Performance Evaluation of Road Traffic Control Using a Fuzzy Cellular Model
In this paper a method is proposed for performance evaluation of road traffic
control systems. The method is designed to be implemented in an on-line
simulation environment, which enables optimisation of adaptive traffic control
strategies. Performance measures are computed using a fuzzy cellular traffic
model, formulated as a hybrid system combining cellular automata and fuzzy
calculus. Experimental results show that the introduced method allows the
performance to be evaluated using imprecise traffic measurements. Moreover, the
fuzzy definitions of performance measures are convenient for uncertainty

The Kagome Antiferromagnet with Defects: Satisfaction, Frustration, and Spin Folding in a Random Spin System
It is shown that site disorder induces noncoplanar states, competing with the
thermal selection of coplanar states, in the nearest neighbor, classical kagome
Heisenberg antiferromagnet (AFM). For weak disorder, it is found that the
ground state energy is the sum of energies of separately satisfied triangles of
spins. This implies that disorder does not induce conventional spin glass
behavior. A transformation is presented, mapping ground state spin
configurations onto a folded triangular sheet (a new kind of ``spin origami'')

Antiferromagnetism and Its Relation to the Superconducting Phases of UPt3
Using magnetic x-ray and neutron diffraction in UPt3, we find that a suppression of the antiferromagnetic scattering intensity in the superconducting phase is due to a reduction in the magnitude of the staggered moment with no change in symmetry. The existence of the suppression as well as the magnetic correlation lengths are not affected by the presence or absence of a visible splitting in the superconducting transition. The simplest models wherein antiferromagnetic order provides the symmetry-breaking field for the splitting do not provide a compete explanation of our results
Second-order corrections to slow-roll inflation in the brane cosmology
We calculate the power spectrum, spectral index, and running spectral index
for the RS-II brane inflation in the high-energy regime using the slow-roll
expansion. There exist several modifications. As an example, we take the
power-law inflation by choosing an inverse power-law potential. When comparing
these with those arisen in the standard inflation, we find that the power
spectrum is enhanced and the spectral index is suppressed, while the running
spectral index becomes zero as in the standard inflation. However, since
second-order corrections are rather small, these could not play a role of
distinguishing between standard and brane inflations.Comment: 6 page
Divergent effects of static disorder and hole doping in geometrically frustrated b-CaCr2O4
The gallium substituted and calcium deficient variants of geometrically
frustrated b-CaCr2O4, b-CaCr2-2xGa2xO4 (0.02<= x<= 0.25) and b-Ca1-yCr2O4
(0.075<= y<= 0.15), have been investigated by x-ray powder diffraction,
magnetization and specific heat measurements. This allows for a direct
comparison of the effects, in a geometrically frustrated magnet, of the static
disorder that arises from non-magnetic substitution and the dynamic disorder
that arises from hole doping. In both cases, disturbing the Cr3+ lattice
results in a reduction in the degree of magnetic frustration. On substitution
of Ga, which introduces disorder without creating holes, a gradual release of
spins from ordered antiferromagnetic states is observed. In contrast, in the
calcium deficient compounds the introduction of holes induces static
ferrimagnetic ordering and much stronger perturbations of the b-CaCr2O4 host.Comment: 23 pages, 10 figure
Anomalous heavy-fermion and ordered states in the filled skutterudite PrFe4P12
Specific heat and magnetization measurements have been performed on
high-quality single crystals of filled-skutterudite PrFe_4P_{12} in order to
study the high-field heavy-fermion state (HFS) and low-field ordered state
(ODS). From a broad hump observed in C/T vs T in HFS for magnetic fields
applied along the direction, the Kondo temperature of ~ 9 K and the
existence of ferromagnetic Pr-Pr interactions are deduced. The {141}-Pr nuclear
Schottky contribution, which works as a highly-sensitive on-site probe for the
Pr magnetic moment, sets an upper bound for the ordered moment as ~ 0.03
\mu_B/Pr-ion. This fact strongly indicates that the primary order parameter in
the ODS is nonmagnetic and most probably of quadrupolar origin, combined with
other experimental facts. Significantly suppressed heavy-fermion behavior in
the ODS suggests a possibility that the quadrupolar degrees of freedom is
essential for the heavy quasiparticle band formation in the HFS. Possible
crystalline-electric-field level schemes estimated from the anisotropy in the

Direct-Acting Antiviral Hepatitis C Treatment Cascade and Barriers to Treatment Initiation among US Men and Women with and without HIV
Background: People with HIV are disproportionately coinfected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and experience accelerated liver-related mortality. Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) yield high sustained virologic response (SVR) rates, but uptake is suboptimal. This study characterizes the DAA-era HCV treatment cascade and barriers among US men and women with or at risk for HIV. Methods: We constructed HCV treatment cascades using the Women's Interagency HIV Study (women, 6 visits, 2015-2018, n=2447) and Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (men, 1 visit, 2015-2018, n=2221). Cascades included treatment-eligible individuals (ie, HCV RNA-positive or reported DAAs). Surveys captured self-reported clinical (eg, CD4), patient (eg, missed visits), system (eg, appointment access), and financial/insurance barriers. Results: Of 323/92 (women/men) treatment eligible, most had HIV (77%/70%); 69%/63% were black. HIV-positive women were more likely to attain cascade outcomes than HIV-negative women (39% vs 23% initiated, 21% vs 12% SVR); similar discrepancies were noted for men. Black men and substance users were treated less often. Women initiating treatment (vs not) reported fewer patient barriers (14%/33%). Among men not treated, clinical barriers were prevalent (53%). Conclusions: HIV care may facilitate HCV treatment linkage and barrier navigation. HIV-negative individuals, black men, and substance users may need additional support. Phenotypic Dissection of Bone Mineral Density Reveals Skeletal Site Specificity and Facilitates the Identification of Novel Loci in the Genetic Regulation of Bone Mass Attainment
Heritability of bone mineral density (BMD) varies across skeletal sites, reflecting different relative contributions of genetic and environmental influences. To quantify the degree to which common genetic variants tag and environmental factors influence BMD, at different sites, we estimated the genetic (rg) and residual (re) correlations between BMD measured at the upper limbs (UL-BMD), lower limbs (LL-BMD) and skull (SK-BMD), using total-body DXA scans of ~4,890 participants recruited by the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and their Children (ALSPAC). Point estimates of rg indicated that appendicular sites have a greater proportion of shared genetic architecture (LL-/UL-BMD rg = 0.78) between them, than with the skull (UL-/SK-BMD rg = 0.58 and LL-/SK-BMD rg = 0.43).
