    Get PDF
The problem of wastage in Elementary Education System is becoming gradually very serious, across the world. Various methods have been proposed by researchers to measure real wastage in an Indian educational system, which seem to be inadequate because of multiple reasons. One of the main reasons is the occurrence of different type of wastages in the elementary education system. Further, there no reliable and consistent database, of educational statistics, that are available. In this paper, we wish to propose a method for measuring the real wastage by using the appropriate statistical technique of sampling

Clinical chemistry analyser is a high-performance microcontroller-based photometric biochemical analyser to measure various blood biochemical parameters such as blood glucose, urea, protein, bilirubin, and so forth, and also to measure and observe enzyme growth occurred while performing the other biochemical tests such as ALT (alkaline amino transferase), amylase, AST (aspartate amino transferase), and so forth. These tests are of great significance in biochemistry and used for diagnostic purposes and classifying various disorders and diseases such as diabetes, liver malfunctioning, renal diseases, and so forth. An inexpensive clinical chemistry analyser developed by the authors is described in this paper. This is an open system in which any reagent kit available in the market can be used. The system is based on the principle of absorbance transmittance photometry. System design is based around 80C31 microcontroller with RAM, EPROM, and peripheral interface devices. The developed system incorporates light source, an optical module, interference filters of various wave lengths, peltier device for maintaining required temperature of the mixture in flow cell, peristaltic pump for sample aspiration, graphic LCD display for displaying blood parameters, patients test results and kinetic test graph, 40 columns mini thermal printer, and also 32-key keyboard for executing various functions. The lab tests conducted on the instrument include versatility of the analyzer, flexibility of the software, and treatment of sample. The prototype was tested and evaluated over 1000 blood samples successfully for seventeen blood parameters. Evaluation was carried out at Government Medical College and Hospital, the Department of Biochemistry. The test results were found to be comparable with other standard instruments

Background: Conventional analgesics, used in peri-operative period cause numerous adverse effects and are not free from interactions with co-administered drugs. Gabapentin has been shown to be effective in various types of neuropathic pain. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate gabapentin as a post-operative analgesic. The study also evaluates the analgesic requirement and safety of gabapentin in post-operative period. Methods: Forty patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomized to receive gabapentin or a matching placebo. The patients of group I received gabapentin 600mg orally 2 hrs before surgery and 12hrs after the first dose. The patients in group II received a matching placebo. Patients in both groups received diclofenac sodium 75mg i.m b.i.d for pain. Additional doses were given on demand and recorded. Results: The present study found that gabapentin significantly reduced pain score and analgesic consumption as compared to a placebo for a period of 24 hours. Conclusions: Gabapentin in the doses used was found to be effective in postoperative pain in patients undergoing planned laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It was found to be safe and no serious adverse events were reported

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate heart rate variability(HRV) in beta(β) thalassemia major(TM) patients receiving different therapeutic aids in a hospital based comparative observational study. A total of 56 confirmed beta thalassemia major patients in the age range 5-20 years ,taken from the day care center of S.M.S.Medical College,Hospital,Jaipur were examined and the grouping was done on the basis of receiving of regular/irregular blood transfusion along with regular/irregular or no iron chelation therapy. They had no symptoms and signs of cardiovascular disease as assessed clinically ,routine laboratory profile and echocardiography. All patients underwent recording of impedance peripheral pulse in the right forearm for five minutes. All frequency and time domain HRV parameters were found to be significantly reduced in patients receiving irregular/no iron chelation therapy along with regular/irregular blood transfusion. Therefore TM patients should receive regular iron chelation therapy along with regular blood transfusion so as to prevent/delay iron overload which may influence cardiac autonomic balance

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of advancing age on heart rate variability(HRV) in beta(β) thalassemia major(TM) patients receiving regular blood transfusion in a hospital based comparative observational study. Day care center of S.M.S.Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur. A total of 51 confirmed beta thalassemia major patients in the age range 5-19 years were examined and the grouping was done on the basis of age. They had no symptoms and signs of cardiovascular disease as assessed clinically and by chest radiograph, routine laboratory profile and echocardiography. All patients underwent recording of impedance peripheral pulse in the right forearm for five minutes. All frequency domain HRV parameters were found to be reduced as age advanced in thalassemia patients who received regular blood transfusion. Regular iron chelation therapy along with regular blood transfusion may help/ delay iron overload which may influence cardiac autonomic balance affecting Heart rate variability

Background: Vaginosis is a widely prevalent syndrome in women. Treatment with one or more antibiotics cures invariably the infections. However recurrence is frequent and pH of the vagina is not always restored to the normal acidic range. This trial was conducted to determine whether a Polyherbal Microbicide BASANT or three selected strains of Probiotics Lactobacilli alone or the two in combination can regress Vaginosis, bring down the vaginal pH to acidic range and restore healthy vagina with colonised Lactobacilli. Methods: Women suffering from recurrent episodes of vaginosis were given capsules of either BASANT, Probiotics, Combination of the two or Placebo capsules for insertion in vagina for 7 nights. On day 10, Pelvic examination, pH, Whiff test, Gram stain for Clue cells and swab taken for culture of lactobacilli. Results: BASANT regressed Vaginosis in 14/ 20, Probiotics in 13/20, Combination of the two in 19/ 20 women and Placebo in 1/ 20 women. Conclusion: While both Polyherbal microbicide BASANT and the three strains of the lactobacilli cured Vaginosis in 65 to 70% of women, the combination was highly effective in curing 95% of women

Not AvailableSeed is recognized to be the cheapest source, yet most critical single input for enhancing vegetable productivity. Use of good quality seeds can result in 15–20% yield increase. The Indian vegetable seed sector is established with tremendous potential to grow beyond boundaries of domestic market. Being high value per unit weight, vegetable seed segment has a significant share in the overall seed market in monetary terms. Although the price of vegetable seeds in market is very high, farmers are facing problem of spurious seed, low germination percentage and unavailability of quality seeds on time. Research and development interventions are required to overcome these problems and an effort has been made to identify the priority areas where interventions are required in vegetable seed sector. This study was undertaken during 2014-16 by conducting a survey of vegetable and seed experts in which major constraints in vegetable seed sector were identified. The constraints are rank ordered as perceived by the respondents like exorbitantly high price of private sector hybrids (Score-680, Rank-1), unavailability of quality seeds of recommended/released hybrids and OP varieties of vegetables (Score-658, Rank-2) and many more which have been discussed and will draw attention on the issues related to the vegetable seed sector which needs priority in further research. Not Availabl

Making of a unique birth control vaccine against hCG with additional potential of therapy of advanced stage cancers and prevention of obesity and insulin resistance

    Get PDF
Reviewed is the work which led to the development of a unique vaccine that prevents pregnancy in sexually active women without impairment of ovulation and block of their making normally their sex steroid hormones. Being given that hCG is not expressed by non-pregnant females, immunization with the vaccine is devoid of any crossreaction with any tissue of the body. It is totally reversible and women regained fertility on decline of antibodies. A recombinant vaccine has been developed which is highly immunogenic in mice. It is undergoing extensive toxicology under GLP conditions in rodents and a primate species, the marmosets, before resumption of clinical trials. Ectopic expression of hCG or its subunits takes place in a variety of cancers, particularly at advanced stage with adverse survival and poor prognosis. Anti-hCG antibodies exercise therapeutic action against such cancers as indicated by in vitro culture and in vivo studies in nude mice. Transgenic hCG β mice put on weight and manifest insulin resistance. Immunization of these mice with the recombinant hCG β-LTB vaccine prevents obesity and insulin resistance.Fil: Talwar, G. P..
