    A power-splitting relaying protocol for wireless energy harvesting and information processing in NOMA systems

    Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) along with cooperative communications have been recognized as promising candidates for the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks and have attracted many researchers. Every networked device however has its own limited power supply. To this extent, this paper investigates a power-splitting relaying (PSR) protocol for wireless energy harvesting and information processing in the NOMA systems to prolong the lifetime of the energy-constrained relay nodes in wireless networks so as to avail the ambient radio-frequency (RF) signal as well as to simultaneously harvest the energy and process the information. Decode-and-forward relaying is employed at the relay node where the energy from the received RF signal is harvested and exploited to forward the information to the destination. Specifically, the outage probability and ergodic rate of the PSR protocol are derived to realize the impacts of energy harvesting time, energy harvesting efficiency, power splitting ratio, source data rate, and the distance between nodes. It is also shown that an increased energy harvesting efficiency results in an enhanced performance and an outperformance in terms of the energy efficiency is achieved with the employment of the NOMA when compared to the conventional orthogonal multiple access. Numerical results are provided to verify the findings

    On the performance of NOMA in SWIPT systems with power-splitting relaying

    This paper presents a decode-and-forward (DF) relaying protocol, namely power-splitting relaying (PSR), employed at relay nodes in NOMA technique. The PSR is considered for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems. The relaying node is both energy harvesting from the received radio frequency (RF) signal and information forwarding to the destination. The outage performance and ergodic rate of the PSR are analyzed to realize the impacts of energy harvesting time, energy harvesting efficiency, power splitting ratio, source data rate, and the distance between the source and relay nodes. The simulation results show that NOMA schemes have the lower outage probability compared to the that of the conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes at the destination node. Numerical results are provided to verify the findings

    Advancement in the Development of Models for Hepatitis C Research

    Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a pandemic disease affecting an estimated 180 million individuals worldwide and infecting each year another ~3-4 million people making HCV a global public health issue. HCV is the main cause for chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In the United States, HCV-related chronic liver disease is a leading cause of liver transplantation. Despite significant improvements in antiviral drugs, only ~50% of treated patients with HCV have viral clearance after treatment. Showing unique species specificity, HCV has a narrow range of potential hosts infecting only chimpanzees and humans. For decades, the chimpanzee model has been the only and instrumental primate for studying HCV infection; however, availability, economic, and ethical issues make the chimpanzee an unsuitable animal model today. Thus, significant research has been devoted to explore different models that are suitable in studying the biology of the virus and application in the clinical research for developing efficient and tolerable treatments for patients.     Accounting conservatism and banking expertise on board of directors

    Previous studies show mixed evidence of the role of banking expertise on the board of directors on accounting conservatism. In this paper, we add to this growing literature by providing an innovative way to measure banking expertise based on life-time working history in banks of all individual directors on the board. We find that accounting conservatism is negatively affected by banking expertise on the board. Also, the results indicate that banking expertise on the board has a more pronounced impact on accounting conservatism when firms have high bankruptcy risk and when firms have high financial leverage. The evidence has some implications for boards of directors

    Sustainable Growth and Ethics: a Study of Business Ethics in Vietnam Between Business Students and Working Adults

    Sustainable growth is not only the ultimate goal of business corporations but also the primary target of local governments as well as regional and global economies. One of the cornerstones of sustainable growth is ethics. An ethical organizational culture provides support to achieve sustainable growth. Ethical leaders and employees have great potential for positive influence on decisions and behaviors that lead to sustainability. Ethical behavior, therefore, is expected of everyone in the modern workplace. As a result, companies devote many resources and training programs to make sure their employees live according to the high ethical standards. This study provides an analysis of Vietnamese business students’ level of ethical maturity based on gender, education, work experience, and ethics training. The results of data from 260 business students compared with 704 working adults in Vietnam demonstrate that students have a significantly higher level of ethical maturity. Furthermore, gender and work experience are significant factors in ethical maturity. While more educated respondents and those who had completed an ethics course did have a higher level of ethical maturity, the results were not statistically significant. Analysis of the results along with suggestions and implications are provided

    Leptoquark search at the Forward Physics Facility

    In this study, we calculate the sensitivity reach on the vector leptoquark (LQ) U1U_1 at the experiments proposed in Forward Physics Facility (FPF), including FASERν\nu, FASERν2\nu2, FLArE (10 tons), and FLArE (100 tons) using the neutrino-nucleon scattering (νNνN\nu N \rightarrow \nu N' and νNlN\nu N \rightarrow l N'). We cover a wide mass range of 10310^{-3} GeV MLQ104\leq M_{LQ}\leq 10^4 GeV. The new result shows that the FLArE (100 tons) offers the best sensitivity to the LQ model. The sensitivity curves for all the experiments follow a similar pattern with weakened sensitivities with the increment of the LQ mass.
