    Knowledge co-production for urban equality

    This working paper serves as the basis for a critical examination of the notion of knowledge co-production. The paper examines how the idea of knowledge co-production has emerged in relation to the parallel but distinct concept of service co-production and the participatory development planning tradition. It also examines the variety of processes of knowledge co-production that may take place in the context of academic research. In doing so, the working paper highlights the centrality of knowledge co-production in the Knowledge in Action for Urban Equality (KNOW) project’s research strategy, with a focus on actionable knowledge that may support transformative trajectories towards urban equality. Such an approach is based on the view that knowledge production underpins the process, ethics, and outcomes of any urban development intervention

    Evaluation of patient visual comfort and repeatability of refractive values in non-presbyopic healthy eyes

    •AIM: To evaluate the intra-operator repeatability in healthy subjects using the WAM-5500 auto-kerato/refractometer and the iTrace aberrometer, to compare the refractive values and the subjective refraction obtained with both devices and to determine which of these three spherocylindrical corrections allows the subject to achieve the best visual comfort. •METHODS: Forty-two non-presbyopic healthy eyes of 42 subjects were enrolled in this prospective study. Refractive values were compared, evaluating the repeatability, the relationship between the methods and the best visual comfort obtained. •RESULTS: Sphere, cylinder and axis results showed good intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC); the highest ICC was obtained using the spherical refraction with the autorefractometer and the aberrometer, achieving levels of 0.999 and 0.998, respectively. The power vector (PV) was calculated for each refraction method, and the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between them (P>0.05). Direct comparison of PV measurements using the three methods showed that aberrometer refraction gave the highest values, followed by the subjective values; the autorefractometer gave the lowest values. The subjective method correction was most frequently chosen as the first selection. Equal values were found for the autorefractometer and the aberrometer as the second selection. •CONCLUSION: The iTrace aberrometer and the WAM-5500 auto-kerato/refractometer showed high levels of repeatability in healthy eyes. Refractive corrections with the aberrometer, the autorefractometer and subjective methods presented similar results, but spherocylindrical subjective correction was the most frequently selected option. These technologies can be used as complements in refractive evaluation, but they should not replace subjective refraction

    Pulmonary arterial wall disease in COPD and interstitial lung diseases candidates for lung transplantation

Pulmonary arterial vasculopathy is an early event in the natural history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and interstitial lung disease (ILD). The present study characterized the alterations in the structure and function of the pulmonary arterial (PA) wall of COPD and ILD candidates for lung transplantation (LTx). Methods A cohort of 73 patients, 63 pre-LTx (30 COPD, 33 ILD), and ten controls underwent simultaneous right heart catheterisation and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Total pulmonary resistance (TPR), capacitance (Cp), and the TPR-Cp relationship were assessed. PA stiffness and the relative area of wall thickness were estimated as pulse PA pressure/IVUS pulsatility and as [(external sectional area-intimal area)/external sectional area] × 100, respectively. Results Twenty-seven percent of patients had pulmonary arterial wedge pressure > 15 mmHg and were not analyzed. PA stiffness and the area of wall thickness were increased in comparison with controls, even in patients without PH (p < 0.05). ILD patients showed a significant higher PA stiffness, and lower Cp beyond mean PA pressure (mPAP) and lower area of wall thickness than COPD patients (p < 0.05). TPR-Cp relationship was shifted downward left for ILD patients. Conclusions Significant increase of PA stiffness and area of wall thickness were present even in patients without PH and can make the diagnosis of pulmonary vasculopathy at a preclinical stage in PH-lung disease candidates for LTx.     Tuning the magnetic ground state of a novel tetranuclear Nickel(II) molecular complex by high magnetic fields

    Electron spin resonance and magnetization data in magnetic fields up to 55 T of a novel multicenter paramagnetic molecular complex [L_2Ni_4(N_3)(O_2C Ada)_4](Cl O_4) are reported. In this compound, four Ni centers each having a spin S = 1 are coupled in a single molecule via bridging ligands (including a \mu_4-azide) which provide paths for magnetic exchange. Analysis of the frequency and temperature dependence of the ESR signals yields the relevant parameters of the spin Hamiltonian, in particular the single ion anisotropy gap and the g factor, which enables the calculation of the complex energy spectrum of the spin states in a magnetic field. The experimental results give compelling evidence for tuning the ground state of the molecule by magnetic field from a nonmagnetic state at small fields to a magnetic one in strong fields owing to the spin level crossing at a field of ~25 T.Comment: revised version, accepted for publication in Physical Review

    Antiferromagnetic Dimers of Ni(II) in the S=1 Spin-Ladder Na_2Ni_2(C_2O_4)_3(H_2O)_2

    We report the synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the S=1 2-leg spin-ladder compound Na_2Ni_2(C_2O_4)_3(H_2O)_2. The magnetic properties were examined by magnetic susceptibility and pulsed high field magnetization measurements. The magnetic excitations have been measured in high field high frequency ESR. Although the Ni(II) ions form structurally a 2-leg ladder, an isolated dimer model consistently describes the observations very well. The analysis of the temperature dependent magnetization data leads to a magnetic exchange constant of J=43 K along the rungs of the ladder and an average value of the g-factor of 2.25. From the ESR measurements, we determined the single ion anisotropy to D=11.5 K. The validity of the isolated dimer model is supported by Quantum Monte Carlo calculations, performed for several ratios of interdimer and intradimer magnetic exchange and taking into account the experimentally determined single ion anisotropy. The results can be understood in terms of the different coordination and superexchange angles of the oxalate ligands along the rungs and legs of the 2-leg spin ladder.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figure

    Human Liver Glycogen Phosphorylase (HLGP) can catalyze glycogen and control the release of glucose-1-phosphate of glycogen from the liver. This enzyme has a central role in output rule of liver glucose as it can be used as an antidiabetic drug targets. Docking studies were carried out on PC with Intel Pentium, 1 GB RAM, in environment of Windows 7. Ligands used are drug compounds (Z12501572, Z00321025, SCB5631028 and SCB13970547), the active dataset comparator wasglycogenphosphorylase outer dimer site (PYGL-out) and decoys from www.dekois.com andzerumbonederivates. Protein was separated from its native ligand and all ligands including the protein were converted to pdbqt using PyRx. The interaction of protein-ligand was visualized using software of PLIP and PyMOL. Compound of ZER11 had the best binding energy were -7.11 kcal/mol (LGA and GA) and -4.08 kcal/mol (SA). The binding energy value was lower than the ligand native and one of the four drug compounds, especially compared with the binding affinity of dataset and decoys. Vice versa, for Vina method, the value of ligand binding protein for ZER11 (-9.9 kcal/mol) was better than the ligand native and all of the fourth drugcompounds. Vina result showed that ZER11 had the same residual interaction as the ligand native, which are TRP67 and LYS191
