Hadronic decay of a scalar B meson from the lattice
We explore the transitions B to B and B to B K from
lattice QCD with flavours of sea quark, using the static approximation
for the heavy quark. We evaluate the effective coupling constants, predicting a
B to B width of around 160 MeV. Our result for the coupling
strength adds to the evidence that the B meson is not predominantly a
molecular state (BK).Comment: 10 pages LATE
The three-loop beta function of SU(N) lattice gauge theories with Wilson fermions
We calculate the third coefficient of the lattice beta function associated
with the Wilson formulation for both gauge fields and fermions. This allows us
to evaluate the three-loop correction (linear in ) to the relation
between the lattice Lambda-parameter and the bare coupling , which is
important in order to verify asymptotic scaling predictions. Our calculation
also leads to the two-loop relation between the coupling renormalized in the
MSbar scheme and .
The original version of this paper contained a numerical error in one of the
diagrams, which has now been corrected. The calculations, as well as the layout
of the paper have remained identical, but there are some important changes in
the numerical results.Comment: One 14-page LaTeX file, one PostScript file containing 2 figures.
Corrected a numerical error in one of the diagrams. The calculations, as well
as the layout of the paper have remained unaffected, but there are some
important changes in the numerical result
Hadronic decays from the lattice
I review the lattice QCD approach to determining hadronic decay transitions.
Examples considered include rho to pi pi; b_1 to pi omega; hybrid meson decays
and scalar meson decays. I discuss what lattices can provide to help understand
the composition of hadrons.Comment: 6 pages, presented at QNP06, June 200
Penguin diagrams for improved staggered fermions
We calculate, at the one loop level, penguin diagrams for improved staggered
fermion operators constructed using various fat links. The main result is that
diagonal mixing coefficients with penguin operators are identical between the
unimproved operators and the improved operators using such fat links as Fat7,
Fat7+Lepage, , HYP (I) and HYP (II). In addition, it turns out
that the off-diagonal mixing vanishes for those constructed using fat links of
Fat7, and HYP (II). This is a consequence of the the fact that
the improvement by various fat links changes only the mixing with higher
dimension operators and off-diagonal operators. The results of this paper,
combined with those for current-current diagrams, provide the complete matching
at the one loop level with all corrections of included.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Hybrid meson decay from the lattice
We discuss the allowed decays of a hybrid meson in the heavy quark limit. We
deduce that an important decay will be into a heavy quark non-hybrid state and
a light quark meson, in other words, the de-excitation of an excited gluonic
string by emission of a light quark-antiquark pair.
We discuss the study of hadronic decays from the lattice in the heavy quark
limit and apply this approach to explore the transitions from a spin-exotic
hybrid to and where is a scalar meson. We obtain a
signal for the transition emitting a scalar meson and we discuss the
phenomenological implications.Comment: 18 pages, LATEX, 3 ps figure
Continuum Determination of Light Quark Masses from Quenched Lattice QCD
We compute the strange and the average up/down quark masses in the quenched
approximation of lattice QCD, by using the O(a)-improved Wilson action and
operators and by implementing the non-perturbative renormalization. Our
computation is performed at four values of the lattice spacing, from which we
could extrapolate to the continuum limit. Our final result for the strange
quark mass (in the MSbar scheme) is ms(2 GeV) = (106 +/- 2 +/- 8) MeV. For the
average up/down quark mass we have ml(2 GeV) = (4.4 +/- 0.1 +/- 0.4) MeV. The
ratio ms/ml = (24.3 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.6).Comment: 14 pages, 3 PostScript figure
Two body scattering length of Yukawa model on a lattice
The extraction of scattering parameters from Euclidean simulations of a
Yukawa model in a finite volume with periodic boundary conditions is analyzed
both in non relativistic quantum mechanics and in quantum field theory.Comment: 4 pages, talk at "18th International IUPAP conference on Few Body

Scaling of FLIC Fermions
Hadron masses are calculated in quenched lattice QCD on a variety of lattices
in order to probe the scaling behavior of the Fat-Link Irrelevant Clover (FLIC)
fermion action, a fat-link clover fermion action in which the purely irrelevant
operators of the fermion action are constructed using APE-smeared links. The
scaling analysis indicates FLIC fermions provide a new form of nonperturbative
O(a) improvement where near-continuum results are obtained at finite lattice
spacing.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables. Figure updated and references added.

Effects of Local and Nonlocal Substructure Spin on Localization in Tantalum Top-Hat Specimen
Effects of local and nonlocal substructure spin on the localization behavior of tantalum top-hat specimens subjected to high-rate compression are investigated. The orientation of a quadratic yield surface within the space of the intermediate configuration second Piola Kirchhoff stress is defined by a triad of substructure unit director vectors. Local evolution kinetics for the substructure directors are based on a plastic constitutive spin proportional to the non-coaxiality between stress and plastic rate of deformation within the spinless intermediate configuration. An extension of the local plastic constitutive spin to reflect nonlocal kinetics is made by attenuating or amplifying the spin rate depending on the misorientation of the substructure directors at a material point with those at adjacent material points within some neighborhood. Increased local spin rates tend to accentuate localization of plastic deformation and acts as a constitutive softening mechanism. On the other hand, the constraint imposed by nonlocal evolution of substructure orientation affects the plastic deformation field by reducing the propensity for flow, thus delaying localization and increasing the spatial coherence of the director vector field
