    Power electronics options for large wind farm integration : VSC-based HVDC transmission

    This paper describes the use of voltage source converter based HVDC transmission (VSC transmission) system for grid integration of large wind farms over long distance. The wind farms can be based on either doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) or fixed speed induction generator (FSIG). The paper describes the operation principles and control strategies of the proposed system. Automatic power balancing during network AC fault is achieved without communication between the two converters. PSCAD/EMTDC simulations are presented to demonstrate the robust performance and to validate the proposed system during various operating conditions such as variations of generation and AC fault conditions.     Shell Cracking In Investment Casting with Laser Stereolithography Patterns

    This paper presents an investigation of ceramic shell cracking during the burnout process in investment casting with internally webbed laser stereolithography patterns. We hypothesize that shell cracking will occur when the rupture temperature of the ceramic shell is lower than both the glass transition temperature of the pattern material and the web· link buckling temperature. The hypothesis is validated by our experimental observations which confirm the numerical predictions from our fillite element analysis. This provides a basis for design of the internal web geometry of a lithography pa.tternand evaluation ofthe burnolltprocesswithsuch a pattern. We show the shell cracking and web link buckling temperatures to be functiollsofthe pattern geometry (including the cross~sectional dimensions and span length of the web link) and the shell thickness.Mechanical Engineerin

    Tensor coupling effects on spin symmetry in anti-Lambda spectrum of hypernuclei

    The effects of ΛˉΛˉω\bar\Lambda\bar\Lambda\omega-tensor coupling on the spin symmetry of Λˉ\bar{\Lambda} spectra in Λˉ\bar{\Lambda}-nucleus systems have been studied with the relativistic mean-field theory. Taking 12^{12}C+Λˉ\bar{\Lambda} as an example, it is found that the tensor coupling enlarges the spin-orbit splittings of Λˉ\bar\Lambda by an order of magnitude although its effects on the wave functions of Λˉ\bar{\Lambda} are negligible. Similar conclusions has been observed in Λˉ\bar{\Lambda}-nucleus of different mass regions, including 16^{16}O+Λˉ\bar{\Lambda}, 40^{40}Ca+Λˉ\bar{\Lambda} and 208^{208}Pb+Λˉ\bar{\Lambda}. It indicates that the spin symmetry in anti-lambda-nucleus systems is still good irrespective of the tensor coupling.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

    High-Field Electrical Transport in Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

    Using low-resistance electrical contacts, we have measured the intrinsic high-field transport properties of metallic single-wall carbon nanotubes. Individual nanotubes appear to be able to carry currents with a density exceeding 10^9 A/cm^2. As the bias voltage is increased, the conductance drops dramatically due to scattering of electrons. We show that the current-voltage characteristics can be explained by considering optical or zone-boundary phonon emission as the dominant scattering mechanism at high field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 eps figure

    Existence problem of proton semi-bubble structure in the 21+2_1^+ state of 34^{34}Si

    The fully self-consistent Hartree-Fock (HF) plus random phase approximation (RPA) based on Skyrme-type interaction is used to study the existence problem of proton semi-bubble structure in the 21+2_1^+ state of 34^{34}Si. The experimental excitation energy and the B(E2) strength of the 21+2_1^+ state in 34^{34}Si can be reproduced quite well. The tensor effect is also studied. It is shown that the tensor interaction has a notable impact on the excitation energy of the 21+2_1^+ state and a small effect on the B(E2) value. Besides, its effect on the density distributions in the ground and 21+2_1^+ state of 34^{34}Si is negligible. Our present results with T36 and T44 show that the 21+2_1^+ state of 34^{34}Si is mainly caused by proton transiton from π1d5/2\pi 1d_{5/2} orbit to π2s1/2\pi 2s_{1/2} orbit, and the existence of a proton semi-bubble structure in this state is very unlikely.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 3 table

    Meson-Baryon s-wave Resonances with Strangeness -3

    Starting from a consistent SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian (Phys. Rev. D74 (2006) 034025), we study the s-wave meson-baryon resonances in the strangeness S=-3 and negative parity sector. Those resonances are generated by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation with the WT interaction used as kernel. The considered mesons are those of the 35-SU(6)-plet, which includes the pseudoscalar (PS) octet of pions and the vector (V) nonet of the rho meson. For baryons we consider the 56-SU(6)-plet, made of the 1/2+ octet of the nucleon and the 3/2+ decuplet of the Delta. Quantum numbers I(J^P)=0(3/2^-) are suggested for the experimental resonances Omega*(2250)- and Omega*(2380)-. Among other, resonances with I=1 are found, with minimal quark content sss\bar{l}l', being s the strange quark and l, l' any of the the light up or down quarks. A clear signal for such a pentaquark would be a baryonic resonance with strangeness -3 and electric charge of -2 or 0, in proton charge units. We suggest looking for K- Xi- resonances with masses around 2100 and 2240 MeV in the sector 1(1/2^-), and for pi Omega- and K- Xi*- resonances with masses around 2260 MeV in the sector 1(3/2^-).Comment: 3 pages, 1 Postscript figure, 7 table

    Associated production of the charged Higgs boson and single top quark at the LHC

    The left-right twin Higgs(LRTH) model predicts the existence of the charged Higgs ϕ±\phi^{\pm}. In this paper, we study the production of the charged Higgs boson ϕ−\phi^{-} with single top quark via the process bg→tϕ−bg\to t\phi^{-} at the CERNCERN Large Hadron Collider(LHC). The numerical results show that the production cross section can reach the level of 10pb10 pb in the reasonable parameter space of the LRTH model. We expect that, as long as it is not too heavy, the possible signatures of the heavy charged Higgs boson ϕ−\phi^{-} might be detected via the decay mode ϕ−→tˉb\phi^{-}\to \bar{t}b at the LHC experiments.Comment: This paper has been withdrawn by the author(s) due to some mistakes in this pape
