First Order Actions: a New View
We analyse systems described by first order actions using the Hamilton-Jacobi
(HJ) formalism for singular systems. In this study we verify that generalized
brackets appear in a natural way in HJ approach, showing us the existence of a
symplectic structure in the phase spaces of this formalism
Opportunities in utilization of agricultural residues in bio-composite production: Corn stalk (Zea mays indurata Sturt) and oak wood (Quercus Robur L.) fiber in medium density fiberboard
In this paper, corn stalk as an agricultural residue was mixed with oak wood fiber to produce medium density fiberboards (MDF). Urea formaldehyde resin was used as binder. Hygroscopic and mechanical properties were evaluated according to the commercial standards in MDF production. Partial substitution of wood fiber with corn stalks fiber negatively affected all board properties. However, the mechanical properties fulfill the minimum requirements of the relevant standards such as TS-EN 310, 1999 and TS-EN 319, 1999. In some cases, they exceeded the standards, even with partial blending of corn stalk fibers.Key words: Corn stalks, Quercus robur, medium density fiberboard, physical and mechanical properties

Hamilton-Jacobi treatment of a non-relativistic particle on a curved space
In this paper a non-relativistic particle moving on a hypersurface in a
curved space and the multidimensional rotator are investigated using the
Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. The equivalence with the Dirac Hamiltonian formalism
is demonstrated in both Cartesian and curvilinear coordinates. The energy
spectrum of the multidimensional rotator is equal to that of a pure
Laplace-Beltrami operator with no additional constant arising from the

Determination of periodic deformation from InSAR results using the FFT time series analysis method in Gediz Graben
Permanent Scatterers (PS) point velocities obtained by the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) method are generally determined using the linear regression model, which ignores periodic and seasonal effects. In this study, software was developed that can detect periodic effects by applying fast Fourier transformation (FFT) time series analysis to InSAR results. Using the FFT time series analysis, the periodic components of the surface movements at the PS points were determined, and then the annual velocity values free from periodic effects were obtained. The study area was chosen as the Gediz Graben, a tectonically active region where aseismic surface deformations have been observed in recent years. As a result, using the developed method, seasonal effects were successfully determined with the InSAR method at the PS points in the study area with a period of 384 days and an average amplitude of 19 mm. In addition, groundwater level changes of a water well in the region were modeled, and 0.93 correlation coefficient values were calculated between seasonal InSAR displacement values and water level changes. Thus, using the developed methodology, the relationship between the tectonic movement in the Gediz Graben in Turkey and the seasonal movements and the change in the groundwater level was determined

problems are \emph{unique} if and only if a common set of conditions are

pursuit denoising model, Lasso model, as well as other models that
either minimize or impose the constraint , where

is the unique solution if and only if has full column rank and there

condition is previously known to be sufficient for the basis pursuit model to
have a unique solution supported on . Indeed, it is also necessary, and
applies to a variety of other models. The paper also discusses ways to

Early changes in bone mineral density measured by digital X-ray radiogrammetry predict up to 20 years radiological outcome in rheumatoid arthritis
ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Change in bone mineral density (BMD) in the hand, as evaluated by digital X-ray radiogrammetry (DXR) of the II-IV metacarpal bones, has been suggested to predict future joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study's objective was to investigate if DXR-BMD loss early in the disease predicts development of joint damage in RA patients followed for up to 20 years. METHODS: 183 patients (115 women and 68 men) with early RA (mean disease duration 11 months) included from 1985 to 1989 were followed prospectively (the Lund early RA cohort). Clinical and functional measures were assessed yearly. Joint damage was evaluated according to the Larsen score on radiographs of hands and feet taken in years 0 to 5, 10, 15 and 20. These radiographs were digitized and BMD of the II-IV metacarpal bones was evaluated by DXR (Sectra, Linkoping. Sweden). Early DXR-BMD change rate (bone loss) per year calculated from the first 2 radiographs taken on average 9 months apart (SD 4.8) were available for 135 patients. Mean values of right and left hand were used. RESULTS: Mean early DXR-BMD loss during the first year calculated was -0.023 g/cm2 (SD 0.025). Patients with marked bone loss, i.e. early DXR-BMD loss above the median for the group, had significantly worse progression of joint damage at all examinations during the 20-year period. CONCLUSIONS: Early DXR-BMD progression rate predicted development of joint damage evaluated according to Larsen at year one and further onwards up to 20 years in this cohort of early RA patients
Prevalence of trypanosomes, salivary gland hypertrophy virus and Wolbachia in wild populations of tsetse flies from West Africa
Background: Tsetse flies are vectors of African trypanosomes, protozoan parasites that cause sleeping sickness (or human African trypanosomosis) in humans and nagana (or animal African trypanosomosis) in livestock. In addition to trypanosomes, four symbiotic bacteria Wigglesworthia glossinidia, Sodalis glossinidius, Wolbachia, Spiroplasma and one pathogen, the salivary gland hypertrophy virus (SGHV), have been reported in different tsetse species. We evaluated the prevalence and coinfection dynamics between Wolbachia, trypanosomes, and SGHV in four tsetse species (Glossina palpalis gambiensis, G. tachinoides, G. morsitans submorsitans, and G. medicorum) that were collected between 2008 and 2015 from 46 geographical locations in West Africa, i.e. Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana, Guinea, and Senegal. Results: The results indicated an overall low prevalence of SGHV and Wolbachia and a high prevalence of trypanosomes in the sampled wild tsetse populations. The prevalence of all three infections varied among tsetse species and sample origin. The highest trypanosome prevalence was found in Glossina tachinoides (61.1%) from Ghana and in Glossina palpalis gambiensis (43.7%) from Senegal. The trypanosome prevalence in the four species from Burkina Faso was lower, i.e. 39.6% in Glossina medicorum, 18.08%; in Glossina morsitans submorsitans, 16.8%; in Glossina tachinoides and 10.5% in Glossina palpalis gambiensis. The trypanosome prevalence in Glossina palpalis gambiensis was lowest in Mali (6.9%) and Guinea (2.2%). The prevalence of SGHV and Wolbachia was very low irrespective of location or tsetse species with an average of 1.7% for SGHV and 1.0% for Wolbachia. In some cases, mixed infections with different trypanosome species were detected. The highest prevalence of coinfection was Trypanosoma vivax and other Trypanosoma species (9.5%) followed by coinfection of T. congolense with other trypanosomes (7.5%). The prevalence of coinfection of T. vivax and T. congolense was (1.0%) and no mixed infection of trypanosomes, SGHV and Wolbachia was detected. Conclusion: The results indicated a high rate of trypanosome infection in tsetse wild populations in West African countries but lower infection rate of both Wolbachia and SGHV. Double or triple mixed trypanosome infections were found. In addition, mixed trypanosome and SGHV infections existed however no mixed infections of trypanosome and/or SGHV with Wolbachia were found
