Systematic TLM Measurements of NiSi and PtSi Specific Contact Resistance to n- and p-Type Si in a Broad Doping Range
We present the data on specific silicide-to-silicon contact resistance (Ïc) obtained using optimized transmission-line model structures, processed for a broad range of various n- and p-type Si doping levels, with NiSi and PtSi as the silicides. These structures, despite being attractive candidates for embedding in the CMOS processes, have not been used for NiSi, which is the material of choice in modern technologies. In addition, no database for NiSiâsilicon contact resistance exists, particularly for a broad range of doping levels. This letter provides such a database, using PtSi extensively studied earlier as a reference

Presupernova Evolution of Differentially Rotating Massive Stars Including Magnetic Fields
As a massive star evolves through multiple stages of nuclear burning on its
way to becoming a supernova, a complex, differentially rotating structure is
set up. Angular momentum is transported by a variety of classic instabilities,
and also by magnetic torques from fields generated by the differential
rotation. We present the first stellar evolution calculations to follow the
evolution of rotating massive stars including, at least approximately, all
these effects, magnetic and non-magnetic, from the zero-age main sequence until
the onset of iron-core collapse. The evolution and action of the magnetic
fields is as described by Spruit 2002 and a range of uncertain parameters is
explored. In general, we find that magnetic torques decrease the final rotation
rate of the collapsing iron core by about a factor of 30 to 50 when compared
with the non-magnetic counterparts. Angular momentum in that part of the
presupernova star destined to become a neutron star is an increasing function
of main sequence mass. That is, pulsars derived from more massive stars will
rotate faster and rotation will play a more dominant role in the star's
explosion. The final angular momentum of the core is determined - to within a
factor of two - by the time the star ignites carbon burning. For the lighter
stars studied, around 15 solar masses, we predict pulsar periods at birth near
15 ms, though a factor of two range is easily tolerated by the uncertainties.

A review of technological solutions to prevent or reduce marine plastic litter in developing countries
Growing global plastic production combined with poor waste collection has led to increasing amounts of plastic debris being found in oceans, rivers and on shores. The goal of this study is to provide an overview on currently available technological solutions to tackle marine plastic litter and to assess their potential use in developing countries. To compile an inventory of technological solutions, a dedicated online platform was developed. A total of 51 out of initially 75 submitted solutions along the plastics value chain were assessed by independent experts. Collection systems represent more than half of the shortlisted solutions. A quarter include processing and treatment technologies, either as a stand-alone solution (30%) or, more commonly, in combination with a first litter capturing step. Ten percent offer digital solutions. The rest focuses on integrated waste management solutions. For each stage in the source-to-sea spectrumâland, rivers, seaâtwo illustrative examples are described in detail. This study concludes that the most cost-effective type of solution tackles land-based sources of marine litter and combines technology with people-oriented practices, runs on own energy sources, connects throughout the plastics value chain with a convincing valorization plan for captured debris, and involves all relevant stakeholders
Discovery of magnetic fields in the very young, massive stars W601 (NGC 6611) and OI 201 (NGC 2244)
Context: Recent spectropolarimetric observations of Herbig Ae/Be stars have
yielded new arguments in favour of a fossil origin for the magnetic fields of
intermediate mass stars. Aims: To study the evolution of these magnetic fields,
and their impact on the evolution of the angular momentum of these stars during
the pre-main sequence phase, we observed Herbig Ae/Be members of young open
clusters of various ages. Methods: We obtained high-resolution
spectropolarimetric observations of Herbig Ae/Be stars belonging to the young
open clusters NGC 6611 (< 6 Myr), NGC 2244 (~1.9 Myr), and NGC 2264 (~8 Myr),
using ESPaDOnS at theCanada-France-Hawaii Telescope. Results: Here we report
the discovery of strong magnetic fields in two massive pre-main sequence
cluster stars. We detected, for the first time, a magnetic field in a pre-main
sequence rapid rotator: the 10.2 Msun Herbig B1.5e star W601 (NGC 6611; v sin i
~ 190 km/s). Our spectropolarimetric observations yield a longitudinal magnetic
field larger than 1 kG, and imply a rotational period shorter than 1.7 days.
The spectrum of this very young object (age ~ 0.017 Myr) shows strong and
variable lines of He and Si. We also detected a magnetic field in the 12.1 Msun
B1 star OI 201 (NGC 2244; v sin i = 23.5 km/s). The Stokes V profile of this
star does not vary over 5 days, suggesting a long rotational period, a pole-on
orientation, or aligned magnetic and rotation axes. OI 201 is situtated near
the Zero-Age Main Sequence on the HR diagram, and exhibits normal chemical
abundances and no spectrum variability.Comment: Accepted for publication as a letter in A&
Expressiveness modulo Bisimilarity of Regular Expressions with Parallel Composition (Extended Abstract)
The languages accepted by finite automata are precisely the languages denoted
by regular expressions. In contrast, finite automata may exhibit behaviours
that cannot be described by regular expressions up to bisimilarity. In this
paper, we consider extensions of the theory of regular expressions with various
forms of parallel composition and study the effect on expressiveness. First we
prove that adding pure interleaving to the theory of regular expressions
strictly increases its expressiveness up to bisimilarity. Then, we prove that
replacing the operation for pure interleaving by ACP-style parallel composition
gives a further increase in expressiveness. Finally, we prove that the theory
of regular expressions with ACP-style parallel composition and encapsulation is
expressive enough to express all finite automata up to bisimilarity. Our
results extend the expressiveness results obtained by Bergstra, Bethke and
Ponse for process algebras with (the binary variant of) Kleene's star

The Projected Rotational Velocity Distribution of a Sample of OB stars from a Calibration based on Synthetic He I lines
We derive projected rotational velocities (vsini) for a sample of 156
Galactic OB star members of 35 clusters, HII regions, and associations. The HeI
lines at 4026, 4388, and 4471A were analyzed in order to define
a calibration of the synthetic HeI full-widths at half maximum versus stellar
vsini. A grid of synthetic spectra of HeI line profiles was calculated in
non-LTE using an extensive helium model atom and updated atomic data. The
vsini's for all stars were derived using the He I FWHM calibrations but also,
for those target stars with relatively sharp lines, vsini values were obtained
from best fit synthetic spectra of up to 40 lines of CII, NII, OII, AlIII,
MgII, SiIII, and SIII. This calibration is a useful and efficient tool for
estimating the projected rotational velocities of O9-B5 main-sequence stars.
The distribution of vsini for an unbiased sample of early B stars in the
unbound association Cep OB2 is consistent with the distribution reported

Health utility values of breast cancer treatments and the impact of varying quality of life assumptions on cost-effectiveness
In breast cancer research, utility assumptions are outdated and inconsistent which may affect the results of quality adjusted life year (QALY) calculations and thereby cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs). Four hundred sixty four female patients with breast cancer treated at Erasmus MC, the Netherlands, completed EQ-5D-5L questionnaires from diagnosis throughout their treatment. Average utilities were calculated stratified by age and treatment. These utilities were applied in CEAs analysing 920 breast cancer screening policies differing in eligible ages and screening interval simulated by the MISCAN-Breast microsimulation model, using a willingness-to-pay threshold of âŹ20,000. The CEAs included varying sets on normative, breast cancer treatment and screening and follow-up utilities. Efficiency frontiers were compared to assess the impact of the utility sets. The calculated average patient utilities were reduced at breast cancer diagnosis and 6âmonths after surgery and increased toward normative utilities 12âmonths after surgery. When using normative utility values of 1 in CEAs, QALYs were overestimated compared to using average gender and age-specific values. Only small differences in QALYs gained were seen when varying treatment utilities in CEAs. The CEAs varying screening and follow-up utilities showed only small changes in QALYs gained and the efficiency frontier. Throughout all variations in utility sets, the optimal strategy remained robust; biennial for ages 40-76âyears and occasionally biennial 40-74âyears. In sum, we recommend to use gender and age stratified normative utilities in CEAs, and patient-based breast cancer utilities stratified by age and treatment or disease stage. Furthermore, despite varying utilities, the optimal screening scenario seems very robust.</p
