The liver in amoebic disease
During the past 8 years, 305 cases of amoebic disease have been examined at the Department of Diagnostic Radio-isotopes of the H. F. Verwoerd Hospital, Pretoria. Analysis of the data obtained by means of scintigraphy in 247 of these patients indicates that in vivo scintigraphy of the liver is a valuable method for the investigation of many aspects of the disease. Our observations on the localisation of the abscesses, the relationship between localisation and the frequency of complications, the macroscopical changes in the liver during the disease, the presence of a generalised reaction of the liver parenchyma to amoebae in some cases, and the healing rate of abscesses under different types of treatment, are reported in this article.S. Supersymmetry of the Schrodinger and PP Wave Solutions in Einstein-Weyl Supergravities
We obtain the Schrodinger and general pp-wave solutions with or without the
massive vector in Einstein-Weyl supergravity. The vector is an auxiliary field
in the off-shell supermultiplet and it acquires a kinetic term in the
Weyl-squared super invariant. We study the supersymmetry of these solutions and
find that turning on the massive vector has a consequence of breaking all the
supersymmetry. The Schrodinger and also the pp-wave solutions with the massive
vector turned off on the other hand preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry.Comment: 13 pages, no figur

feeding value of South African natural pastures is presented.
2. Both pasture and blood analysis confirm the earlier statement
that practically all South African pastures are low in phosphorus for
the greater part of the year.
3. Crude protein varies more or less directly as the phosphorus content of the pasture and is extraordinarily low during certain
seasons of the year.
4. Generally, the sodium content of the samples is so low that
it suggests an insufficiency of sodium for producing animals on
pasturage.

the areas of collection and not necessarily of the pasture actually

Size and shape analysis of error-prone shape data
We consider the problem of comparing sizes and shapes of objects when landmark data are prone to measurement error. We show that naive implementation of ordinary Procrustes analysis that ignores measurement error can compromise inference. To account for measurement error, we propose the conditional score method for matching configurations, which guarantees consistent inference under mild model assumptions. The effects of measurement error on inference from naive Procrustes analysis and the performance of the proposed method are illustrated via simulation and application in three real data examples. Supersymmetric solutions of PT-/non-PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian Screened Coulomb potential via Hamiltonian hierarchy inspired variational method
The supersymmetric solutions of PT-symmetric and Hermitian/non-Hermitian
forms of quantum systems are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation for
the Exponential-Cosine Screened Coulomb potential. The Hamiltonian hierarchy
inspired variational method is used to obtain the approximate energy

Exploring morphological correlations among H2CO, 12CO, MSX and continuum mappings
There are relatively few H2CO mappings of large-area giant molecular cloud
(GMCs). H2CO absorption lines are good tracers for low-temperature molecular
clouds towards star formation regions. Thus, the aim of the study was to
identify H2CO distributions in ambient molecular clouds. We investigated
morphologic relations among 6-cm continuum brightness temperature (CBT) data
and H2CO (111-110; Nanshan 25-m radio telescope), 12CO (1--0; 1.2-m CfA
telescope) and midcourse space experiment (MSX) data, and considered the impact
of background components on foreground clouds. We report simultaneous 6-cm H2CO
absorption lines and H110\alpha radio recombination line observations and give
several large-area mappings at 4.8 GHz toward W49 (50'\times50'), W3
(70'\times90'), DR21/W75 (60'\times90') and NGC2024/NGC2023 (50'\times100')
GMCs. By superimposing H2CO and 12CO contours onto the MSX color map, we can
compare correlations. The resolution for H2CO, 12CO and MSX data was about 10',
8' and 18.3", respectively. Comparison of H2CO and 12CO contours, 8.28-\mu m
MSX colorscale and CBT data revealed great morphological correlation in the
large area, although there are some discrepancies between 12CO and H2CO peaks
in small areas. The NGC2024/NGC2023 GMC is a large area of HII regions with a
high CBT, but a H2CO cloud to the north is possible against the cosmic
microwave background. A statistical diagram shows that 85.21% of H2CO
absorption lines are distributed in the intensity range from -1.0 to 0 Jy and

B_c meson rare decays in the light-cone quark model
We investigate the rare decays
and in the framework of the
light-cone quark model (LCQM). The transition form factors are calculated in
the space-like region and then analytically continued to the time-like region
via exponential parametrization. The branching ratios and longitudinal lepton
polarization asymmetries (LPAs) for the two decays are given and compared with
each other. The results are helpful to investigating the structure of
meson and to testing the unitarity of CKM quark mixing matrix. All these

Distributed phase-covariant cloning with atomic ensembles via quantum Zeno dynamics
We propose an interesting scheme for distributed orbital state quantum
cloning with atomic ensembles based on the quantum Zeno dynamics. These atomic
ensembles which consist of identical three-level atoms are trapped in distant
cavities connected by a single-mode integrated optical star coupler. These
qubits can be manipulated through appropriate modulation of the coupling
constants between atomic ensemble and classical field, and the cavity decay can
be largely suppressed as the number of atoms in the ensemble qubits increases.
The fidelity of each cloned qubit can be obtained with analytic result. The
present scheme provides a new way to construct the quantum communication

The preparation of HEMA-MPC films for ocular drug delivery
There is a need to prolong drug residence time using a biocompatible formulation in the subconjunctival space after surgery to treat glaucoma. Drug releasing discs were prepared with 2-(hydroxyethyl)methacrylate (HEMA) and 2-methacryloyl-oxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC). The ratio of bound water (Wb) to free water (Wf) ratio increased from 1:0.3 to 1:6.8 with increasing MPC (0 to 50%, w/w). The optimal balance between water content, SR and mechanical strength were obtained with 10% MPC (w/w) hydrogels. Water-alcohol mixtures were examined to facilitate loading of poorly soluble drugs, and they showed greater hydrogel swelling than either water or alcohol alone. The SR was 1.2 ± 0.02 and 3.3 ± 0.1 for water and water:ethanol (1:1) respectively. HEMA-MPC (10%) discs were loaded with dexamethasone using either water:ethanol (1:1) or methanol alone. Drug release was examined in an outflow rig model that mimics the subconjunctival space in the eye. Dexamethasone loading increased from 0.3 to 1.9 mg/disc when the solvent was changed from water:ethanol (1:1) to methanol with the dexamethasone half-life (t½) increasing from 1.9 to 9.7 days respectively. These encouraging results indicate that HEMA-MPC hydrogels have the potential to sustain the residence time of a drug in the subconjunctival space of the eye
