work have observable implications in the daily work of Congress.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/150606/1/ajps12443-sup-0001-SuppMat.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/150606/2/ajps12443.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/150606/3/ajps12443_am.pd

The divided zygoma: a meta-analysis of its prevalence with a review of the literature

Background: Divided zygoma (DZ) is an important structure in the midfacial region. The anatomy of DZ is poorly researched, but knowledge about this entity could be useful during posttraumatic facial reconstructions. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and anatomy of DZ in different regions around the world. Therefore, the authors performed a meta-analysis, including all studies that report extractable data on the DZ. Materials and methods: The main online medical databases such as PubMed, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, SciELO, BIOSIS, Current Content Connect, Korean Journal Database and Russian Citation Index, were utilized to gather all studies on anatomical characteristics, prevalence, symmetry, and a number of divisions of zygomatic bone. Results: A total of 20 studies were included in this meta-analysis. Data were grouped and analyzed in 5 categories: (1) prevalence of DZ bone, (2) prevalence of DZ skulls, (3) gender prevalence of DZ with sides, (4) divisions of zygomatic bone, (5) symmetry of DZ. Conclusion: In conclusion, the authors of the present study believe that this is this study can be considered and up-to-date meta-analysis regarding the prevalence, divisions, and symmetricity of the DZ. The data provided by the present study may be useful information for physicians in recognizing the DZ of the fracture and may be important information during zygomatic bone osteotomy. Detailed anatomical knowledge of the midfacial region can prevent surgical complications when operating in this area
